Chapter 37
Adella Arcos - POV
“Aren’t we supposed to stop there?” I asked Summer when she went past yet another available parking slot.
“We are going to a town that is about a three to four hours drive from here, Ella.” Summer said with a nonchalant look on her face, and this made my eyes widen in surprise.
“Do you think we will have enough time to shop and then come back home?” I asked her with a skeptical look on my face that was when a sheepish smile formed on her face.
“You know that is not possible, right?” she asked me when she briefly glanced my way before she looked back at the road again. “I think you must have understood by now why I asked you to pick an overnight bag.”
“Summer! You know we have to go to school tomorrow. Moreover, I didn't plan out a substitute teacher to take my classes either.” I told her, getting slightly angry that she hid this fact from me.
“Calm down, Ella. I have informed our coordinator. Moreover, it has been ages since we went out on a trip, just the two of us, so I thought of going out today.” she said, and even though I wanted to argue with her, I stayed quiet. I know she was right, Summer always asked me to go out on a trip with her, but I declined because back then, I was busy concentrating on my studies and rising in my rank.
“Wow, are you all right, Ella?” Summer asked me after a while, breaking my train of thought.
“Why are you asking that?”
“I thought you would protest and yell at me for lying to you,” she said, and I shook my head and rested my head on my seat.
“You are right, Summer. It's been a long time since we went out together, and I guess we should give ourselves some free time too.” I said, and a huge smile stretched on her face. For the rest of the car ride, we listened to all our favorite songs and just drove in silence. Just like Summer said, it took us slightly more than four hours to reach the town, but that was because we had to stop twice since Summer didn't feel that good.
“Isn't this just beautiful?” She asked me when we were entering the town. And I looked outside my window. This town was comparatively smaller than everything that I had seen, but there was something in this town that just tickled the excitement inside me. The Infrastructure of the place was entirely made out of brown rocks and wood.
“The lights just give this a whole new look,” I said awestruck. The majority of the houses here used fairy lights to light up the lights outside of their houses, and there were a lot of plants in every house that we passed, giving this town a vibrant color.
“Exactly! That was why I liked this town when I saw the pictures on Instagram.” Summer said while the car slowly rolled down the pebbled streets, which were partially crowded. Summer soon parked the car on the side and got down, and I followed her.
“Did you book a hotel room?” I asked her, and she nodded her head while she gave me my bag, she took hers while she closed the boot, and we started walking down the street. I was still mystified by the beauty of this town when we reached a small house that was constructed in brown rocks and the walls were covered with blood-creeper red flowers. When we entered, Summer guided us toward the reception, and after completing all the check-in procedures, we were guided to our room.
“Call us if you need anything.” the woman said with a pleasant smile on her face, and we nodded our heads before we entered the room. The walls of the room were made entirely with rocks, while the flooring was wood. There was a huge king-sized bed in the center and a balcony to the side, which was facing the mountains outside.
“How come we never came across this town years ago?” I asked, and Summer shuddered on her shoulder while we both walked outside. The cold wind blew passed us, making me lightly shiver, but I didn't care. The mountain view outside is just magnificent.
“I heard that there is a restaurant at one of the top of the mountains, which has a few of the most magical views. We should go and check it out tomorrow.” Summer said, and I nodded my head, but my mind was concentrated on the mountains. A serene feeling washed over me, and a smile appeared on my face.
Summer Quinn - POV
My heart swelled in bliss when I saw a calm demeanor wash over Adella. She has gone through a lot since Jose came to our pack, and even though she trusted him, I still don't, and until he marks her, I will not believe him.
For the past few days, I saw how Adella was slowly withdrawing from me again, like how she did a few years ago when the bullying and taunts reached their peaks, even though she was not suicidal, I know that she had that thought at the back of her mind. And I don't want my best friend to be pushed back into that hole because of a scumbag again.
I have known Adella for almost my entire life, and I will never let anyone snatch away her happiness because she has worked so hard for it, and she deserves it too. “Are we still going shopping?” Adella asked me, and for a moment I was confused as to what she was asking me when I remembered the lie I told her.
“Oh yes, shall we go?” I asked her, and she nodded her head. Adella wanted to walk in the streets and explore, and even though my back and feet were killing me, I nodded, and we started roaming the streets. We went to a few boutiques and bought some clothes, and I also bought a dress for my baby shower party. By the time we came back to our room, it was well past midnight.
