Chapter 38
Adella Arcos - POV
I woke up to the sound of the birds singing outside our balcony, and I looked to my right to see that Summer was still sound asleep. I didn't disturb her sleep, instead, I slowly got down from the bed, pulled the blanket over her body, and walked outside. The sun had just started to rise over the horizon, and seeing all the vibrant colors of orange, yellow, purple, and pink filled my heart with an unknown calmness.
I looked down to see that people had started coming out of their homes or hotel rooms and gradually crowding the busy streets. There were a lot of florist stalls at the side of the road with their metal buckets of freshly picked flowers. The smell of baked goodies from the nearby bakery tickled my nostrils and ignited a hunger that just made my mouth salivate.
“Good morning!” I turned and saw Summer gropingly walking onto the balcony, she still had a sleepy look on her face.
“Good morning, did I wake you up?” I asked her, and she shook her head.
“No, but the smell of food did,” she said, and a smile appeared on my face.
“Shall we go and have breakfast then?” I asked her, and she nodded her head.
“Let's first get dressed up before walking out to the streets,” she said and walked into the room. I stayed outside till I heard her come out of the bathroom, when I went back in I took a shower, changed into a pale lavender dress, and did my hair in a ponytail.
“Let's go,” I said, and then we locked our room and walked out of there. Since the restaurant that Summer said was a long walk up, we decided to take the car there. When we arrived, I realized the restaurant was already teeming with people.
“Looks like we are not the only ones who decided to grab our breakfast here.” Summer said while she got out of the car, and I did the same. The restaurant was built in an entirely open structure made out of glass and wood, which made it possible to see the beautiful view of the mountain on the other side. When we walked inside, a friendly guy at the counter greeted us and guided us outside to a table.
“I hope this is okay. We are so sorry that the tables inside are full.” he apologized for the fifth time, but we waved him off.
“It's great to have a view of the mountains while we eat.” Summer said, and only then did the man relax, and he gave us the menu card.
“I will have your breakfast special and a cup of cappuccino,” I ordered, and Sumemr ordered the same.
“I will come back with your food in ten minutes,” he said before he walked back into the restaurant. I turned my attention back to the mountain view in front of me.
“Summer, look behind you,” I said when I saw a man go down on his knee in front of the love of his life. A small crowd started gathering around them while everyone remained silent, listening to what he was saying, I saw a waiter take a picture of the happy couple. Seeing that, a small desire formed within me. How nice it would be if Jose could propose to me like this in this very place.
“Aren't they cute?” Summer cooed, and I nodded my head.
“Why wasn't Vince as romantic as him?” Summer whined, which made me raise an eyebrow at her.
“You do remember what happened during your drunken proposal, right?” I asked her with a smile on my face, which made her throw her tissue paper at me. Vince organized a huge party at the human town an hour’s drive from our pack, and when the time got near to propose, that was when we all realized that Summer had one or too many to drink, and she wasn't even able to stand properly, which made that entire proposal setup a disaster, but he did propose to her later in the weekend trip that they went a few days later.
“Don't even remind me of that.” Summer warned, but in the end, we both ended up laughing. Soon, our food came, and we started eating it in silence. While we were eating, the waiter came towards our table with two slices of chocolate cake and placed it on our table.
“I am sorry, I don't think we ordered this.” Summer said.
“You didn't order this, ma'am. But it is our restaurant’s tradition that when there is a successful proposal in our restaurant, we give out free cake to everyone there,” he said, and we nodded our heads. Once he walked away, Summer looked at me with a huge grin on her face.
“Well, how can we say no to free dessert, right?” she asked me, and I nodded my head.
Summer Quinn - POV
It has been ages since I had breakfast with my best friend, and I enjoyed it a lot. We talked about our childhood and my future baby. After finishing my food, I leaned back on my chair and looked out at the view. “Do you want more coffee?” Adella asked me when the waiter served her a second cup, but I declined and got up from my place.
“I am done, I will go to the washroom and come,” I said, and she nodded her head. I asked for directions to the washroom from the waiter. And walked into the restaurant. When I walked into a hallway, where there were private rooms, my eyes glanced at the various pictures on the wall. It was of all the couples who had proposed to their other half in this place.
My feet came to a screeching halt in front of an awfully familiar picture. I looked at it twice, thrice, to make sure that my eyes were not playing any tricks on me, but I guess it was true. When a waitress was walking past me, I stopped her. “When did this couple come here?” I asked her, pointing at the frame.
“I think it was last month. But I must say that it was one of the cutest proposals I have ever seen.” the waitress said before she walked away.
