“Stop this. I’m not smart. That’s why I always get fooled. If you keep hitting me like this, what if I get more stupid?” Edith said immediately. 

“It doesn’t matter. You got me anyway. Go to bed early. Sleep tight, Carlos said. 

When he said sleep tight, he acted very unnatural. It was like he had never said such sentimental things before. 

It suddenly came to Edith that Carlos was a single man who had never fooled around with women. Now that he had denied that he was seeing Meggie, the two of them weren’t in a relationship. 

He was a man. Even if he had a good friend, he would not say “sleep tight” to him when they texted in the evening. 

Then could she understand that these words were exclusive to her? 

Thinking of that, she felt that the words “sleep tight was a precious gift. 

“Good night, Uncle Carlos,” she said sweetly.

Then he turned around and got out.

She took a hot bath and lay on the soft bed. She refrained from thinking about those annoying things and fell asleep. immediately. 

This time, she dreamed of Carlos.

When she heard this, Edith drew a small smile. 

It felt so good to be cared for by someone!. 

After breakfast, she went to work. She was still a bit nervous on the way. 

But when she arrived at the company, she found that no one talked about it, as if it had never happened. 

If it weren’t for the way her colleagues looked at her, she would have thought that what had happened was just a drearn. 

Sarah pulled her to a corner and said nervously. “Your uncle has got a lot of pull, hasn’t he? He’s even gotten his nose in our company’s business. Mr. Britton sent an email and forbade us from talking about what happened yesterday and anyone who defies him will be fired. Now everyone suspects that you’re sleeping with Mr. Britton.” 

Upon hearing this, Edith couldn’t help but feel speechless. How could they let their imagination run wild like that? 

She had just somehow become a hater of Meggie, and now her colleagues saw her as a pain in the ass. 

It seemed that she should fly low. 

But when had she ever had a high profile before? 

When it was lunchtime, she was going out for lunch. She ran into Daniel the second she reached the hall. 

“What are you doing here, Daniel? Sarah is still close to finishing her work. I’ll go to her and…” 

Before she could finish her sentence, Daniel interrupted her. 

“I’m here for you, so you don’t need to get to Sarah. I heard what happened yesterday,” he said. 

In fact, he also came over to look for her yesterday, but it was too bad that he didn’t find her. 

It was not until midnight that Sarah told him that she had been left with Carlos that he went home despondently. 

He was absolutely upset. But seeing that she was safe and sound set his mind at ease.

When Edith sensed the concern in his voice, her heart was warmed. 

There were still many people who cared for her! 

“Thank you for having faith in me, Daniel. Do you want to go to lunch with me? How about I invite Sarah to join us?” Edith said. She planned to fix him up with Saralı. It would be good if they really ended up being a couple. 

Noticing that she always mentioned Sarah, Daniel had a headache. 

“Don’t you want to have lunch with me alone?” he said. 

“What?” She was taken by surprise, oblivious to the underlying meaning behind his words. Why would he offer to dine with her alone? That was too embarrassing. If Sarah learned that, how was she going to explain it to her? 

When he noted her blank expression, Daniel sighed silently and didn’t say what he was going to say. 

He touched her head affectionately and said in a gentle voice, “I got something to do at noon. So I can’t have lunch with you. I got to go.” 

Drive safe then, Daniel,” she said, watching as he took off. 

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain from the back of her head, which made her gasp and quickly cover her head. 

When she turned around, she saw Carlos who was wearing a gloomy look. It was as if she owed him a lot of money. 

She couldn’t help frowning and complaining. “Uncle Carlos, what was that for?” 

“He’s already far away. Why are you still looking at him? You couldn’t bear to part with him?” Carlos said with a trace of jealousy. 

When she heard his words, Edith’s heartbeat raced up. Was he getting jealous? He sounded so to her. 

“What are you doing here, Uncle Carlos?” she asked. 

“Grabbing lunch, he replied briefly. 

“Oh, then I’ll leave you to it. See you around!” she said, waving goodbye to him. 

Just as she turned around in an attempt to leave, Carlos grabbed her by the collar from behind to render her immobile. In the next second, he dragged her towards his car. 

She ended up in his vehicle no matter how hard she tried to get rid of him. They stopped at an organic restaurant. 

Seeing that there was gourmet there, she stopped resisting. After all, food was of utmost importance for folks. 

Without even taking a look at the menu, Carlos ordered some home–cooked dishes. They were her favorite food. Soon, the food was served. 

She was so happy that she picked up her fork and began to eat. 

Seeing that she gobbled food without any table manners, Carlos was speechless. 

Had he lost his charm? Since the waitresses set lunch on the table, she hadn’t even taken a look at him. 

Even dishes were more appealing to her than him… 

If he were with another woman, they would definitely find an opportunity to talk to him, attract his attention, and try their best to find something they had in common to talk to. 

But she was an exception. 

Perhaps that was why he treated her differently. In the past five years, she was the only one he didn’t reject and wanted to get closer to.
