Fire On Fire

Chapter Chapter Fifteen - Hunger

I swung my legs as I sat propped on the counter-top while Ace cooked something that smelt delicious on the stove. (Yes they have stoves)

It had been a few hours since the whole emotional roller coaster, but things seemed good, better.

Ace was busy making one of his 'signature' dishes while he also answered some of my most burning questions about demons.

"Sooo...no horns ?" I asked.

He tsked and gave me a disappointed look.

"No Ava, no horns" Dang it, now I'm embarrassed. Hey if he'd seen the conjuring I think he'd be disappointed too!

"Hmmm... fangs ??" I questioned trying to hide my blush.

Ace smirked, revealing two pointy fangs sticking out from his upper lip. I gasped and peered closer, leaning in.

"You kidding me...how'd I miss THAT!" I said leaning further over the counter.

"Well it's just like the wings, optional" he finished, plating the food. I let out the infamous;

"Ohhhhhh"

"Come on" he said helping me hop off the counter. I got down but then quickly realized that I was trapped between the counter and him.

Ace leaned in, placing his strong arms on either side of the counter. I looked up at him and couldn't hide the surprise on my face.

He still had his fangs out and he leaned in to nibble on my ear. I breathed in sharply.

Softly, he whispered into my ear

"Any more questions... Ava..." He pronounced my name so sexily.

"Well..." I whispered back

Then everything stopped and a real serious question dawned on me.

He had a son...Was he married...? I mean of course I didn't mind that he was married BEFORE but that just shone a whole new perspective of him. He had a life before this.

Of course he did idiot.

"Ava"

Ace's deep voice interrupted my spiraling thoughts.

"Huh?"

He stared into my eyes intensely.

"Uh...right yeah...sorry it's just a little crazy sometimes y'know, the whole 'other world' thing...can get weird" I blurted out averting my eyes. I could still feel his eyes on me.

"That's why I told you to ask me anything" He stated while he steered me towards the dining table. He pulled my chair and had me seated before he sat. Oh what a gentleman.

I didn't even know what I was eating but I tasted a hint of blueberries ? I didn't pay attention while he was cooking.

I ravenously dug in and I didn't care about 'Manners' Fuck that. I was starving.

After about five minutes, I realized that the only thing that could be heard was the sound of my terrible chewing. Ace smirked and leaned back into his chair, taking in the view.

"Is that how you treat everything that goes into your mouth, Ava?" he asked, rather casually. I nearly choked, cheeks burning. I TAKE IT BACK, NOT A GENTLEMAN AT ALL.

"Depends. Sometimes I just like throwing the whole thing in the blender, Y'know? and downing it." I shot back. Ace chuckled and I smirked and for a moment, things seemed good. Well until my brain brought up his son again.

"So, you're a king huh?" I asked, the sentence sounded foreign in my mouth.

The moment I asked the question though, I regretted it. Ace's face twisted, and I felt a thick barrier slide into place.

His eyes were a little shocked for a very brief moment, as if he had just realized how he had let loose.

Then faster than ever, the look disappeared. Like it were never there.

His eyes were no longer easy to read. His playful mood vanished and all that was left was a stoic shell.

"WAS" Ace emphasized.

"What's going to happen to me ? Will I get to go home?" I asked remembering my home at that moment. My REAL home.

Ace's expression soured and he grunted.

"I don't know. They're going to be on high alert after what happened. There's no way to get there without being noticed" he stated, while downing a cup of water. He sure does love his H2O.

"So what ? What you're saying is I'm not going home?"

"I didn't say that"

"So you can get me home?"

"I didn't say THAT either" Ace shot back. Why is being so grumpy all of a sudden?

"Look, I've got things to do, you choose, you wanna stay here until things die down ? or do you wanna go into that castle and probably never come back out alive again?" he asked coldly.

A shiver ran down my spine when he mentioned that I might not come out alive.

"Either way, I have things to do elsewhere." He said as he got up and pulled on his boots and armor.

Well I mean...I'm still new to this place, and it might be a while before those creeps stop creeping around for me.

I still haven't found out what that lady and her minion wanted me for. Whatever it was, it was probably not good. I've seen those cult movies. Not good.

Ace is the only person I know. He's the only person who tried to help so...I should probably follow him.

With my mind made up I stood up from my chair too.

"Alright then where are we headed?"

For a second, Ace just stared at me, halfway done buckling up his last piece of armor.

He started chuckling.

"Oh no, YOU'RE not coming with" He said dryly.
