Chapter 59
Adella Arcos - POV
It's been two weeks since I last met and spoke to Jose, and luckily he didn't dare call or text me, but the gifts never stopped. Every day, there was something new waiting for me at my doorstep, which only made my landlord angry because his nap time was disturbed every time he had to go and collect it.
I was walking downstairs when I saw my neighbor standing near the door. I was about to walk past him when he turned around to face me. “This has come for you,” he said and handed over the smaller parcel in his hand before he walked out of there.
“This is seriously getting out of hand,” I told my Wolf, but she didn't say anything. I put the gift inside my bag and made my way to the bus stop to go to work. “Good morning.” I greeted Elizabeth when I arrived at my seat.
“Good morning,” she said. After setting up everything around me, I took out the small gift box and opened it. This time, there was a beautiful diamond engagement ring. “Wow, who gave that to you?” Elizabeth asked me when she saw the ring in my hand.
“I don't know. But I don't think I want this.” I said and quickly packed it back in the box. I know that I will not be taking this back home, so what am I supposed to do with this?
“Arent you going to wear that?”
“No, I think I am going to sell this, and…”
“But that is a beautiful piece. Haven't you seen this on display when you were passing by?” Elizabeth asked me, flabbergasted, and I shook my head. “When I inquired about this piece, the salesgirl told me that the diamonds set in this piece are very rare to find.”
“I don't know who has given this to me, and I don't think I want this ring either,” I told her, but then, something struck my mind. “Wait, you can have this,” I said, and pushed the ring in her direction. A look of pure shock crossed her face, and she furiously shook her head and tried to push it back to me.
“I can't take this, Adella. This is worth a fortune.” Elizabeth exclamined but I shook my head and pushed it back to her.
“If you don't take this, I am just going to sell this and not take the money.”
“But it's…”
“Take it, Elizabeth. Moreover, this would look beautiful on you.” I persuaded and after a long time, she reluctantly accepted it.
“Do you want me to drop you home today?” Elizabeth asked me as she got ready to leave. I shook my head and looked outside to see that the sky was still bright.
“I will take the bus,” I said and waved at her before leaving. I walked to the bus stop and waited till a bus came when I got in. After finding a place to sit, I took out my phone and texted Jose.
Let's start afresh as friends. No lies this time, let's get to know each other, and then I will tell you my decision.- Adella.
The moment I sent the message, Jose read that and began typing.
Thank you so much for giving me a second chance, Adella. Since tomorrow is a Saturday, do you want to do anything?- Jose.
Sure, I will meet you at the cafe we met last time, and then we will see what we can do for tomorrow.- Adella.
Done.- Jose.
When I reached home, I prepared something light for dinner before I went to bed while anticipating how tomorrow would go. I woke up extra early today, and after taking a shower, I wore a pair of blue denim and a crop top and walked to the mirror to comb my hair. I did a high ponytail today and just stared at myself. The mark that beta Lanzo left on my neck has faded and now there was only a scar in that place.
Thinking about that day sends a cold shiver down my spine. I knew that incident would haunt me for the rest of my life. I looked at my watch to see that I was getting late, so after locking my apartment door, I walked out of there. The first thing I did was to go and check my mailbox, and surprisingly, there were no gifts today.
Of course, there wouldn't be one since I am going to meet him today.
I shook my head before I walked out of the apartment building. I arrived at the cafe in under thirty minutes, and I walked inside to see Jose sitting near the window. He quickly got up from his place when he saw me and extended a bouquet of flowers in my direction. “I was just wondering where the gift was today,” I said sarcastically, which made him frown.
“What are you talking about?” he asked me, and I was clearly able to see the confused look on his face.
Wait, wasn't he the person who was sending me all the gifts?
“No…nothing. Anyway, did you order the food?” I asked him to change the subject and simultaneously accept the bouquet.
“Yes, I ordered their breakfast special. Uh, you don't mind, right?” Jose asked me, sounding nervous, but I waved my hand and then took a seat. We didn't talk much apart from asking about how our week went, and then, the food arrived.
We ate our food in silence and after paying the bill, both of us walked out of there. “Where are we going?” I asked him as we walked towards his car.
“I thought you had something in your mind?” Jose asked me, and I shuddered my shoulder.
“This is your chance to prove yourself, not mine,” I told him before I walked to the passenger seat and took a seat. Jose stood outside for a while before he got into the car and then drove off.
