Chapter 10

“L. No…”

“Whatever Damien did before or after that night is none of my busin

Wynne bit her lip. “What are you going to do now?”

“I don’t know. Is he coming back here?”

Wynne nodded. “He will be back in a few days.”

“And what about you? What are your plans?”

and I do not want to know.”

“I am going to stick around at Wright Group and James was promoted a while back. We will just wait and see what the best option is in the long run. I am tied to Damien for now… but I don’t know about the future.”

Anastasia felt horrible. “If I never see you again, would you leave it alone?”

Wynne sat down again and put her hand on top of Anastasia’s. “Ana, please don’t run. I know I wasn’t there for you when you needed me, but that little boy is family to me. He is my nephew… my best friend’s son! And Damien. Damien is the biological father and he deserves to be a part of his life. I know you thought what you were doing was for the best, but it wasn’t. Damien needs to know.”

Ana banged her head on the table. “How do you think he will react?” she asked, her head buried in her arms. She didn’t even need to look at Wynne to know she had a worried look on her face.

“He is going to be upset… I won’t lie. It will be worse than you have imagined.”

“Then don’t make me do this. I don’t want to tell him.”

“I’m going to talk to James about this. He will have a clearer Damien best with this.”

Call of this. Maybe we can figure out how to approach

“I am still not comfortable with this,” Ana said slowly. Wynne placed, her hand on the back of her head.

“It won’t be easy, and I promise to be there for you whatever you choose. You will go her head.

Anastasia choked back a sob and she felt tears slipping down her checke saying a word. Finally, Wynne spoke up.

“Anastasia?”

She hummed in response.

They

through it. I know you will.”

like that for another half hour without

“Can I meet him?” Ana lifted her head and stared at her before nodding. “Do you want to come to our house for dinner?”

“Let me speak to my parents. They are out right now, I will give them a call in a bit and ask what their plans are?”

Wynne nodded. “I should go back home. Can I tell James?”

“He doesn’t know already?” Ana asked, incredulous.

“He saw you with a child that looks a lot like Damien, but that is about it. I didn’t say anything.”

Ana shrugged. “You can tell him. He will find out eventually. James will probably be the most understanding. I might as well start there.”

Wynne stood up and pulled her into a tight hug. “I am your family, too, Ana. We have always been. I just wish I was there for you three years ago.” Wynne squeezed Ana once before heading to the door.

Chapter 10

“Wynne?” Ana called. She turned. “Don’t tell Damien. Not yet.”

“I won’t Just… don’t run.”

Anastasia nodded and then she left.

It was only the beginning. Life as she knew it was about to change drastically… again.

Anastasia rolled out of bed on Monday just after six when Alan Jr. Started poking her face.

“Alan, really?” she groaned.

“Mama? Momma? Mommy?”

Anastasia groaned and lifted her head to look at the boy. “Yes, baby?”

“Grandma towd me to wake vo

you up.”

“Oh, she did?”

Alan nodded vehemently. “She says you have to go to an early meeting!”

Anastasia blinked. Yes, she did have a meaning scheduled the night before. Because her colleague fell ill, she was called in immediately. Ana had forgotten all about it. I’m awake,” she told the little boy.

Alan sauntered out of the room and Ana dragged herself to the bathroom, brushed her teeth, and showered quickly. Ten minutes later she was ready and seated to drink her morning coffee.

“Maa, can you watch Alan for today? I can leave him at the office from tomorrow.”

“Big or little?” her mother joked.

Ana chuckled and shook her head. “You’re going to stay with Grandma today, okay? Don’t cause a fuss.” She patted her son

on the head.

While Ana drove to the office, her phone vibrated all the way. It was on the passenger’s side of the car, so she didn’t reach over to look at it.

When she stepped out of the car, she finally picked up the call.

“Anastasia! Where have you been?” Wynne shouted.

“I was driving to work, why?”

“President Wright is in town. He came back early this morning and is attending meetings throughout the city. Please be careful and leave Alan át home.”

Ana exhaled loudly and her heart lurched up into her throat. “Are you sure? Do you know where his meetings are?” she asked in a low voice.

“He mentioned something about a ne

a new contract and then just disappeared. Where is Alan?”

“I left him home with Mom. Don’t worry.” When she hung up, she was surprisingly calm. Either that or she was in shock. She stepped into the building and then into the elevator. She was going over the meeting notes when she saw someone come in through the corner of her eye.

She finally realized that she had forgotten to press the button. A hand slid forward and pressed it for her.

“Ive got it,” a deep silky voice came from beside her.

Chapter 10

Ana didn’t have to look at him to know who it was, but the did anyway. Fear crept up her spine and must have attacked her verbal output center

“The fuck you do,” Ana growled.

“Wow, an excellent way to greet your former employer. Miss Reid She stared into his greyish green eyes for a moment before pressing another button.
