‘I can’t be here?’ she asked when she realized I wasn’t going to elaborate further. ‘What am I doing wrong Dosch?’ There was a hint of desperation in her voice, which a small part of me felt sorry for. Probably the part that was the mating bond, the part of our souls that were one.

I made Mourad, Marcus and the waiter leave after he had just put down the strawberries.

‘Sit, Carina.’

‘I’d rather not.’ She chipped and she crossed her arms. Her cleavage was pushed out more, as was that wicked bottom lip.

‘Sit.’ I was not joking. She noticed my tone and sat down on the couch next to me, at the farthest seat she could find. We stared at each other for a few long seconds. Both of us angry. Mine was only half played.

I handed her the flute of champagne. She took it but didn’t speak and didn’t drink from it either.

‘You can’t gamble tonight.’ I said.

‘Why the fuck can’t I?’

‘It’s a special… night.’ She didn’t need to know all the gritty details.

‘What is going on tonight?’

‘Nothing you need to worry your pretty head about.’

She put the glass down hard and rose. ‘Than I’m fucking going. Stop bullshitting me.’

She walked to the door but Marcus and Mourad had locked it and were now guarding it from the other side.

‘Let me out of here, Dosch.’ She turned around and made a desperate motion with her two arms.

‘Sit back down Carina. Don’t be so dramatic.’

‘Than fucking tell me what this is about!’ she screamed. ‘You are scaring me!’

I flinched. By the look on her face she was indeed worried. It made my heart clench.

I walked to her, grabbed both her cheeks and pecked her nose. ‘Don’t be worried. I would never have anything happen to you.’ I sighed and pecked her lips. ‘You know that right, Carina?’ she smelled so good this close to me and it took all my self control to not full on kiss her.

She nodded and placed her hands on my chest. She stepped closer, huddled close to me and walked straight into a hug. She felt so perfect in my arms, like it was a second home. My home. My everything.

We stayed like that for a few seconds. Just breathing each other in. Her scent my favorite in the world.
