Chapter 134
Chapter 134
“Just take it as a family reunion then. It’ll be okay?”
Edith couldn’t refute it and nodded.
While they were eating, they had an uninvited guest coming.
“Carlos, I didn’t expect to see you here. I remember taking you here for the first time. So I see you like the food here, huh?”
Meggie sounded sweet and soft, melting people’s hearts.
Carlos responded lightly. “You’re here for dinner too?”
“Yes. I just had a meeting with our director Kevin so we decided to grab a bite together. Hey, how are you, missy? Oh, I apologize for my fans ‘cause they’ve been too protective of me, aren’t they?”
She acted as if she had just noticed Edith, embarrassing the latter.
She was implying that Edith was so ordinary that she even ignored her.
Edith could only nod stiffly. “Hi, Miss Huffam. No, it’s all over now, and Carlos has been very helpful.”
“He’s indeed kind. He’ll help every single one of his friends in trouble.” Meggie smiled and slightly frowned at Edith’s plain clothes, so she “kindly” reminded her. “This place has a dress code. You weren’t stopped because you were with Carlos. They might have rejected you if you were alone, you know.”
Edith felt so ashamed that she wanted to find a hole to hide in.
She then noticed she was still in workwear, not some designer clothes, completely dwarfed by Meggie.
Embarrassed, she did not know how to respond, but Carlos spoke up. “If there’s nothing else, go back to your dinner. This is a private dinner for Edith and me. You don’t have to show up.”
Carlos wasn’t polite, saying that Meggie was in their way.
Meggie turned livid but soon returned to normal..
She plastered a sweet signature smile that had made people nickname her Sugar Pea.
However, then, her face looked rather rigid.
She took a deep breath and pretended to be calm. “Enjoy yourselves. I’ll get going.”
As Edith watched Meggie leave, she found her dazzling like a model on a catwalk.
Compared with Meggie, she felt like such a wallflower.
Her eyes couldn’t help but dim, and she found the food bland.
Seeing her hanging her head, Carlos knew that she was affected by Meggie. Although he was a little dissatisfied, he did not stop Meggie.
She was going to spend the rest of her life with him, dealing with various hypocrites as the wife of the head of the Lawson family. She had to accept both flattery and ridicule from others. Only in that way could she be qualified as Mrs. Lawson!
What Meggie had dealt her was just the tip of the iceberg. She had to grow up more in the future. Though a little cruel, it was a path she had to go down.
She was just sulking but he knocked her in the head. She pouted, feeling wronged.
Chapter 183-
“Why do you keep hitting me? You’ll wreck my brain and I’ll be an idiot. Who’s going to take after me then?”
“I’m going to look after you, idiot! Why do you care about others? I think you look splendid in anything. You’d rather believe in me or her?”
“Uncle Carlos, you’re making fun of me. How can I compare to her? She’s a noble while I’m a commoner. We’re from two different worlds.”
“Not everyone is born a noble,” he said slowly.
“You are, aren’t you?” She pursued doubtfully.
Carlos‘ eyes clouded, emotions brewing in them, making it hard to read his thoughts.
He fell silent for a moment and even made the atmosphere of the entire restaurant feel heavier.
He paused and finally spoke. “If I tell you I’m also born a commoner, just like, or even humbler than you, will you believe
me?”
She froze and couldn’t believe her ears.
He was born as the heir of the Lawson family. Though losing his father at a tender age, he had a strong mother, who ran the entire Lawstom well. She was second to no other men.
The eldest son of the family had tried to obtain the corporation but failed. Then, as Carlos grew up, he gradually took over the family business.
At that time, he had been a revered king none of his peers could compare.
To be precise, Robert and others who he hung out with were technically his juniors.
However, the man born with a sliver soon told her that he used to be like, or worse than her, which was just nonsense to her.
If it were any other people, she might have bought it.
“Uncle Carlos, don’t make fun of me. We both know it’s impossible!”
Carlos smiled bitterly and soon regained his composure. Edith didn’t even have the chance to capture that.
Rubby Lawson could do well. She had deceived everyone.
They all knew Carlos to have everything he wanted, but only he knew he was the humblest in the whole world.
He acted all tough just to build walls against the world.
He thought Edith wouldn’t understand and he would only disturb her.
Therefore, he curled his lips and said lightly. “Even if she is noble and you are a commoner, so what? I like you. In my eyes. you’re the best.”
Edith couldn’t help pursing her lips.
Of all the good girls out there, why would he want her?
She racked her brains but couldn’t figure it out. In the end, she couldn’t be bothered to think about it anymore.
Although she felt touched, she couldn’t afford to have her hopes raised high.
Been there, done that.
She didn’t want to suffer again!
