Finding Lilibeth

Chapter 18

Lilibeth jumped when her door was thrown open. She was scared of what was going to happen which increased when she saw Lex march into her room. She physically curled into herself making her body smaller then she already was and just wanted to disappear.

Lex looked at his sister and how she tried to disappear while Dj glared at Lex. He wanted to hear Lilibeth talk and he had her talking which is apparently more then her father and brothers had achieved in the time she was in there care. Lex marched over to the bed causing Lilibeth to start shaking and drop her gaze to the floor beside the bed turning her body away from where Lex was. "Lex what the hell are you doing?" Dj asked.

Lex moved around to the side of the bed Lilibeth was sitting on and dropped to his knees in front of his sister. Lilibeth didn't move, she didn't want to anger Lex anymore then he already was. "Lilibeth, I am so sorry for what I said. I'm sorry for pushing you and hurting you. I am an idiot and hate myself" Lex said to his sister. Lilibeth didn't move beside the involuntary shaking her body was doing. She was just waiting for the hit to come so then she could curl up in a ball until he stopped. "Lilibeth I was drinking and didn't mean what I said or did. Please don't hate me, I hate myself for making you scared of us" Lex whispered out reaching for Lilibeth's hand making her recoil backwards.

Lex was frozen when he realised that Lilibeth was shaking and recoiled back from his touch. A sister should never be scared of her brother at all. "I will make it up to you Lilibeth, I promise" Lex whispered with tears running down his face. How could he be so stupid, to hurt his own flesh and blood? He knew he became aggressive when he was drinking and smoking, but to put his hands on his sister was something he would never forgive himself for.

Lex sat resting his back against the bed with his hands in his head. He didn't know what to do to make Lilibeth believe him at all. "Lilibeth you know alcohol can make you say and do things you wouldn't normally do" Dj stated seeing both his siblings distress at the situation. Lilibeth nodded her head. "Mum would drink and use white powder then hurt me if I wasn't hidden properly" Lilibeth whispered not knowing that Lex was still in her room as she was still gazing at the floor.

Lex swung around quickly facing Lilibeth, he was just like the woman who put her into hospital in Lilibeth's eyes. "Your mum used drugs?" Lex asked quiet loudly alarming Lilibeth who's eyes went big again. "Lex that's enough, calm down or leave" Dj told him firmly. "Lilibeth, I swear I'm not like your mum" Lex rushed out. Lilibeth had heard it all before, each time she was beaten by her mum she got the same apology and the cycle repeated itself over and over again. Lilibeth didn't bother saying anything else but her shoulders deflated. Lilibeth realised she would have to live her life looking for signs again that they were using or drinking so she could hide.

"Your mum use to apologise and promise not to do it again right? Then she would do it again days later?" Dj questioned after studying Lilibeth's reaction to Lex's words. Lilibeth gave a small nod not wanting to say anything anymore. Darren and his other sons had been listening standing at the door. Zac had also been studying Lilibeth and picked up on the body language Dj had seen in Lilibeth. He realise if you watched her closely and even looked at her eyes, the girl was easy to read. That was the way most of her communication was done rather then with words. How had he not seen it before?

It was quiet for a few minutes as the words Dj spoke sunk in with everyone. Dj had made the choice to not go back overseas to finish studying. He would transfer back and stay with his sister as he could see she needed someone on her side. She clearly didn't trust anyone in this house besides Miss Emma but he knew she quit. "Come on Lilibeth, you need to eat something" Dj spoke up causing Lilibeth to quickly shake her head no. She knew she wasn't allowed downstairs, her brothers had drilled that into her head. "Lilibeth this is your home too and you can go anywhere you want" Dj stated when they girl looked scared to move from her bed.

"Lilibeth you can leave your room. We shouldn't of told you that you weren't allowed" Zac stated from her bedroom door. Dj glared at Zac and the other boys for scaring Lilibeth and not allowing her out of the room. What child could survive locked in a room? Little girls should be able to go and play and have fun not be stuck in a room with 4 walls and a door. "Miss Emma brings me food" Lilibeth answered, she didn't want to go to the dining room with everyone glaring at her. She wanted to stay in her room, well stay somewhere safe and if they left her alone she could find another hiding spot.

Dj and Zac both continued to study Lilibeth for her reaction knowing her body and her eyes would give away how she was feeling. "How about I make you my famous banana smoothie?" Dj asked. Lilibeth looked towards Dj not sure what a banana smoothie was. Dj smiled at how cute his baby sister was when she looked confused about something. "You don't know what that is? We have to change that now let's go before I change my mind. Its like a milkshake" Dj chuckled out putting his hand out for Lilibeth to take.

Lilibeth flinched back when she saw Dj's hand come towards her thinking she was going to be hit. Lilibeth looked at the hand then up a Dj who looked sad but didn't move and kept a small smile on his face. Lilibeth slowly moved her hand towards Dj's hand not taking her eyes off him incase the look on his face changed but it didn't and when her hand touched his she felt safe. Dj slowly stood up so Lilibeth knew what he was doing and nodded towards the door moving slowly so Lilibeth could keep up and headed towards the kitchen to make smoothies for himself and Lilibeth.
