Chapter IS HE MINE?
How ugly could this family dinner get? I blinked. The sight of the fish was steering something I couldn't explain.
I pushed the dish out of my face, dropping it with Conrad. I exhaled, looking up. Kai had slipped out of her hands, and he had that warning glare, I guess it wasn't equal.
He sat beside me, tossing the fish further away while he signalled for the maid.
"Please get my wife something else. She doesn't eat fish," I froze, staring at the empty plate. I had refused to raise my gaze, I didn't want to see the look on anyone's face, but I did. Everyone, including his father, looked utterly stunned, but Kate smiled.
"Oh, I'm sorry about that, Tiffany," Kate said, getting up, I watched as she got rid of the bowl of fish, handing it to the maid.
If I knew nothing about her. I would think she is as nice as she portrays herself, but I had every detail of her.
"Here, I hope you eat meat. You're not a vegetarian, right?" Her smile widened across her crimson-red lips.
I nodded, smiling even harder. "Of course, I eat meat. Thank you," I chuckled. My jaw was aching from excessive smiling.
I looked at Francesca, and she was grinning like a doll from a horror movie. I lowered my gaze to Kai, who shook his head. I guess he wasn't introducing her.
"Francesca, I appreciate you joining us today. It's lovely, why don't you have a seat?"
"Tiffany, Francesca Jones. The daughter of One's group and media. Also, Kai's fiancee before your secret marriage." Mr Nolan said.
My smile disappeared, and I blinked slowly, looming around. Here I was thinking his ex-wife was the only trouble, an ex-fiancee whom his father is rooting for. I could never surpass that.
I nodded, staring at the chicken in front of me. The Winson family carries more than I expected. Francesca walked closer to me, I could hear her lazy steps
"It's nice to meet you, Tiffany Halton, isn't it?" Francesca said, extending her hands for a shake.
I looked at her smooth hands and almost bit my lips, resisting the urge to press my lips together. I couldn't help the fact I was envious of her plum heart-shaped lips.
"I'm sorry, Tiffany Winson," I chuckled, saying.
The rest of the family didn't seem to like their name with mine, but this was me drawing a boundary. It's hard to believe that one moment I dislike answering my husband's name, and the next minute, I'm claiming it like a precious award given to me after difficult hard work.
Kai smirked. I guess he enjoyed the displeased look on his family's face.
"Tiffany Winson," Francesca retracted her hands. She darted around. "Father, when is your party going to start?"
I pinched my fingers. Mr Nolan seemed to love her more. He lets her address him that way. I glanced as she walked into the poolside to help with the part arrangements.
Thirty minutes later, the pool was filled with top billionaires, their wives who walked beside them as they introduced them, and celebrities, older and younger. There were top influencers and multi-millionaires, women and men. I felt like the least of them.
The way they carried themselves, I could never compete. However, I was the wife of the most famous billionaire. I stood at a distance watching Kai have a conversation with a man, but my gaze caught Francesca trying to butt in. My feet suddenly moved as she brushed her hands on his arms, smiling at Kai. I stopped, watching from a distance.
It wasn't my place to interrupt. I didn't know what Francesca did, but I could tell from her dressing style that she was someone of a high profile. How could I ever love a man whose ex-partners are women with class, uniqueness, and elegance? And I'm just Tiffany Halton, the stripper whom Kai Winson, the English billionaire, saved from the streets.
It was just a contract marriage. Remember your rules, Tiffany. We can't fall in love with him. I scoffed at my warning, "I hate love," I whispered, rolling my eyes, crossing my arms as I continued to watch them be so flirty.
It wasn't long before I could spot Francesca waving to me, and everyone's eyes were on me, including Kai. It felt uncomfortable, but I had no choice but to walk towards them. It was almost as if I was possessed, but my feet refused to stop moving until I was standing in front of Kai and Francesca beside him.
Francesca smiled. "I'm sure you already know Kai's wife," she said, but her hands wrapped his arms, and her sick giggles provoked me.
Mockery, she made a huge mockery of me. My fingers tightened around the glass, but her laugh bore a devilish quality.
"Tiffany Winson," she said, shrugging. I narrowed my gaze to Kai, but he had those cold glares fixed on me.
His eyes pierced through my soul. He blinked away, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking. My mind was reeling, and fearlessly, I began to walk closer to him with high adrenaline. The gap between me and Kai closed, and I darted at Francesca, who was confused and hugged. My hands wrapped around Kai's neck, and I tiptoed, spitting words I should have never said.
"I love you," I said and pressed my lips against his. He tasted like a peach with a tingling sharp alcohol. Kai's arms grazed my waist, and he suddenly pulled away, frowning at me.
He eyed me head to toe, grabbed my arms, and pulled me away without any warning. I followed with my staggering heels, walking as fast as he took me.
We arrived at an empty side of the mansion. He raised his hands, wiping his lips, and my heart shattered instantly. Did he just wipe my kiss?
"Are you insane?" He asked. I gasped in disbelief, utterly shocked by his behaviour. "You were in the presence of my business partner. What were you thinking? Is this because of Francesca?"
With each syllable carved from ice and void of emotions, his tone became colder and too harsh. "Get a grip, Tiffany,"
I gulped. The displeasure in his voice had snapped me back to reality. What was I thinking?
