Chapter 40
Alexandra’s POV
Emma was still standing by the edge of the cliff so I took off running towards her. When I got to her she was staring out at the sky, “Alex, look.”
I looked out at the dark sky, seeing thousands upon thousands of little dots coming towards us, “We have to go right now!”
Tobias flew up from the water below and shook his head, “It’s too late. If we leave now, we would be leading them to Speartail. There are mothers and fledglings that cannot fight. It would be a massacre.”
Demarcus engulfed Izzy into a hug, “Listen to me. Take Emma and run as far away from here as possible and don’t you dare look back. You know where the safe house is.”
I wrapped my arms around Emma, “Be safe.”
She shook her head, “I am not leaving you. You will get slaughtered going against this many angels. I can help.”
I let go of her as Izzy came up, grabbing her hand, “Come on, Emma. We have to get out of here. With us safe, they can focus on the fight.”
Emma nodded, “Okay. I will go.”
°I love you Alexandra. Now go kick some ass.°
“I love you too.”
They both took off running into the trees and when I could hear their footsteps slowly disappear, I turned back towards the angels. They had gotten just close enough to see the outlines of their wings without focusing too hard. We probably had a minute left.
“Larus, are you on your way here?”
“Yes fledgling. We are only a few minutes out. Demarcus informed all his best fighters as soon as he spotted the angels.”
Demarcus walked up next to me, “We are going to have to play dirty this time. Go for their wings and steal their swords. I know we like to boast that we don’t need weapons but this is definitely a good time to use them.”
Leire whistled and her horde came running out of the trees with bows and arrows, “Good because I was planning on using these.”
An evil passed her a bow and arrow but the tips of the arrows had shiny silver tips. Jerick’s eyes went wide, “I never thought you would be the one to play dirty.”
She smiled, “What can I say, I am an evil… There were so many swords just laying around from the last fight. Why not use them for the tips of my arrows?”
Jerick pulled out an angel sword, “In that case, I don’t need to keep this hidden anymore.”
Demarcus chuckled, “Okay, let’s kick some angel ass.”
We all snapped our wings out and launched from the cliff, towards the angels. The first one I came up too I countered his attack and wrapped my tail around his legs. Without hesitating I flung myself behind him and ripped off a wing with my claw, watching him fall to the ground. I saw arrows from Lerie’s horde flying past me and taking out angels but everything was too little. There were a hell of a lot more angels than us. It was easy for them to circle us together and block us from attacking anymore of them. They all created a border around us so we couldn’t fly away. Demarcus nudged my shoulder, “The others are in the trees. Tuck in your wings and drop. They left below us open.”
We all tucked in our wings and began our descent. The angels followed after us but we were a bit faster. Right as we were about to hit the tree tops we stopped ourselves as all the other evils flew up ready to attack the angels. My eye caught Larus with his sword out and Elijah next to him. Everyone clashed together and the fighting erupted. Angel feathers and wings were flying throughout the air along with the spray of blood and dropping bodies. I let my evil take over and cut through wing after wing like butter. As an angel fell by me I caught it’s sword, making it even easier to kill them. I was getting a few cuts and bruises from the occasional punch or scratch but it wasn’t anything major. The main problem was all of us weren’t as with swords as the angels were.
The angels were still getting the upper hand on us as we were getting more tired out as the sun began to rise. We have been fighting for at least a couple of hours and more angels kept coming. I could tell my moves were starting to get sloppy as my body was littered with cuts. I stop for a second only to get attacked by another angel almost making me fall from the sky.
“Keep fighting fledgling. We can win this.”
“Yes maker.”
Emma’s POV
We have been running for what feels like forever. My running slowed down to walk and I tried to catch my breath, “Izzy, I don’t think I can run anymore. I am sure we are far enough away by now.”
She stopped too and slumped over, “I didn’t think it would be this far. When Demarcus took me here last time, we were flying and it only took twenty minutes.”
I put my arm around her shoulders, “Alex is getting tired down. Larus is trying to get her to keep fighting.”
“Demarcus is exhausted too. Let’s get to the safe house first then we can worry about them. It shouldn’t be long.”
We began walking as fast as we could through the trees and the forest was getting harder to find our way through. We came up to a small clearing with a cabin. She smiled, “We finally made it.”
“You almost made it,” A voice from behind us spoke.
We both turned around seeing a group of angels. One of them spoke, “Looks like we found the human mates. What do you say, should we kill them now or in front of their mates?”
I whispered over to Izzy, “Run for the cabin. I will run for the trees.”
She nodded and we tried to run but they easily grabbed our arms and pulled us into them. The angel holding me smirked, “How cute, you think you can run. Now, that is going to cost you and since it was your idea you are going to die first.”
They held a sword to my neck while Izzy screamed out, trying to pull against them. I glared at them, “You don’t scare me. I am the mate of an evil. So go ahead and do what you want. You won’t break me.”
The angel smirked, “Interesting. Let’s keep this human around a bit longer. Her friend can be the first to go.”
The other angels holding Izzy held a sword to her throat, putting more and more pressure onto it. I struggled and turned in their grips, “Izzy!”
