Chapter 39
Chapter 39
After dinner, Josephine accompanied Diana for a walk. Then the two of them went to Danny’s and Manny’s rooms.
Josephine would gently coo sweet nothings at the twins while bathing or playing with them.
Diana could tell that Josephine really liked Danny and Manny. She was also relieved to find out that Josephine was really good at taking care of them.
It was also obvious to Diana that the twins really liked and relied on Josephine too. They would stick to her and refuse anyone else whenever Josephine. was in the room with them.
Diana suddenly thought of Xavier after seeing how Josephine took good care of Danny and Manny and how she really liked them.
Her eyes immediately teared up. “Don’t worry, Xavier. Danny and Manny are growing up well. Ragnar and Josephine are taking very good care of them,” thought Diana.
Diana only stayed in the twin’s room for a little while before returning to her room to rest. After all, age was catching up with her.
Josephine remained in the twin’s room, and it was already 10 p.m. by the time she finally put them to bed.
Josephine wanted to stay a little bit longer; she even thought of spending the night in the twin’s room so that she could avoid sleeping in the same bed as Ragnar.
But she threw away that idea very quickly because Diana would definitely find it suspicious if she didn’t sleep in the same room as Ragnar on the first day Diana was there.
So Josephine had no choice but to knock on Ragnar’s bedroom door before entering.
By that time, Ragnar had already taken a shower and was lying on the big bed and reading.
He was dressed in his pajamas. The warm yellow light in the room fell on his flawless cheek, making him look much gentler than he normally looked.
“No, I must not fall for this illusion,” Josephine told herself.
“Why would you knock on your own bedroom door?” asked Ragnar as soon as she saw Josephine coming in.
Josephine didn’t know how to answer him.
It wasn’t as if she did it out of politeness. She just didn’t want to walk in on him doing something that would make her feel embarrassed,
“I won’t do it again,” she said meekly.
“Okay.”
Ragnar was satisfied with her reply. He looked at her with his dark eyes. “It’s late. You should go to bed.”
“Okay,” answered Josephine.
Josephine’s heart was thumping wildly against her chest. The way Ragnar was looking at her was making her feel nervous, worried, embarrassed, and overwhelmed.
However, Josephine didn’t leave, not even in such a situation.
She took out the bangle and the black card Diana gave her. “Grandma Diana gave these to me. She wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I had no choice but to accept them. Mr…”
Josephine nearly called him Mr. Levine out of habit but stopped herself before the words came out.
Josephine looked toward Ragnar and continued, “I thought I would give it to you, and then you can return them to Grandma Diana after three years.”

Ragnar frowned. He became a little upsel when she brought up what would happen after three years.
He didn’t reach out his hands to take the bangle or the black card.
Instead, Ragnar looked at Josephine with his deep dark eyes and said, “You can keep it since she gave it to you, and you can also return it to her personally.”
Once again, Josephine didn’t know what to say to him. She remained stunned for a while before finally nodding and saying, “Okay”
Then, Josephine turned around and left. She carefully put away the bangle and the black card, vowing to keep what didn’t belong to her safe! After three years, she would return the two items to Diana.
After that, Josephine walked over to the wardrobe. She was going to take out her pajamas to wear after showering. But she was shocked when she opened her wardrobe because it was filled with all kinds of clothes in her size.
“Holy moly. This is what Grandma Diana meant by some clothes? More like a whole wardrobe full of them!” thought Josephine.
Some various new dresses and tops and bottoms came in a set. Of course, there were also pajamas made out of silk or cotton–each of them extremely sexy! Some of them were even low–cut to the point of chest–revealing.
And some were so revealing that even a transparent piece of fabric would cover more of her than the pajamas! Any man would have lost his common sense if he ever saw her dressed in that pajamas!
Josephine’s cheeks turned red.
Fortunately, out of respect for Josephine, Diana didn’t throw away Josephine’s old clothes even after buying her so many new clothes.
Josephine picked up her cotton pajamas and went to the bathroom, her cheeks burning red.
She entered the bathroom.
It took her a long time before she finally gathered the courage to turn on the shower, for she felt uncomfortable knowing there was a man she wasn’t intimate with just outside the bathroom door.
Ragnar, who was still reading on the big bed, suddenly couldn’t focus on the book in front of him when he heard the sound of the running shower.
The image of Josephine cloaked in a haze of steam flashed across Ragnar’s mind, making his Adam’s apple roll up and down..
His mouth went dry, so he picked up the glass of water next to his bed and fiercely gulped down the entire content. Then, he thought he might as well go to the balcony connected to the room since he was not in the mood to read anymore.
A cold wind was blowing that night. Ragnar lit a cigarette and remained standing on the balcony long after he was finished with it.
The sound of the running shower could still be heard when Ragnar returned to the bedroom. He frowned and thought, “Do all women take this long in the shower? It shouldn’t have taken more than five minutes. Why is she taking so long?”
He returned to the balcony and stood there for a while. The sound of the running shower finally stopped by the time he returned to the bedroom for the
second time.
Ragnar laid down on his big bed again and picked up his book, but he was no longer in the mood to read. A few minutes passed, and he realized he was just re–reading the same sentence over and over again.
Ragnar put down the book impatiently and just sat there with his eyes closed, resting.
After a while, he got out of bed when he realized there was no sound of Josephine opening the bathroom door or her coming out of the bathroom.
Ragnar walked over to the bathroom and knocked on the door. “Are you planning world domination in there or what? What’s taking you so long to come out?” he asked in a clear voice.
Josephine, who was putting on clothes, was speechless. She was startled by Ragnar’s sudden knock on the door and almost fell.
After making herself upright, she became even more speechless when she heard what Ragnar said. His voice sounded again before she could even say anything. “Might I remind you that the room you’re in is actually a bathroom? Do you seriously plan to shower until the next morning? Or do you plan to sleep in there tonight?”
Still, Josephine didn’t say anything. In fact, if she could, she would rather sleep in the bathroom.
“I’ll be done soon.” Her voice came from the other side of the door.
Ragnar said nothing more. He turned around and returned to the big bed once again.
The bathroom door opened.
Josephine, dressed in conservative pajamas, walked out. She was clad in a pair of long–sleeved tops and ankle–length bottoms. No sign of skin showed anywhere except for her face, hands, and feet.
Her long black hair was damp because she had just washed them. Drops of water were dripping off her hair, wetting her pajamas, and some of the drop were even seductively running down her pajama collar.
Her checks flushed and shone from the heat of the shower, making her look more beautiful than usual.
Her neck was also pretty. It was slender with a pronounced collarbone. And right there on Josephine’s right collarbone dimple was a dark red mole.
