Chapter 58
Adella Arcos - POV
“I can not decide immediately, Jose. This is about the life we are talking about, and now that I have heard your end of the story, this will hopefully help me make a better decision.” I said and got up from my place. “I will see you later,” I said before I walked out of that restaurant, but from my peripheral vision, I saw the waiter bringing in our food.
When I reached home, I walked inside and went to my room to relax. It was a lot to take in today, but I was glad at least I heard him out. Even though I am still angry at him, my anger has slightly reduced. I was happy that he had realized his mistake, and he wanted to genuinely apologize for that.
I stayed in my room for about an hour before I got up and began doing the laundry and other work because tomorrow I will have to go back to work, and it would be hard for to me finish all this.
Ping.
I opened the message to see that it was from Elizabeth. She had sent me a lot of sad-looking emojis, and there was a text at the end.
Missing your jovial presence today- Elizabeth.
A soft smile appeared on my face, and I quickly began typing a reply.
Me too, but I will meet you tomorrow.- Adella.
I kept my phone aside and began preparing lunch. I was in the midst of roasting the chicken when I heard the doorbell. After washing my hands, I walked to the door and opened it to see that it was my neighbor. “Hello.” I greeted him, and in return, he only nodded at me.
“I was walking into the building when the delivery boy gave me this and told me to give this to you,” he said and passed a small box, and I took it from him.
“Thank you so much. And I am so sorry for the trouble.” I told him in my sincerest voice, and he nodded his head before he started walking towards his house. I closed the door behind me, made my way to the coffee table, and started unwrapping the box.
When I opened the lid, I was shocked to see a Tiffany and Co. jewelry box. I picked it out and opened it to see a beautiful Bellflower-shaped pendant inside, which was encrusted with tiny pink and white diamonds. It was truly a stunning piece, but this only made me angry.
If Jose thinks he can manipulate my decision with all these expensive gifts, then he is damn wrong. I placed the pendant back in its box and kept it inside my cupboard to return it to him when I next saw him.
Once I was done with all my work, I grabbed my bag and walked out of the apartment building. It was four in the evening, and the town was getting crowded with people who were all rushing back home from work. Among all this sea of people, I managed to finally reach my destination. I walked into the air-conditioned building and made my way to the reception. “Hello, ma'am. How can I help you today?” the receptionist asked me.
“I would like to join the self-defense class here,” I told her, and she nodded her head and began explaining all the different packages that they have. After checking the suitable package for me, I made the first payment and walked out of there.
Even though it was mandatory for every werewolf back at my old pack to join the warrior training class, that only taught us the basics, and it only made me realize that it would not be enough for me to protect myself from wolves stronger than me.
“We will have our mate to protect us,” Rachel said, but I shook my head.
“I have been in one too many situations that taught me that I will have to learn to protect myself first and not to wait for someone else to come and save me,” I said, and Rachel nodded her head.
“You are right,” she said before she became quiet again.
Gamma Jose Gomez - POV
I watched her walk out of that restaurant with a look of confidence on her face, and strangely, I liked it. “Sir, your food.” the waiter served the food and left, but my appetite was long gone. After talking to Adella and explaining myself, I felt that tiny bit of hope spark within me. Even though she didn't directly tell me that she would accept me, that small smile on her face spoke volumes.
I got up from my place and placed a generous amount of cash before I walked out of there. I looked in both directions, but I couldn't find Adella anywhere. “She must have left.” Carlos sighed.
“We can go and see if she has gone to her apartment,” I said and then walked to my car. When I arrived close to her apartment, I parked the car and got down. The street was busy, so it was easy for me to blend in with the crowd.
I walked to the back of the buildings till I was able to have a clear view of her living room balcony. She was busy cleaning her apartment while I hid behind a tree and watched her like a creep. I didn't know how time flew by when, at one point, I heard her doorbell ring, and a couple of minutes later, she walked back to the living room with a gift box in her hand.
Summer might have sent her something.
I thought and looked around my surroundings before I climbed the tree to get a better view of what it might be. Adella didn't take a long time to open the box, and when she did, I was shocked to see such an expensive gift inside.
She slightly turned, which made me able to see her facial expression. She looked beyond confused, but that soon turned into anger. She placed the pendant back in the box and marched towards her bedroom.
