Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Diana had silver hair. She looked at Josephine with a kind smile and said, “Hello, young lady. I’m Ragnar’s grandmotherl”
“So…” thought Josephine as she immediately understood.
She looked at Diana and said, “So you pretended you had low blood sugar? You were testing me, weren’t you?”
The old woman with a head full of silver hair smiled.
She smiled kindly and looked at Josephine gently. “Yes, I was testing you, young lady. You’re not mad at me, are you?”
Josephine shook her head.
She didn’t have the right to be angry because it was understandable that Diana would be concerned about a stranger like her suddenly marrying into a family as well–known as the Levine family.
Besides, there was no way Josephine could get mad at such a gentle old woman.
It was just…
Josephine looked at Diana with clear eyes. “Think back to your acting just now. It wasn’t really that good! I could easily tell you were faking it.”
“Hahaha…” Diana broke out in a burst of generous laughter.
She nodded, agreeing with Josephine’s words. “I admit my acting skills could be better, but your kindness makes you blind to many details. I like you very much, young lady.”
Therefore, Diana was very generous. She took off the bangle on her arm and gave it to Josephine.
Surprised, Josephine quickly refused, “No, Grandma Diana, this gift is too precious.”
“So what if it’s precious? This has been passed down from generation to generation in the Levine family. You’re my granddaughter–in–law, so it’s only right that it’s passed down to you. Take it, or I’ll be angry!” said Diana, pretending to be angered.
Josephine was speechless. She was indeed Ragnar’s wife and Diana’s granddaughter–in–law. “But I’m just her temporary granddaughter–in–law. But if I don’t accept it…”
After thinking for a while, Josephine finally accepted the bangle. “Thank you, Grandma Diana,” she thanked her politely.
Josephine held the bangle in her palms and decided to give it to Ragnar when he returned.
“That’s more like it.” Diana was very happy.
The bangle wasn’t the only thing she wanted to give. “Young lady, after arriving here, I checked out the bedroom you shared with Ragnar without your permission. I hope you don’t mind me doing that. I was worried that Ragnar would simply find someone to trick me.”
After saying that, her experienced eyes looked at Josephine as if she could see through her. “Young lady, you andiRagnar are not lying to me, right?” she asked suddenly.
Josephine was speechless again, and her heart skipped a beat. She looked at Diana a little guiltily and shook her head. “No.”
“Well, I believe you.”
Then Diana informed Josephine, “I didn’t see any of your clothes in the bedroom’s wardrobe of Ragnar and you. That’s not right, so I asked someone to arrange some for you. Please go check them out later. I’ll buy you some more if you don’t like them.”
“Oh, by the way, I’ve also arranged for some jewelry to be sent to you. I’ve chosen the designs that you young kids would like.”
After saying that, Diana took out a bank card, which was a black card and one of those credit cards with an unlimited spending limit!
“Young lady, Ragnar gave me this card, but I have my own money, so there’s no use for me. You can have it. There’s no spending limit since it’s a supplementary card. Use this card to buy whatever you want. Remember, you are Ragnar’s wife, so all the money he earns is for you to spend. If you want it, just buy it to your heart’s content!”
Diana smiled proudly and wouldn’t take no for an answer, so she stuffed the card straight into Josephine’s hand.
“Thrift is a virtue. But Ragnar is good at making money, so just spend it however you see fit, Josephine!” added Diana.
One could tell Diana really liked Josephine.
She continued to talk to Josephine for a long while before finally letting her go. “I’ve kept you for a long time. You must think I’m long–winded. You may go to your room now, young lady.”
Josephine shook her head. She didn’t think Diana was long–winded at all. On the contrary, Diana reminded her of her own grandmother. She was comforted and moved by the old lady’s pure love and affection for her. This sense of familial feeling was something she hadn’t felt for a long time.
Her aunt had become her only living relative ever since Josephine’s grandparents and parents passed away. At that moment, she relived what it felt like to be protected and adored by family members. This was all thanks to the 60–year–old Diana. Thus, her eyes started to tear up.
Diana was startled after realizing Josephine was about to cry. “What’s wrong, young lady? Why are your eyes red? Are you going to cry? Quickly tell me what’s wrong.”
Josephine’s eyes teared up even further. Finally, she couldn’t keep the tears in anymore, and they started to flow down her face.
She looked at the concerned Diana and said in a choked voice, “You remind me of my own grandmother. I…”
Josephine didn’t tell her that her grandparents and parents passed away when she was only a teenager, leaving her with her aunt.
She just looked at Diana with reddened eyes and asked pleadingly, “Grandma Diana, can I hug you?”
“Of course!”
Diana stretched out her arms to welcome Josephine’s embrace.
She stroked Josephine’s hair and looked at her gently. “Silly girl, I might not be your real grandmother, but I’ll always be your Grandma Diana, and I promise you I’ll protect you forever.”
Ragnar should have returned home earlier that day since Diana said she would be coming. However, something happened in the company, so he had not choice but to go home late.
As soon he walked in, Ragnar was greeted with the scene of Diana and Josephine sitting on the couch and holding hands intimately. “They sure look cozy together. Seems like they’re getting on well,” thought Ragnar.
Danny and Manny were also there.
They were lying on the baby carriage and would punch and kick the air with their plump little arms and legs from time to time. This delighted Josephine and Diana to no end, and they would laugh happily every time they saw the twins doing that.
Diana immediately smiled kindly when she saw Ragnar coming in. “Ragnar, you’re back. What good timing. Dinner is just ready. Let’s go,” she said.
Then she stood up and walked over to the dining room with Ragnar and Josephine.
Diana was very elegant. Every little action of hers seemed to exude an innate sense of nobility. She was different from Ragnar, who kept silent during
mealtimes.
Diana looked toward Josephine and said, “Young lady, there’s no need to be shy. Some would say it’s unbecoming to talk while eating, but honestly speaking. I think the livelier, the better. It makes one’s home homier, don’t you think?”
Diana would make Josephine feel at home by piling food on her plate. She, of course, did the same to Ragnar.
Sometimes, she would even glare at Ragnar and reprimand him, “You’ve always been like this, not a word even while eating at my place. But how can
you still be like this now that you’ve got yourself a wife?”
