Fifteen with An Attitude

Chapter 16 Don’t Mess with Her!

Damon pulled up the car on the driveway. He and Elena got out from the car and unlocked the front door. "Becca?" Elena called.

Becca peeked out her head from the living room. "I'm in here, Mom," she said. Elena walked up to her and gave her a hug and pecked a kiss on her forehead. Damon did the same. "How was the trip?" Becca asked.

"It was long and exhausting. We miss you, sweetie," Damon said and went inside the living room.

"Did you behave yourself?" Damon asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Of course, Dad. Why wouldn't I?" Becca said, smiling so sweetly at him.

"Is that alcohol I smell?" Elena said after sitting down on the couch. Damon headed to where Elena was and he furrowed his eyebrows.

"I smell alcohol and cleaning supplies," Damon said.

"Becca?" he looked up at Becca, shooting her a suspicious look. He raised his eyebrows, waiting for some kind of explanation from her.

"Err... It was... Um...," she stuttered out, mentally face palming herself.

"It was mine." The voice came from behind them. Alaric walked inside the living room and approached them. Becca mentally sighed in relieved. She was saved by Uncle Ric. "Ric? What are you doing here?" Damon asked him.

"I came to check out on Becca after my date," Alaric answered.

"Did she give you a hard time?" Damon asked him.

Alaric glanced slightly at Becca and shook his head. "No, she didn't. She's well-behaved since yesterday," he lied, but Damon totally bought it.

"I'm really glad to hear that," Damon said, smiling at Becca. He kissed the top of her head.

"Look... I'm sorry for the alcohol smell. I had a few shots yesterday," Alaric said to Damon.

"I supposed your date didn't go that well?" Elena asked, shooting him a concern look.

Alaric scrunched his face. "Let's just not talk about it, okay?" he said, sounded almost desperate.

"What about the smell of the cleaning supplies?" Damon asked, shooting a suspicious glance at Becca.

"She cleaned up the house. She told me she wanted to prove that she could be responsible even without both of you here," Alaric told another lie.

Both Damon and Elena smiled at his statement. They turned to face Becca. "You don't need to prove us anything, sweetie," Elena said.

"We're proud of you," Damon told her, looking into her eyes. His eyes showed a proud look. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a hug. As soon as the words left his mouth, Becca's heart sank to her toes. She felt so bad for having Uncle Ric lying for her.

"It's nothing dad. It's not something that you should proud of me for," Becca said after Damon pulled back his hug.

"It's definitely something," Damon told her. A proud look still emanated from his eyes.

Becca just showed him a weak smile. "Can I be excused?" she asked.

"Yeah," Damon answered.

Becca gave Alaric an apologetic look mixed with thankful look before bolted up the stairs.

Becca stared at Ben from behind her locker the next morning.

"B!" Sarah shouted, making Becca jumped.

She whirled around and glared at Sarah. "Do you have to do that?" she snapped.

"Why are you so jumpy today?" Sarah asked.

"Couldn't it be more obvious? She's in love with Ben. You invaded her colorful imagination with him by shouting at her," Katelyn said, standing beside Sarah. Her statement made Becca's face went red in embarrassment. "I didn't shout," Sarah tried to defend herself.

"Sure," Katelyn said, rolling her eyes.

Becca was back being busy staring at Ben down the hall. "B, you know you're wearing his letterman jacket, right? He's totally into you," Sarah said, putting her arm around her shoulders.

Becca looked at Sarah. "I hope so," she mumbled.

"Becs, forget about it. He's bad news," Katelyn commented.

"What do you mean?" Becca asked.

"Look... I know it's strange... But every time his eyes met mine, I always have a bad feeling. Something about him is so strange. It's like... He's hiding something," Katelyn said.

"Well maybe you're wrong. I mean... Look at him. He's gorgeous, gentle, smart, and cute. What could he possibly hide?" Becca said.

Katelyn shrugged her shoulders and sighed. "Well, maybe I'm wrong," she said.

"Anyway, did you get in trouble with Mr. Saltzman for the party?" Sarah asked as Becca shut her locker.

"No," Becca answered, shaking her head slightly.

"He's cool with it?" Katelyn asked in disbelief, raising her eyebrows.

"Yeah, sorta. I mean... He didn't do anything else aside from lecturing me about it. He was once our age, right?" Becca said.

The bell rang and they went into Alaric's classroom.

"Miss Salvatore, I need to talk to you after class," Alaric said when Becca walked passed his desk. She nodded her head.

The lesson went slowly and Becca tried to pay attention in class despite her boredom. When the bell finally rang, the students flooded out the classroom while Becca remained in her seat. Alaric approached Becca, took a seat on the desk next to her, facing her.

"Thanks for covering up for me the other day," Becca said, looking at Alaric.

"It's no problem, Becca. I told you, you can trust me. But, I want to talk to you about something else," he said seriously.

"Okay."

"Becca, do you ever think about talking to the counselor about you cutting yourself?" Alaric asked. He stared at Becca with a concern look on his face.

"I'm fine, alright? I don't need help," Becca said coldly.

"You do need help, Becca. You need to talk to the counselor," Alaric told her.

"I don't need help!" she repeated, raising her voice.

Alaric frowned at her. "I'm sorry," Becca mumbled as soon as she realized she raised her voice at him.

"I'm worried about you, Becca," Alaric said with a deep breath.

"Thanks, but I'm fine," Becca said, putting a smile on her lips. She tried to assure him with a convincing look she could muster at the moment.

"At least think about it, okay?" Alaric said again.

"Fine. It'll think about it," Becca finally said with a huff. She wanted this conversation to be over.

He nodded his head with a triumph smile on his face. "Good. You can go to your next class, Becca," he said, dismissing her.

"Thanks, Uncle Ric," Becca said before walking out of his class. After all, she knew he really worried about her. She could see it in his eyes. It was true that the look in someone's eyes couldn't fool anyone.

The day went by slowly as per usual. It was in between fourth and fifth period when something happened. Becca was about to get out from a restroom stall when she heard two girls got inside the restroom while talking. Becca couldn't help but eavesdropping to their conversation.

"You know that new girl in town? What's her name again?" a girl said.

"Oh, you mean Becca Salvatore?" the other girl asked.

From the sidelines of the stall's door, she could see a girl with dirty long blonde hair stood in front of the mirror. A girl with brown skin who looked like a Latina stood beside her. Becca remembered them from her Math class. The teacher once called the blondie's name, but Becca couldn't remember it.

"Yeah, that Becca girl," the blonde said, "She's pathetic. I heard that she threw a party last Saturday just to hook up with a guy."

"What a slut," the Latina girl commented and they laughed.

"People said that she's an orphan, then she got adopted by a really rich couple," the Latina girl said next.

"See? Even her birth parents don't want her in the first place. Maybe she had been a slut since she was a baby!" the Blondie said with a slight chuckle. Paige. Becca suddenly remembered her name. Overhearing their mean words, Becca balled her fists.

"I know right! What I don't understand is that why would anyone adopt her?" the Latina girl asked.

Paige shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know... Maybe they made a mistake. I bet her adoptive parents just feel sorry for her because her real parents threw her away like rubbish. I doubt it they actually want her as their daughter," she said while putting some mascara on. "I mean, who would want her?"

Becca tried to control her tears from escaping her eyes. She tightened her fists until her knuckles went white.

The Latina girl laughed at Paige's remark. "Yeah you're right. It's just the matter of time before they throw her away just like her birth parents did to her. She's real pathetic if she believes they actually love her," she said. "Yeah," Paige said, putting some lip gloss on.

"Anyway, did you notice John got a new haircut? He's so hot," Paige changed the subject, clearly getting bored having the "slut orphan" as their subject of conversation.

After finishing up fixing their make-up, they walked out of the restroom while continuing discussing John and his new haircut.

As soon as they left, Becca sat down on the floor inside the stall. She pulled her knees to her chest, breathing heavily. She wanted to cut so badly, but she remembered she left her razor at home. Couple of tears dropped down her cheeks, but she quickly wiped them away with the back of her hands.

I cannot let them see me cry, she thought to herself.

Instead of letting her sorrow and frustration control over her, Becca's rage grew as seconds and seconds passed by. She thought about it for a moment and she found the perfect way to get revenge on them. She took a deep breath before walking out the restroom and into her next class.

She found Sarah and Katelyn already inside the classroom. She sat next to Sarah and in front of Katelyn. She glanced at Sarah then to Kate and a smile grew on her lips.

"Girls, we have a major prank to pull," she said with an evil grin on her lips.
