Bound by the CEO’s Baby By Sun Scar Chapter 16

Chapter 16

Ana looked over at the doctor shoving fluid through the tube and then sucking it back out. Wynne was holding her hand tightly and her mom’s arms were wrapped tightly around her.

“It will be okay, baby,” her mom whispered into her hair as she kissed Ana’s head.

“I’m so angry. Ana,” her dad was crying. Ana had only seen her dad cry once in his life, that was when his best friend passed away, but there he was in the hard plastic chair, his hands tented on his nose and tears rolling down his cheeks.

She walked over and bent down in front of Alan Sr. “Dad, it was just an accident. I understand it could have happened at any point. We just need to be more careful, okay?”

Her father’s guilt was evident in her eyes.

“I should have been watching him more closely,” he sniffed.

“Maybe, but it is hard to keep an eye on him every second, Dad. I know that better than anyone. Maybe it is time for us to babyproof the new place more.”

“We should have thought about it before.”

“This is the first time you have lived with us for a significant amount of time, Dad. Let’s just get him better and we will figure out what needs to be done.”

Her dad nodded. A second later, all of them jumped up when the doctors stepped away from baby Alan and the nurses started pulling the tube out of him. The younger doctor approached them. He surveyed the family.

“Is he going to be okay?” Ana asked.

The doctor smiled reassuringly. “He will be fine. We took out three pills from his stomach. They were completely intact, this indicates that he didn’t start to absorb them. It’s a good thing he was brought to the hospital quickly.”

Ana looked at her dad, who looked defeated.

“He is going to be exhausted because we had to sedate him before pumping his stomach.”

Ana nodded, the words familiar.

“I would recommend a lock box for all your medicines, child locks for all cleaning supplies, and chemical substances in the house.” The doctor paused. “We actually see little ones who get curious in the ER too often. Because pills look like candy and some chemicals look like juice. Oh, children notoriously go around child locks, too.” The doctor gave a small chuckle.

The doctor wanted to keep Alan in the pediatric ward overnight, just in case. When he excused himself Wynne pulled out her phone and relayed the news to James.

When the crowd cleared, Ana kept thinking about one thing. She turned to her mother with a serious look and said one sentence that stunned her parents. “I’ve kept Alan from his family long enough. I am going to tell Damien as soon as I can. He deserves to know and to be able to have a relationship with Alan if he so wishes. I owe him that.”

Her mother nodded. “I think that is for the best.. but are you ready?”

Anastasia knew she would never be ready.

Damien was staring at James, who kept glancing at his phone.

“James, just sit down. Wynne will call as soon as she knows something.”

“I know.” James sighed. He sat down across from Damien. Damien had to laugh. James was trying really hard, but he was checking his phone as if he could somehow miss Wynne’s call.

“Hello?” James answered suddenly. The conversation was brief.

“So. Anastasia’s father, is he okay?” Damien asked.

James looked shocked. “Oh, you know of him?”

Damien shrugged. “Yes, he is okay. He had an issue with some heart medication, but everything has been sorted out. They are keeping him overnight for observation, but he should be okay.”

“That’s good,” Damien said slowly. He had a lot of work left. The next morning, when he asked for Wynne, he was met with a stone block.

“Where is she?” Damien asked James.

“She is at the hospital.”

“With Anastasia’s dad?” James looked blankly for a moment. Then he blinked a few times before locking back down at his

papers.

“Yes, she planned on checking in on him. yes.”

Damien nodded and sighed. He needed to take some notes from Wynne, but she only told him to wait at a diner near the hospital. Damien walked into the diner and was standing in line when he heard someone calling.

“Alan Reid!” they called to get his attention. When he was handed his coffee, the staff spoke politely to him. Damien looked at the man curiously and figured this must have been Anastasia’s father. But he was drinking coffee right when he was supposed to be in the hospital?

“How is your grandbaby, sir?” the server asked. “You told me you had to bring him into the hospital last night.”

“Wait. Grandbaby? But Anastasia doesn’t have any siblings.

“He is doing okay, thank you for asking. He got past the child–resistant cap on my medications. Swallowed some down before I could stop him.”

“Oh, poor boy. I am glad to hear that he is okay. Has your daughter recovered yet?”

Damien’s ears perked up. Anastasia? What happened to her? She was fine the last he saw her.

“I think you, but I don’t know if she will trust me to watch the kid by myself again.”

Damien frowned. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Anastasia had a baby. She was a mother. And things were beginning to make sense. Everyone kept speaking about how hard she had it the past few years.

“I am sure she knows it was an accident.”

The older gentleman must have come here too often to have this conversation.

“I hope so. I am heading to the mall to childproof the house.”

Alan… Alan was Anastasia’s baby. That is why James and Wynne were so upset the day before. It wasn’t Anastasia’s father who was sick, it was her child.

Damien quietly took his order and made his way to a table so that he wasn’t caught eavesdropping. As Damien watched the older gentleman leave after bidding farewell, a million questions passed through his mind.

Things had changed. Damien wanted Ana, but now she had a child. And who was the baby’s father? Her boyfriend? Damien couldn’t imagine Anastasia having a boyfriend, not after what he saw at the club. Unless it was the guy she was talking to.

But if it was him, why would he leave his girlfriend in an alley with a man he doesn’t know?

4.61%

Had Anastasia married? Maybe the child was planned and later she got divorced. But Damien didn’t want to think about a world where Anastasia would plan a family that didn’t include him.

Had he completely changed her? Is that what she meant? His thoughts were getting ridiculous and out of control and he has no answers. He needed to satisfy his curiosity so that he could have some sort of selfish claim to how she had turned out.

He forgot about his order and Wynne and went to the hospital. He had to sit her down and ask her for the truth.
