Chapter 122 

In the past, Edith would not have been moved by his words. She would have thought that he was using her. But now, she could not help but believe it. 

When people were in a fragile state, they tended to rely on others. 

She was really afraid that if he had done her too many favors, she would grow to rely on him. 

She figured that no one else would have looked for her at all costs like him in the world. 

Pursing her lips, she said, “Are you serious about that, Uncle Carlos? I hate liars. You’d better not lie to me.” 

“I happen to have zero tolerance for deception too. Looks like we’re a perfect match. It doesn’t surprise me that you don’t have faith in me. I’ll prove to you that I’m trustworthy. Anyway, you can’t run away from me,” Carlos said. 

When she heard this, Edith thought that he was just joking. 

The world was so big. Why couldn’t she hide from him? Did he really think of himself as God? 

What she didn’t know was that she had long become his legitimate wife. 

She was back in the familiar villa. All of a sudden, she found the place she had rejected all the time warm. 

Susan was busy with her job in the kitchen. When she heard the noise, she got out with spaghetti. She said to them, “Here you are. If you were a little late, I would be worried about you.” 

“Did you cook my dinner, Susan?” Sam said smilingly. Seeing that she nodded her head, he said, “Ms. White, here are some things you should know. Mr. Lawson ended the meeting quickly. He asked the PR department staff to deal with the negative online comments that said bad things about you. Our staff has all working extra hours to handle it. I and Mr. Lawson even went over to your house, but you were not there. We went to your company and nearby places where you often go to. Your friend Sarah Brown told us you didn’t leave, so Mr. Lawson thought you might still be in the garage. Otherwise, we might have still been searching for you aimlessly. He is the most anxious one after you went off the grid. Of course, he also made more efforts to find you than anyone else.” 

The moment these words came out of his mouth, Carlos kicked his ass. 

Carlos looked a bit awkward, and his ears turned red. Edith had never seen him like this before. 

He coughed twice to hide his embarrassment and faked being indifferent. “No one will think you’re mute or something if you keep your mouth shut.” 

“Mr. Lawson is being coy. That’s rare. If it weren’t for Ms. White, I would never have seen this side in him,” Sam said. 

“Shut up, Carlos said, glaring at him threateningly. But his threat didn’t work on Sam. He knew that his boss wouldn’t do anything to him in front of Edith.

Susan watched as they bickered. It was rare for a mature and composed man like Carlos to be this childish. 

She smiled and said, “Come over here and have some spaghetti.” 

The three of them took their seats. Susan didn’t intend to eat with them, but Edith wanted. 

Carlos said, “From now on, she has the final say in this family.” 

Upon hearing this, Edith seemed to have caught the subtext between his words. 

She felt like she were the hostess here. He had arranged himself at the head, which showed that he was the master of the 

house. 

At the thought of that, she felt a little ashamed. 

Jesus. She was still a married woman. How could she let her imagination run wild like this? 

Besides, was she that fickle? She had just gotten out of a relationship. Was it possible that she fell for another person so soon? 

Edith had no answers to those questions. Healing a wound might not take a long time. It went the same with falling in love. 

The second her heart missed a beat, she developed an affection for him. But she was yet to notice that. 

Edith had a pleasant chat with Sam and Susan. Although Carlos didn’t join them, he drew smiles and looked less serious. He was no longer stone–cold. 

After dinner, she went to her room to rest. After all, it was getting late. 

As for Carlos and Sam, they would stay over. 

Less than half an hour later. Carlos knocked on the door. 

“Open up, he said. 

He sounded like he was giving an order. 

Edith didn’t bother to ask him what he was up to. Even if she didn’t get the door, he would kick it open. 

She answered the door wrapping a blanket around her. She had been outside for too long that she felt cold. So she decided to take a shower when she got warm. 

To her surprise, Carlos came in with a hot toddy. 

“For me?” she asked, surprised. 

“Look at you. You must feel cold. If I didn’t get you this, what if you get ill?” he said. 

She nodded in agreement, sitting cross–legged on the bed obediently. She had wrapped herself in the blanket so well that only her head was uncovered. She had a palm–sized face and fine features. No one would get sick of her even if they spent the rest of their lives with her. 

He watched as she waited for him to feed meekly like a squab. 

She was cut out to be a pet. 

He was more than happy to support her for the rest of his life. 

Soon, she finished the hot toddy. He pulled out a candy bar from his pocket like conjuring tricks. 

“How did you get this?” she asked with elation. 

“It doesn’t matter. You don’t want it?” he asked smilingly, staring into her eyes. He thought nothing was more fabulous than 

her eyes. 

They were sparkling, which made her pure and naive. 

“Of course, I want it,” she said. 

She took it and put it in her mouth, still a little curious. 

As far as she knew, Carlos wasn’t a big fan of sugar. It was beyond her wildest imagination that he would bring candy with him. It would be too childish for a grown man like him. 

But she didn’t voice out her doubts. She was not the kind of person who would never give up until they got answers. 

Chapter 122, 

Uncle Carlos, do you know what’s going on with the news on the Internet? I did go to your house and met Meggie the night before yesterday. But I didn’t expose that she was in your place or write those boring comments. Do you… believe me?” 

When she asked whether he believed her, she became sensitive and fragile. Hence, she mentioned it gingerly. 

She was really worried that he wouldn’t believe her. She was so eager to get his trust. 

This time… she did not want to disappoint herself. 

Meeting her sincere and expectant eyes, he could not bear to let her down. 

He tapped her forehead with his finger. That was their routine. 

She pouted her mouth and glared at him, but she didn’t dare say anything. She looked like a poor puppy. 

“Of course, I know it’s not you, and I also know who did it. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of this. I promise that your life will be back to normal the next day,” he said. 

When she heard this, Edith was relieved. It seemed that there was nothing he couldn’t handle. 

“Well… I’m going to sleep. You can see yourself out now,” she said. 

When she spoke, she glanced at the door and suggested that he should leave. 

“Aren’t you going to marry me for what I’m doing for you?” he said half–jokingly as he tapped her forehead again.
