Chapter 133
Chapter 133
Daniel didn’t reply immediately.
“Does that mean Edith is simply using Carlos?
“So I might have a chance? Ha.”
He turned worked up, his hopes high again.
He quickly typed.
“Tell me if you need anything. I can help with some small favors, though I’m not as powerful as him. I always feel like we’re family so I don’t want him to get to hurt you. Okay?”
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. Ah. I should get back to work. Later.”
The conversation had 100 percent boosted Daniel’s ego so when he looked out of the window, he even found the scenery more pleasing to the eye.
That city didn’t seem to be as bad as he had imagined anymore.
Then, a woman knocked and entered the room wearing a plain tight–fitting lace dress and green silk square. She looked elegant and graceful. Her high heels clinked against the floor, her beautiful dress fluttering.
“You seem happy.”
Emma chuckled charmingly.
Daniel looked back. Emma had been an old friend of his. They used to be top students majoring in the same subject so they had gotten to chat happily through the Internet before even meeting in person.
She acted like a lady, and Daniel was a gentleman, so they soon hit it off. In design, they pursued the same goal- minimalism, trying to simplify things. However, while Emma focused on traditional women’s wear only, Daniel preferred the current trend.
She was inheriting the legacy and he was borrowing from the outside world, both popular with the nobles.
“Yes, I am.”
“Because of a girl?” Emma knew he had a girl in his heart. Though he never talked, she felt it.
Probably… it was because they had similar personalities so they started to better understand each other.
Daniel didn’t hide. “Yes, she’s a very good girl, doing what I do. Oh, I heard she’s in your studio.”
Emma widened her eyes. “Wow. It’s a small world. I’ll find out who she is later. I’ve been collecting antiques in the countryside. I didn’t even know about the change in staff. Oh, I’m here today on behalf of my family for the cooperation.”
“I fully trust you.”
“Okay, I’ll draft the contract as soon as possible and send it to you. Looking forward to working with you! You can continue missing your girl then. Bye”
Emma left promptly, leaving Daniel to collect his thoughts..
Daniel nodded and watched her leave. The moment she closed the door, he whipped out his phone to read Edith’s reply over and over again.
Chapter 133
In the evening, Carlos arrived on time to pick up Edith.
After others almost left, she finally snuck out of the building, tiptoeing like a thief.
To touch a sore spot….
Carlos impatiently honked seeing her from afar.
It sounded blaring in front of the office.
Startled, she trotted over and jumped into the car.
“Are you crazy? Why did you honk?”
“Is there such shame in meeting me?”
“Isn’t there? You’re my husband’s uncle, okay? I’m having nightmares every day where I’m stoned to death! I am petrified!”
Carlos laughed at her wild dreams.
“People out there don’t know who I am or who your husband is.”
“My friends and family do! I am so ashamed and exhausted every day.”
“All right, I’ll ask him to divorce you then,” he said helplessly.
Edith pursed her lips. “He’s gone on a vacation with some celerity. Who knows when he’ll be back!”
She felt agitated. She couldn’t get a divorce even if she wanted to.
“We don’t need him in person. Leave it to me.”
“No. That happened when I got married. So I won’t do that again. I should talk to him face to face. I know, you can decide for him… But there’s something I need to ask him. You know, I was bought at a dear price!”
She felt absurd about the price tag they put on her.
Carlos thought the idea sucked, at the same time wondering why she had to see Simon anyway.
After all, then, Carlos wouldn’t be able to cover his lies anymore!
Feeling a headache, he was planning a Texas Hold’em poker that night in his heart!
Infuriated, he stepped on the gas, which scared Edith.
That day, they didn’t arrive at the villa but at a restaurant.
“Why do we eat outside?” She felt a bit lost.
“We’re on a date.” He declared and held her hand without scruple. She jumped, wanting to shake him off but couldn’t..
She felt extremely guilty like she was having an affair.
Moreover, she had not agreed to be his girl yet, so what kind of date was that?
It was an upscale restaurant with a romantic setting, a pianist playing onstage.
Carlos seemed to have booked a table because soon after they sat down, a waiter corked a bottle of wine and poured it into glasses. The liquid shone under the lights, sparkling like stars. Cream of mushroom soup and bread rolls were served. followed by steak, dessert, and fruit salad.
She used to go on dates with Johann like that before. It was indeed romantic, but she found it more extravagant, and Johann was an upright young man who only spent his own money on her, not relying on his family.
She couldn’t bear to spend his money so they usually ate at home. Even in their tiny rented house, they could enjoy their meals together.
The most important thing was sincerity. The place wouldn’t matter, and of course, who you dined with also mattered.
Bewildered, she had ended up on a date with Carlos before she knew it.
“Um… Carlos, I don’t think this is appropriate, is it?” she said uneasily.
