Chapter 765
Sydney emerged from the bathroom after her shower, putting on her clothes one by one.
Geoffrey lay on the bed propped up on one side, smiling at her.
"Won't you stay for breakfast?"
"You can eat by yourself."
She could barely tolerate being in the same space with him, let alone eating breakfast together. She would likely end up vomiting.
Geoffrey didn't stop her.
He sat up and said, "Sydney, can you tell me why you married Wesley? You married him shortly after we broke up. Is it because of me, or is there another reason?"
After Sydney finished dressing and slung her bag over her shoulder, she turned and said coldly, "Of course it's because I love him."
Her voice carried a hint of sarcasm.
The mention of "love" made Geoffrey frown. "Impossible. I don't believe it."
"Do as you please." Sydney turned to leave.
Geoffrey suddenly got out of bed, and blocked her way.
"What do you want? Are you going to keep me here?" Sydney questioned.
"No," Geoffrey said. "I just wanted to ask if you want to see Sebastian."
The mention of Sebastian made Sydney's heart ache.
Seeing Sydney's change in expression, Geoffrey continued, "I know you have deeper feelings for Theodore since you've been with him for longer. But Sebastian is different. He..." "Enough." Sydney interrupted him. "Don't try to tell me Sebastian lacks maternal love. It's all because of you! Don't think you can manipulate me with this!"
"I admit it's my fault." Geoffrey
sighed. "But as a mother, can't you be more considerate of Sebastian? Even though there are a lot of misunderstandings between you and him, he's still your son. Don't let your prejudice caused by Rosalie affect him. They are now a couple."
"How dare you even say that? Their marriage is all part of your scheme! You and your son must have conspired to deceive her. That girl is naïve, so she fell for it."
"They are living happily together,"
Geoffrey said "I don't deny that there was deception in Sebastian and Rosalie's marriage, but Sebastian truly loves Rosalie. They are well-suited for each other All of Rosalie's suffering comes from your son, Theodore. Can't you see that?"
Sydney had no response to that. Theodore had indeed hurt Rosalie, just like his father, only regretting after losing her. He should have known better.
Geoffrey continued, "Rosalie is pregnant with Theodore's child, yet Sebastian still loves her. Isn't that love strong enough? Try switching it around. If Rosalie were carrying Sebastian's child, would Theodore still want her?" "Enough!" Sydney roared. "You don't understand Theodore. Don't slander him!"
"Fine, I won't. I don't know how Theodore would choose, but the fact remains that he divorced Rosalie for his mistress. You see clearly how Sebastian treats Rosalie. He truly loves her. Please don't separate them. Sebastian has already lost his mother's love; do you want him to lose the woman he loves too? He would go mad."
Sydney pushed him away forcefully, and left the room.
Geoffrey didn't stop her but watched her retreating figure with a cold smile on his lips. It seemed he had been right to let Sebastian marry Rosalie. Rosalie was a good tool. She could help him reconnect with Sydney.
...
Sydney drove to the hospital.
At the hospital entrance, she hesitated to go inside. She told herself she was there to see Rosalie, but the thought of Sebastian being there made her anxious. In the end, Sydney got out of the car and walked into the hospital.
She needed to tell Rosalie that Theodore was missing. Theodore hadn't heard whatever Rosalie told him last night. She couldn't let Rosalie misunderstand Theodore.
