Chapter 36
Raising my eyebrows, I glance at Theo who seems oblivious then my gaze returns to Regina to find her eyes looking like normal, which makes me feel slightly confused as I clearly remember the change in her eyes.
However, before I can try to figure what happened she marches towards the kids whom Piero is freeing from the cage after breaking the lock.
Regina walks past me while stepping over the corpse of the hunters looking completely unfazed and approach the frightened-looking kids the exact moment when they step out of the small cage.
Without even saying anything, she smiles at them in a reassuring and comforting way turning their attention away from the blood and bodies lying a foot away from them. Their tensed bodies relax a little, realizing they are no longer in danger.
“Have they hurt you?′ She cups one of the kid's face in her palm who seems to look more shaken up than the other one. Her voice filled with genuine concern.
“No.” The other one answers while shaking his head in no and raising his hands to allow Gary to break the chains around his wrists.
“Thank God.” Closing her eyes momentarily she releases a sigh of relief, then she turns to look at me and gives me a small smile.
“Sir.” Both the kids bow their heads when they notice me.
“Are you alright?” I ask them as I stand beside Regina whose eyes are trying to find any sign of physical injury on them.
“Yes, sir.” They both reply in unison, meanwhile I try to sense their beast.
Fortunately, their beast is still dormant but I can sense soon it will surface. But now they will be with their families in the safety of their home when they will find their beast.
“Have they told you the reason why they kidnapped you?” Regina asks softly as if they are fragile as glass and can break if not handled carefully. In a way, her concern is right, because at this moment their mental state must really fragile as they have experienced something which nothing less than a nightmare.
Even though I am aware of the answer but Regina is not completely aware of why some of the hunters try to capture as alive instead of killing us.
"We heard some of them talking about selling our blood once our beast matures and also doing some kind of experiment on us... like some lab rats." The kid who was scared earlier now seems to look a bit comfortable in Regina's presence.
As soon as these words were out, Regina's demaneaor slightly shifts. Even though her face is a perfect example of calm and composed but the storm of rage which is swirling behind her eyes is something which she can't hide from me.
There are two sides to her one is extremely caring and generous, and the other one is cold and deadly. And I love her both sides, as they makes her even more perfect for me.
"Do you know who captured you?" She asks calmly, but her anger has slightly seeped into her words.
"Elder Edgar." The boy replies which equally hatred and anger.
King snarls vibrate in my mind, as he wants to sink his teeth into that bastard's heart and tear it into pieces for hurting these innocent kids. But a hand on my chest calms him down slightly as Regina looks into my eyes.
"King," She address my beast, "It is not the right time, now." She shakes her head.
Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath feeling more in controlled, after I moment a nod my head letting her know we are okay.
"What's your name?" Turning her attention back to the boys she asks.
"I am Ramon." A boy who looks elder among the two, points at himself, then jerks her thumb towards the other, "He is Andy."
"Ramon and Andy, we are extremely glad to have you back and I assure you, your culprit will have to face the consequences of his actions." She smiles at them, "But for now, I would want you boys to go with Gary and freshen up and eat something as I know you must not have eaten anything. Don't worry you are safe now. and soon your families will be here to get you guys."
"Gary," she calls him and instantly he is in front of her. "Please take care of these boys and if possible ask someone to bring fresh clothes for them."
"I will send someone to grab new clothes for them." He nods his head, looking eager to fulfill his duty which she has handed him.
"Thank you," Andy whispers as his voice chokes slightly.
"There is no need for you to thank us, instead we should apologize to you." She places her hand on his shoulder, "We should have never let anything like this happen in the first place. But I promise from now nothing like this would ever repeat again." Her words laced with promise and determination.
Smiling gratefully at us, they leave with Gary.
She turns to me, as a wicked smile graces her lips which in return makes me smile.
"What's is going on in your mind?" I gently tap the side of her head while arching an eyebrow questioningly at her.
"Nothing." She shrugs nonchalantly.
"Atlas, have you ever done any experiment?" She asks while feigning an innocent expression.
"No, I haven't." I shake my head in no, then raise my eyebrows at her, "Why are you asking this?"
"I think you will look hot in a lab coat." She pouts trying to conceal her smile with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Where are you going?" I ask as she abruptly turns on her heels and starts walking, leaving me no choice but to follow her.
"Well, I am planning to do some experiments." She quietly laughs causing me to chuckle as well because I am already aware who will be her lab rat.
