Her King

Chapter 18

“Is it hurting?” Regina asks for the hundredth time as she gently cleans the cut on Theo’s face.

Even though we tried to make her understand that all this is not necessary it will heal on its own, in some time, but she refused to listen to anyone.

Theo’s amused gaze locks with mine, giving him a small smile I simply shrug. Because, if my Queen wants to do his first-aid then no one can stop her.

“Oh, God!” She blows lightly while wiping his wound with an alcohol swab as it might get infected if it is not cleaned properly. “It must be stinging, right?”

Theo shakes his head in no as he glances at her with no harshness in his gaze.

For the first time in years, I can sense he is somewhat at peace. The burden on his chest has been lifted off because he got a chance to let out his emotions which he was keeping inside him.

All this is because of Regina.

“It must be hurt-” A loud scream is heard even before Regina can finish her line.

“Sorry... sorry... sorry.” Regina quickly apologizes thinking Theo has screamed in pain, whereas Felix doubles over in laughter making me roll my eyes at him.

“Felix.” She turns to glare at Felix, as she realizes it was Felix who has fooled her, and hurls cushion towards him, “Idiot!”

“What if I have poked his eye?” She huffs as she finishes applying antiseptic cream and wipes her fingers with the tissue paper. “Duffer.”

Theo still hasn’t talked much to Regina, but then he hardly talks to anyone. However, I can see they have created a bond. His beast has already accepted her as a family, but now even Theo has accepted her. He looks more comfortable in her presence and I can’t miss the way a very faint smile appears on his face when she talks to him.

“Are you really not afraid of us?” Felix sits beside her on the bed, “After knowing who we are.” He rolls his upper lip inside his mouth and points at his teeth.

“Why do I need to be afraid? In fact, others should be afraid of me that I am friends with vampires.” She smugly replies.

“Family, not friend.” Theo quietly speaks, as our attention shifts to him, “You are our family. And it is true if there is anyone who needs to be afraid of us, is the one who tries to harm you.” His words held a promise.

“Thank you.” She gives him a quick hug.

“And me?” Felix gives her a puppy look.

“Come here.” She laughs as she hugs him while ruffling his hair making him groan in protest.

I can’t help but think the situation which I was thinking might not be the ideal for her to meet Theo, has turned out to be the best. Not only, Theo, but even his beast has also warmed up to her. He has accepted her as a family.

Snaking an arm around her, I kiss her temple silently thanking her for helping my brother, she turns her head to with a small smile.

“How did you handle everything so well?” I ask her looking at her in awe because a lot has happened today and if she would have run away from me then I would not have been surprised... I would have been broken but not surprised.

“I have just listened to my heart and let my emotions lead me, just like you have asked me to.” She softly smiles as her gaze holds so much affection.

“I don’t believe you.” Felix interrupts making me realize we are not alone because the truth is whenever she looks at me nothing else exists for me at that moment... only her.

“Why?” She frowns while slipping her hand into mine and keeps our joined hands in her lap.

“Otherwise, when you have seen Theo’s beast then you would have run in the opposite direction.” He shrugs.

“Even I want to know this, how did you manage to calm him down?” I ask her curiously.

“Firstly, stop talking about him or his beast like they are feral or savage,” she says defensively, “Everybody has a different temper, so does he. He is slightly a bit aggressive, but it is not something bad. He has an extremely protective nature, and also he is sensitive too. I can tell you among all three of you, he is the one who is better at reading a person’s feelings.”

“And for me, it was not difficult to interact with him because I have babysat most of my cousins’ children, and let me tell you, they are the incarnation of Satan.” She laughs, “So, he was nothing in front of them.”

“Are you comparing me with small kids?” Theo looks at her as she has grown two heads, as he points his finger towards his chest.

“Weren’t you throwing a tantrum like small kids?” She questions him back. “Behaving like some ‘terrible twos’.” She air quotes with a roll of her eyes.

His mouth agape in shock as he looks at her then at me, completely speechless.

A laugh escapes my lips, as only my Queen can call a beast behaving like a terrible two.

“Maybe sometimes, you should meet them then you will realize who are the real beasts.” She huffs a breath while shaking her head to herself as if remembering something her cousins' children have done.

“Okay, guys, I am hungry and I am ordering a pizza.” She stands up and takes out her phone from her hoodie pocket, “Tell me what you want to eat and drink?”

“Well, apart from the blood because I don’t have any food outlet’s number which delivers tasty warm blood.” She laughs while Theo, Felix, and I share a look shaking our head at her.

Okay, so this is how it is going to be from now. My life is going to be filled with blood-drinking jokes.

“What if the police come and questions about the bodies?” Felix asked as we sat in the living.

“My uncle will take care of them.” She nonchalantly replies and leans against my side while stretching her legs in front of her.

“How?” Felix looks confused.

“Marco Russo is her uncle,” I answer him which makes his eyes widen. This even gets Theo’s attention as he turns to looks at us from his place near the window.

Russo was a powerful mafia family. After the death of his father, Marco Russo took his position when he just turned eighteen. But, later he separated from himself the business. However, he is still known to be a very dangerous and ruthless person.

“No wonder, she is like this.” Felix lowly whistles as he glances at Regina.

I remember something her nonna has said about all this happening again.

“Regina, has something like this happened before?” I ask her as she snuggles more into my side, getting comfortable.

“When I was fourteen years old, somebody tried to kidnap me but they couldn’t succeed. However, that was their unlucky day. As half of my maternal family was inside our house celebrating nonna’s birthday.” Tilting her head she glances up at me with a smirk, “So, they were greeted by a very angry Russo family. Let’s just say none of them returned back to their home to tell what happened with them.”

“But why they were trying to kidnap you?” I ask while absentmindedly drawing lazy circles on her arm.

“I don’t know, something like my mom’s hand was promised to someone but my mom fell in love with my dad. So, my Nonno refused to marry my mom to that guy and married her to my dad. So, when I was born they wanted me instead as my Nonno broke his promise to marry my mom into their family...blah...blah... blah...” She shrugs and yawns her eyes getting droopy.

She slightly turns and rests her head on my chest closing her eyes.

After while Felix and Theo very quietly retreat to their rooms, careful not to wake Regina up, in which they are staying. While I carry her to my room and gently put her on the bed. Pulling her close to me, I kiss her hair feeling content to have her near me as I close my eyes, holding her securely against my chest.

Tonight, I will just relax and enjoy these peaceful moments then tomorrow we will think about what we have to do.
