Chapter 23
NAEL
I was beside myself with rage. What was Ilay thinking? He could just walk into my house and do whatever he wanted? No way!
I was so angry that I ran through the corridors of the palace and nobody dared speak to me.
I had Delilah taken to a room and sent for the doctor. I had never seen such power emanate from a demon before. It was as if several invisible waves had hit us, and each time they got stronger. It was indescribable what Delilah did in that moment of rage. We all flew into the wall and hurt ourselves. How could one woman throw ten men against the wall without lifting a finger?
It was clear that it had cost her a lot of strength. It had cost her so much strength that she collapsed unconscious.
Ilay, on the other hand, didn't care how she felt. His ego had grown many times over. There was no way he was going to spend the rest of his life feeling sorry for himself. Where would that lead? He could be glad that his mate was at least somewhere in this world and that she was doing well. Mine was buried in the ground, after all. I stood outside Delilah's room and paced up and down restlessly.
I could see the whole country through the large window.
Angrily, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes to calm down a little.
I slowly expelled my breath and sighed softly. I had to calm down again to get a clear view. Ilay's mood was damn contagious and poisonous. I couldn't let him manipulate me, that wouldn't be good.
I opened my eyes again and stared at the large wooden door that led to Delilah's room. The moment I saw her unconscious put me into a kind of trance. I felt as if everything was happening in slow motion and the whole world stood still at that moment. Thank God I was near her and was able to catch her.
Her fiery red eyes slowly turned blue again and froze for a moment... Her breath hitched and her body shook. All of this brought my world to a standstill for a second and I felt a fear inside me.
From that moment on, I wondered what role Delilah played in my life. I liked her from the start and we were on the same wavelength.
I hadn't felt this sense of friendship and connection for years... Did that mean something?
I bit my lower lip and shook my head slightly.
It was all in my head... these feelings. Delilah was in the middle of my brother's war, never in my life would she deal with me in a situation like this.
I couldn't even think about it.
Although Ilay claimed that she meant nothing to him, that wasn't entirely true. Ilay still saw her as his mate, and if I didn't know any better, it was that sight that had made him explode.
Ilay was a ticking time bomb, and it probably wouldn't be long before it went off.
My father had given him a long speech, but as long as the speech lasted, it would take Ilay to cause the next collateral damage.
I sighed softly, knocked on Delilah's door and stepped inside.
She was sitting up in her bed, back against the wall, legs drawn up. She looked distraught and didn't realise I was in the room at first. I cleared my throat quietly and went to her. "Delilah?" I asked quietly, biting my lower lip involuntarily.
She looked up at me and stared at me with wide eyes "N-Nael..." she whispered and stood up.
"Please sit down..." I asked her, but instead of sitting down, she hugged me tightly.
"I was so scared for you, Nael..." she whispered softly as I returned her hug.
The thing with Zamiel must have got to her bones, the way she was worried about me right now.
"Don't worry about me, Ilay can't hurt me," I said to her, hoping to reassure her.
She looked at me worriedly, but finally nodded. She sat back down on her bed and looked at me, goose bumps running all over her body and I could imagine what she was thinking.
"That was a tremendous power you had in you, Delilah.... I've never seen anything like it in my life and I've been alive for a very long time," I said to her and sat down next to her.
She shrugged her shoulders and bit her lower lip. "I don't know what got into me at that moment... Maybe it was the stress?" She scratched the back of her head sheepishly and looked at me.
"You really don't need to worry about Ilay now, my father has already been to see him... To be honest, I've been thinking about what you said and I think that if there's still a way to help him somehow... then we should do it. If not, then at least we've tried," I explained to her and smiled slightly.
She paused for a moment and looked at me. "For the sake of peace, I would even help you..." she mumbled to herself.
I couldn't help but smile and nodded slightly "You take care of yourself, that breakdown earlier didn't look like fun," I replied, brushing a strand of hair out of her face.
It was a strange situation, between me and her, but I was unsure of her emotional state. I didn't want to push her in any way, but she didn't seem to mind.
DELILAH
I never thought I would be so happy to see Nael.
I really thought that one of the two brothers would die, the way they had dressed up.
I still felt wobbly on my feet, the action earlier had taken all my strength. "Ilay also said that he only did all this to get revenge on Zamiel... You shouldn't have been there," he finally said.
I thought about his words and could hardly believe it "The judge wanted you there," Nael explained, rubbing his temples.
"Can we talk about something else?" I asked him and had to smile at the way Nael tried to straighten everything out every time.
He smiled at me now too and nodded slightly. "Are you hungry?" he finally asked me. I wasn't really hungry any more, but I didn't want to be rude "Food sounds good," I replied.
I'll be right back," he said and disappeared through the door.
It wasn't long before he came back in the door with a tray full of food.
I raised my eyebrows in amusement and watched as he even brought me another serving tray for the bed. I had to giggle as he looked me in the eye and prepared everything for me. "I could have eaten at the table," I said to him as he held a fork of scrambled eggs to my mouth.
"Open your mouth," Nael urged me with a grin as I opened my mouth and let him feed me.
"Well, if you ride this rail, I'll wash the blood off your face later," I said to him and was already getting the next fork shoved into my mouth. "Shh," he said and winked at me.
I giggled and put my hand over my mouth. "You'll end up being the cause of my death, diagnosis: choked while scrambling," I said and grinned at him.
"Oh no, believe me, I'll know how to prevent that," he finally handed me the fork and let me continue eating "I can't eat that much..." I mumbled and stared at the overfilled plate. Nael had really meant well with me.
There was a knock at the door when my father entered the room.
He looked at me worriedly and realised that Nael was also in the room. He came up to me "Are you all right?" he finally asked, nodding at Nael "He's gone now," he confirmed to Nael, who nodded.
"I'm better," I replied to my father, who I hadn't seen so worried for a long time.
"You completely trashed Nael's office... As strong as you were, it will probably need a complete renovation," he raised his eyebrows in amazement and smiled at me.
At that moment, I actually wondered what my power was all about.
"That's the least of our worries, Chris. The repairs will be done in a week. I can only hope that Ilay pulls himself together and doesn't mess up," Nael dropped into a chair and looked back and forth between the two of us.
"Would you fancy a trip to Italy?" Nael asked, looking at us askance.
I frowned and looked at my father "Italy?" I asked in amazement.
Nael nodded slightly "We have to go and see Ragnol... He's the only one who knows the law of demons and can help us with Ilay," Nael explained, seemingly lost in thought.
"Chris, you'd best come to Delilah's office later, which I'm temporarily sharing with her until mine is set up again," he said to him, to which my father nodded silently.
Finally, Nael looked at me: "Have you ever been to Italy?
I shook my head in the negative.
"Then I can only hope that you bring your hunger for Italy with you, they have the best pizzas and the best coffee. We'll leave tomorrow, if your condition allows," he said to me and finally stood up.
My father already had a big question mark on his face and looked at Nael in confusion: "I hate to ask you, Nael, but what is Delilah doing in Italy?" he asked him, looking at him askance.
Nael smiled at him "She'll be my mental support and as you've seen, she's even able to play my bodyguard. She's coming with me," he finally said.
My father looked at me without comment and I shrugged my shoulders innocently.
Nael's order, not mine.
