CONTRACTLY, IT'S YOU

Chapter 7 - I THINK HE LIKES ME

My hands closed tightly around my glass. I couldn't imagine the conversation unfolding before me.

"I'm sorry, it won't ever happen again," I said, shaking a little. My knees were trembling in embarrassment, heat rushing through my cheeks.

"We are about to leave. Say your goodbyes,"

I looked sideways and noticed someone staring. My mind trailed off recognising the face. Conrad. I looked at Kai, and he pushed his hands into his pocket, walking away before I could say anything. As he walked further away, I looked at Conrad, and he slowly stepped closer.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop. Don't worry, I didn't hear a thing," his eyes accessed me with disbelief, then interest.

"If you were going to be sorry, you shouldn't have eavesdropped," I rolled my eyes, about to leave, but he caught my wrist. I turned to him unfazed.

"Are you sure you don't need a knight in shining armour?" A chuckle slipped from his lips.

"No, thank you," I was already fuming from Kai, and now, it was his brother?

I retracted my hands, glaring at him, but he took a step closer, I stood unfazed, staring straight at Jim in the eyes. Conrad Winson. He looked nothing like Kai, and it was too obvious they were stepsiblings.

"I don't know what game you and Kai are playing, but unusual for Kai to suddenly get married right after that little threat. You don't believe that too, Tiffany?" The sound of my name on his deceitful lips echoed in my ears. Silence reigned between us, and I felt a shudder course through me.

Conrad grinned with a sense of accomplishment.

I chuckled in response, staring at him, but he began to laugh, and his unexpected laugh held a remarkably pleasant allure I found captivating. Suddenly, I wondered how Kai would sound.

A careful laugh rumbled out of my throat, but that didn't last when I heard my name sliced through the air and the glass nearly slipped from my hands. I took a step backwards, swallowing and turning in the direction of the husky voice. "Kai," I spat. It was almost as if I was caught cheating. I looked at Conrad, and he brimmed with excitement.

"You know. You had a really good catch, brother. I didn't know you had a thing for strippers."

My eyes instinctively shut, embarrassment making my face red and hot.

"Tiffany," Conrad called. He walked towards me too close, whispering into my ears. "I can make life better for you, and love—"

Conrad wasn't done with his speech as Kai's fist found his face, pushing him to the ground. I took a step backwards, covering my mouth, and my eyes went wild at the realization of what was happening.

Kai rushed towards him, kicking Conrad. Another kick penetrated his abdomen, and I glanced around.

This could ruin everything for me. Their fistfight was starting to get the attention of the crowd, and I was scared of Mr. Nolan, seeing this.

"Kai? Christ, Kai!" I heard Francesca run up to him, but I grabbed his arms, stopping him from giving more punches.

"Hey, hey, it's okay, that's enough. Can we leave now?" I said, swiftly moving backwards.

"Let's go, love," Kai said, gawking at Conrad and holding my hands. "Don't you try to play a quick trick with my wife?" He warned spitefully.

My heart twitched, heat rose in my chest sharply, and I flushed immediately at the same time, trying to bury the smile that came with the excitement.

We held on to each other, walking away. I looked back at Conrad and Francesca, who held onto him. Well, thanks to him, I get to experience this side of Kai. However, they seemed utterly disappointed.

I giggled, rolling my feet on the bed while trying to be silent as I was on the phone with Noami. It was a day after his father's birthday. I know I was the reason why it must have been ruined, but there was nothing I could do. "You don't believe he did that because he was jealous. Tiffany, come on."

"I don't know. But it looked like it,"

There was silence on both ends, and I waited for her to say something.

"Hold on, why are we discussing your husband, Kai Winson? Girl, you can't remember? He is off-limits. Besides, you don't want a relationship, let alone a marriage,"

Yeah, that was true. "But, I think he likes me. It won't be bad, you know. Things could turn out well," I spat.

I couldn't believe I said that. I pressed my lips tightly, my eyes caught the time, and it was past 10. am.

"I mean, it would be more fun to have someone fall in love with me once. I don't think I love him, no. I know I don't, but it's exciting,"

"That's because it's love, sweetheart, get a grip,"

I took a deep breath, exhaling. "I want to know how he would be if he fell in love with me."

"Tiffany," That tone was a warning tone, but I was curious.

"That's because you don't think I can do it. Make the mighty billionaire fall in love with me," I laughed.

"So? What's the plan? How do you want to start?" Noami asked. I looked at my phone, smiling.

"How about a date? Or vacation, or-" I paused buried in my thoughts.

"Hold on. Conrad, his brother. Why would he want to flirt with his brother's wife?"

"Flirt?" I sat on my legs, staring at the wall of my bedroom. Goosebumps filled me as I remembered Conrad's voice. I was sure Kai didn't hear him, but what made him retaliate? "What did he say?"

"Nothing serious. There are some crazy things men say. Ugh, this is why I stay away from men, always trouble. One day, they are promising. The next they can't remember their promise, so inconsistent." "Gurl, I've got to go. Let's see this weekend, okay?" Noami said.

"Alright." I hung up. I sat on my bed, staring around. I hadn't left the room since morning, and I wondered what was going on outside.

I opened my door and jerked, screaming at the sight of Kai, staring at me.

"You are up, I thought you'd never finish your call,"

My eyes gaped. "What? You-" I swallowed, looking over my shoulder to my room.

"What was that with my brother last night?"
