Finding Lilibeth

Chapter 17

Darren went to tell all his other sons that they had found Lilibeth. Dj headed towards the small girl, he wanted to see his sister. His father couldn't even show him a photo of the girl when he came to visit and that had made him come home sooner. Dj didn't feel right about his fathers behaviour and had come home earlier to check Lilibeth was ok. He was glad he came home early now seeing how his family treated his sister.

Dj picked up the girl frowning at how small she was for an 8 year old. Lilibeth stirred, she felt someone picking her up and she got scared. She was suppose to hear someone coming in but only woke when they had picked her up. She stiffened her body and opened her eyes to see who had picked her up.

Lilibeth began to freak out, she had no idea who was holding her. Lilibeth thought that this might be the person who had brought her. Dj smiled down at his sister and noticed the tears accumulating in her eyes. Dj frowned at the sight of his baby sister with tears in her eyes. Darren walked in with the rest of his sons and saw Lilibeth in Dj's arms with tears in her eyes. "Dj put her down she is scared" Darren told his eldest son. "I won't hurt you Lilibeth" Dj told his sister as he made his way to her bed.

Dj carefully put Lilibeth down on her bed and she immediately scooted back so her back was against the wall behind the head of her bed. Dj was smiling at his sister who was silently crying watching Dj. "Hey Lilibeth I'm Dj your oldest brother. I'm so happy to finally meet you" Dj smiled. Lilibeth kept watching the new man in her room not sure if he was going to hurt her like the rest of them did. "Lilibeth, why were you sleeping in the wardrobe?" Darren questioned his daughter but she didn't answer at all. She continued to look at Dj.

Darren walked closer to the bed causing Lilibeth to make herself smaller which didn't go unnoticed by Dj. The rest of the boys were also in the room by now watching what was going on. Lilibeth saw them and was starting to panic. Why was everyone in here room? Were they going to hurt her? Were they there to get her ready for the person they sold her too? Lilibeth was silent though, she didn't make a sound at all.

Dj noticed the change in Lilibeth's breathing and how her eyes got big when she noticed everyone in the room. "Get out all of you" Dj stated seeing the distress of his sister. "Dj she is my daughter and this is my house" Darren stated getting annoyed. "Get out dad she is panicking with everyone here" Dj told his father firmly not taking his eyes off his sister who was watching this new person sticking up for her.

Lilibeth was struggling to get air into her lungs but still she made no sound and she didn't move at all. She kept her eyes on the person she knew now as Dj with her eyes pleading for help. Darren stared at his daughter seeing the tears in her eyes and finally saw her struggling. He went to reach for his daughter only to be stopped by Dj "you are the cause of this along with them, get out now" Dj stated not once tasking his eyes off his sister. Darren and his sons reluctantly left the room standing outside the door of Lilibeth's room.

Dj sat down on Lilibeth's bed and pulled the girl into his chest resting her head over his heart. "Listen to my heartbeat sweetheart. Take a big breath in for me and count to 10 then breath out. Come on sweetheart breath for me. You are ok, I won't let them hurt you again" Dj told his sister. Dj gently rubbed Lilibeth's back while getting her to breath trying to help get her out of her panic attack. He was so gentle with Lilibeth that it brought more tears to her eyes. No one in this house had shown any care for Lilibeth at all.

Lilibeth couldn't help but start to cry when her panic attack subsided. She didn't make a noise but her whole body shook with violent sobs. Dj was concerned and pulled Lilibeth away from his body to look at his sister. She wasn't making any noise but was clearly sobbing. "Talk to me Lilibeth. I want to help you please" Dj pleaded with his sister. He could see how she was hurting and didn't know what to do. Dj never wanted to see his sister so broken especially at the age of 8. When he learned he had a baby sister he swore he would protect her at all costs and he felt like crap as he had failed to protect her from her own family.

For 10 minutes Dj held Lilibeth as she cried. He whispered sweet words to her and assured her she was safe with him. Finally Lilibeth was calm enough to speak, "they sold me. Are you my owner?" Lilibeth whispered. If this Dj had brought her she just hoped that he was this nice to her all the time because no one in her life had been.

"Lilibeth, Lex lied to you. No one sold you at all. Dad is an idiot and so are the rest of them. You deserve so much better sweetheart. How about we go down to get something to eat and then we can talk?" Dj asked her. Dj was angry that his family had made her believe that she had been sold. "I'm not allowed out of the room. Miss Emma brings me food and she then talks to me while I get changed so she can wash my clothes for the next day" Lilibeth replied. "Where are all your clothes Lilibeth?" Dj asked. "In the bag, the nurse gave them to me. I don't have anything from my old home" Lilibeth replied looking down at the bed. She was ashamed that she owned nothing anymore.

Dj frowned, it seemed his father and brothers left a few things out. "Lilibeth would you like to get anything from your old place?" Dj asked his sister. "It's ok" Lilibeth replied softly looking at the bed, she didn't want to bother anyone and didn't know who she would ask. "I can check if I can take if you like?" Dj questioned, "I'm sure you would like some of your old things here" he continued. "I'm not staying long anyway" Lilibeth stated shrugging her shoulders. "Lilibeth listen to me. You have not been sold ok. Lex was drinking and said some stupid things. Let's go get something to eat" Dj said speaking firmly to the girl.

Darren and the boys had finally heard Lilibeth speaking even though it was very quiet. Her voice matched how she looked innocent, but it was also full of sadness and also there was no fight in it. It sounded like Lilibeth had accepted the fact that she was sold like it was a normal part of life. This tugged at all of there hearts. No eight year old she sound resigned to living a miserable life. Lex had his head down listening to his baby sister sound defeated before he stormed into Lilibeth's room.
