Chapter 24
NAEL
Chris didn't seem too keen on the idea of taking Delilah to Italy. Especially that I told him to hold down the fort here while WE, Delilah and I, are away.
Still, he agreed to all of this and just told me to keep an eye on her.
He was right, it was dangerous to be with her in Italy with the vampires, but I would give my life if anything happened to her. That much was clear.
I had got up early in the morning and packed a small suitcase. We would have to make a diversion, because I remembered that Ilay had to take a heart to Dimitri back then.
I didn't feel like asking Ilay about this, so I had come up with the idea of taking matters into my own hands.
Achira had given me some information and told me where I could find Ryan Hamilton.
I'll give you three guesses: Who booked a hotel room at the Hamilton under the name "Ilay Edevane"? Wink. Me.
I stood in front of the mirror in my expensive suit and fixed my hair.
I sprayed myself with perfume and finally left my room.
I wondered how Delilah was doing. I had spent half the night thinking about her and her condition. Perhaps Ragnol would be able to tell us something about that too?
Now I stood outside Delilah's room and knocked on the door.
"May I come in?" I asked her before entering the room.
"Yes, you're just in time," I heard Delilah say and went into her room.
She stood in front of the wardrobe and tried to zip up her dress, but she couldn't because it was hooked.
Would you zip it up for me?" She turned her back to me. I can't get it closed somehow," she said.
The zip was still quite far down, so I could see her whole back. Even the top of her thong was peeking out, and she was wearing the matching dark red bra.
Fuck Nael... Restraint was the order of the day.
Her back was beautiful, and when I pulled up her zip, she got goose bumps.
A slight smile flitted across my lips as she turned to me and looked me in the eye "Thank you," she said softly, smiling at me too.
"Did you sleep well?" I asked her, to which she nodded slightly "Yes, it did me good after what happened yesterday," she replied. "How are your injuries?" she asked me, touching the barely visible spot on my cheek that had been scratched yesterday. Ilay had not only used his fists, but also his fingernails.
"Oh, it's all gone, you don't have to worry," I said to her and she looked at me.
I lost myself in her beautiful blue eyes. They were magical and everything about her seemed perfect.
"Before we go to Italy, we have to make a little stopover," I warned her and she frowned.
I raised my eyebrows "We can't just stroll in to Ragnol, something is required.... I need to find out what it is. Only then can we proceed," I explained to her. I knew exactly what it was, but I wanted to spare her the details.
Besides, I had instructed Chris to look for a pure heart and bring it to me if necessary.
Delilah nodded slightly and didn't ask any more questions. Thankfully. On second thought, it was a hell of a price to pay for Ilay and I could only hope that Delilah would be understanding if the worst came to the worst.
"Shall we?" I asked her and she nodded. Chaos was inevitable, I already knew that, but I had to break it to her gently.
"Our journey will first take us to New Orleans to the Hamilton Hotel. I've booked a hotel room there in Ilay's name to attract the right people," her eyes widened and she looked at me incredulously. "I thought we were just visiting Ragnol?" she mumbled, touching her forehead.
"Yeah, something like that, he's in Dimitri's captivity, there's no way round it... We have to go through it," Delilah was a smart thing and knowing Delilah, her brain was now working at full speed to gather information about Ragnol and what had happened.
"Trust me Delilah... It's all planned and you have nothing to worry about. Should any danger arise, you can teleport back immediately, okay?" This option was always open to her.
She nodded in understanding and swallowed, "Good... then let's go before Ilay shows up here again and gives us hell," Delilah finally said, still not looking convinced by any of this.
"Take my hand, this is going to be a hard landing," I said as she grabbed my hand and held onto the suitcase with the other.
I teleported us to New Orleans and we landed in an alley, far away from people so as not to attract attention.
I held Delilah so she wouldn't fall to the ground.
"Wow, that was a landing," she said smiling and looking at me.
"We'll have to get used to that in the near future... Don't forget what I told you...", I mentioned again and finally walked off with her.
As far as I knew, Hamilton wasn't far from here. The striking resemblance between Ilay and I would make any employee in this hotel take notice, and if I didn't know better, Ryan even had a direct view of the security cameras.
I strolled through the streets of New Orleans with Delilah and finally stopped with her in front of the Hamilton.
I looked at her and had to smile "A big bad wolf could turn up at any moment and think you're his wife..." I ran my hand through my hair, embarrassed.
Delilah rolled her eyes "Sometimes I feel like I'm the decoy for everything," she laughed and shook her head.
"Come on, that's not true ... You just look like Ilay's girlfriend... That's your only advantage."
"Advantage? I'm kidnapped halfway by strange men and run into the next fat trap," Delilah couldn't help but laugh again.
I raised my eyebrows in amusement. "Have you forgotten that you have me by your side?" I asked her, to which she giggled. "It's okay, I understand what you're trying to tell me."
"Ladies first," I said and held the door to the hotel open for her.
Together we entered the huge, expensive-looking lobby and went to reception.
I looked around and saw a security camera, which I peered into with a twinkle in my eye.
An old man greeted us "What can I do for you?" he asked us.
"We've booked a room in the name of Ilay Edevane," I said as he looked at the computer and searched for our booking.
Finally, he handed me the keys: "You can go to the top floor, that would be number eight," he explained. "Thank you very much," I finally said, and as I walked to the lift with Delilah, I heard a low growl behind me.
"What the hell are you doing here, Ilay? Cate, where's Henry? Why aren't you with him?" a male voice asked me.
A small grin played around my lips and I turned to face the person.
Judging by the questions, it must actually be Ryan. It didn't really take long...
Ryan frowned when he saw me and Delilah, "You're not Ilay at all..." he mumbled to himself, looking at me in confusion.
"Where's Ilay?" he then asked me.
I walked towards him and held out my hand: "I'm Nael, Ilay's brother. Ilay is at home," I explained to him as he also held out my hand and his gaze lingered on Delilah.
"This is Delilah, my companion."
Ryan paused for a moment and said nothing.
"We're here to help Ilay... He's about to lose it," that was the truth. Ilay was about to lose it and if we didn't find a solution, it would be the end of him.
Ryan nodded to me, "Follow me," he said and walked ahead of us into a meeting room.
"Sit down," he finally said when we arrived in the meeting room. Delilah sat down next to me while Ryan sat opposite us.
"How are you going to help Ilay?" he finally asked me, looking me in the eye scrutinisingly.
"We're questioning my father's actions and the only one who can help us is Ragnol..." I bit my lower lip while Delilah listened to us in silence.
"Are you crazy?" Ryan asked me, looking back and forth between me and Delilah.
"Do you know what the price of a visit to Ragnol is?" I practically knew, technically I was just being silly.
"No, that's why we're here. We need your help," I said to him seriously.
Ryan shook his head "I won't do that again...", Ryan muttered to himself.
"You have to," I replied, looking at Delilah.
"Why should I help you?" Ryan asked, leaning forward now.
"Do you really want to know, Ryan? Do you want me to tell you everything that Ilay instigated during this time?" I asked him and looked at Delilah "Can you wait for us in the lobby for a moment?" I asked her. Delilah nodded hesitantly and finally stood up.
When I was sure she was no longer in the room, I looked at Ryan.
"You're wondering why she looks so much like your Catherine?"
Ryan looked at me for a moment "Now that you mention it, I'm actually wondering."
"Ilay picked her up at a slave market ... And that's not all. He killed several people and forced her to shoot her mate in the courtroom. From that moment on, we took Delilah in, turns out she's the daughter of my officer who disappeared with her mate at the time and was disowned and "sold" by him."
I had to catch my breath to tell him the rest. Ilay had messed up a lot and this part was just the latest in the whole story.
"He stormed into my office yesterday and wanted her back, there was a big argument that resulted in my office being all messed up, which isn't so much the problem. The problem is that my father warned him to banish him if it goes on like this and he will die from it...", I rubbed my temples as Ryan watched me.
"Why would your father lie to you?" he finally asked me.
"I was wondering the same thing and the only thing I can think of is that if Ilay's child, the next successor after my father, after Ilay, becomes a wolf, it will cause chaos and he probably wants to prevent that..." I finally admitted, causing Ryan's eyes to widen.
"It's not written anywhere, but that's the only thought I can come up with. We're always excluded from the higher council meetings, it's only between the council and my father, so we never get all the information," I sighed and took a sip of the water Ryan had put out for me earlier.
"Delilah's only with me to keep her away from Ilay. He lost it when he saw her with me and I don't think he sees Delilah as a person, I think he sees her as Catherine."
"You're not serious?" Ryan asked me, standing up.
He walked up and down the room and looked at me. "We'd have to kill someone..how are you going to do that?" he asked.
"Delilah can't know that, she's already traumatised enough, but my men are already looking
around for a suitable candidate, it would be good if your men would help us too."
