Chapter 40
Adella Arcos - POV
Just like Summer promised, her entire demeanor changed after walking out of that hotel room. We went to a lot of places and did a lot of window shopping, and by the time we came back to our hotel room, it was one p.m., so after having our lunch, we checked out from our hotel and began our journey back home. “Where are you going?” Summer asked me when I was walking towards the driving seat.
“I will drive this time. You just sit and relax.” I said, and this made her raise an eyebrow at me.
“Are you sure? You know I can s...”
“You must be exhausted, Summer. Moreover, it is not good for your health or the baby. So you sit in the passenger seat, and I will drive.” I insisted, and she finally agreed. After loading all our bags in the car, we drove off from that beautiful town. By the time we reached the pack, it was six p.m. since I didn't drive as fast as Summer used to.
“Let's go to your home first, Adella.” Summer said, and I nodded my head. When we reached it, I got down from the car, and unloaded my bags and the few things that I bought.
“I will see you tomorrow?” I asked Summer, and she nodded her head and pulled me into a hug.
“Take care,” she said before she walked to the driver's seat and left my place. I stayed on my front porch and waited till her car disappeared from the corner before I walked into my house. After arranging everything in its place and doing my laundry, I walked into my room and sat down in front of my laptop to complete my pending work.
Summer Quinn - POV
After dropping Adella back at her place, I sped straight to my house. When I arrived, I realized that Vince's car was in the driveway.
Didn't he go to work today?
I locked my car, and when I walked into the house, I looked in the living room to see that he was not there. “Vince?”
“I am in our room.” I heard him call out. I walked upstairs and saw him sitting in front of his laptop.
“What happened to you?” I asked him, starting to panic, when I saw his arm wrapped in a bandage and supported in a sling.
“Nothing, I got hurt while training. But the doctor said that it would get back to normal within a few hours,” he said, but I still couldn't see him hurt like this.
“When did this happen?” I asked him. He had a conflicting look on his face, but when he saw me getting angry, he let out a sigh, got up from his place, and walked towards me.
“This happened yesterday w…”
“Why didn't you tell me then?” I asked him, starting to get angry, I was never a person to get angry at trivial things like this before, but from the beginning of this pregnancy, I have had one too many mood swings. I get angry easily and hold a grudge for even the silliest of things.
“I didn't want to spoil your girls’s trip, darling,” he spoke with uttermost patience before he placed his hands on either side of my shoulder and looked me in the eye. “But I'm feeling much better right now. So, please calm down?” he asked me, and we stood in silence for a couple of more minutes when I finally let it go, wrapped my arms around my mate, and pulled him close to me.
“I am sorry. I…”
“Shh, you don't have to apologize for anything, Summer. I know how much you have sacrificed for me and our child, and I will be ever grateful for that,” he mumbled into my ears before he pulled back and looked me in the eye. “I love you more than you can ever imagine, and we should never have this gratitude exchange between us. Got it?” he asked me, and I nodded my head.
I have been thanking the moon goddess every day for giving me a mate like this, and I have also prayed that Adella would also get the same life as mine, but whenever I think of Adella, the horrendous photo frames come to my mind.
“Are you okay, Summer?” my mate asked me with a frown on his face, and I nodded my head. “You feel tensed, is there something wrong?” Vince asked me, and I nodded my head. I have never hidden anything from Vince before, and he has never hidden anything from me either.
“Let's take a seat, and then I will tell you what is going on,” I said, and he nodded his head and sat down on our bed. I began telling him how our girl’s trip started, and how happy both of us were till that photo frame spoiled everything.
“How dare that bastard do this to Adella!” Vince yelled before he angrily got up from his place, ready to go and kill Jose, but I held his arm. Ever since we met, Vince has formed a very good relationship with Adella, and they have come to the point where he has begun considering her as his own sister.
“Calm down, Vince,” I said, trying to pull him back to sit down next to me, but he didn't budge even an inch.
“How can I calm down, Summer? You and I both know how much Adella has gone through and how many nights she has come to our place crying that she couldn't take it anymore.” he began to tell. “She will be broken into millions of pieces if she gets to know this, Summer.”
“I know, that is why I didn't tell her anything yet.”
“But I think she has a right to know. Because the longer we let this relationship grow, it will be harder for her to forget Jose when he crushes her heart.” Vince said, and I nodded my head.
