Born To Rule

Chapter 10:

Meanwhile Gunner’s office

Gunner: “One second. Come in.”

Milena: “Father.”

Gunner: “Ah, Milena, my third born. To what do I owe this visit?”

Milena: “Stop it. You know why I'm here.”

Gunner: “Straight to the point, just like your old man. Fine, have it your way. If you've come to beg me to let your little friend back into this pack, then don't waste your breath.”

Milena: “I feel like you made a rash decision on temporary feelings. I have a feeling that something else went on the night of the party. Can you please take the time to properly investigate what might have happened?”

Gunner: “Fine. But first, let me talk to your mother.”

Milena: “Thank you.”

Gunner: “Did you hear that? (Accalia’s room)”

In Accalia’s head: The one thing I realy hate about life it’s unpredictability. How can things go from good to bad in a blink of an eye. I blame myself. For being confident, for letting my guard down. I thought he cared. I guess the joke is on me…again. At first I dismissed Malik’s behavior and put it down to him having an off day. But then it happened again. So I decided to confront him.

Accalia: “Malik?”

Malik: “Why are you here?”

Accalia: “Why are you avoiding me?”

Malik: “Leave.”

Accalia: “But…”

Malik: “I said leave!!”

In Accalia’s head: Don't let him see you cry.

Accalia: “Fine!!”

In Accalia’s head: Malik has made his feelings pretty clear and to think I was actually starting to…(Malik’s shower)

In Malik’s head: I told her that I wouldn't let anyone hurt her. I'm such a hypocrite. A part of me thinks it's better this way…and yet the other part feels like I have made the biggest mistake of my life. Things can't carry on this way. I have to tell her. But what if I lose her forever. The only thought that terrifies me is not seeing that beautiful face again.

Malik: “FUCK!! (police station)”

Louise: “Sorry to disturb you, chief. This letter just arrived for you. it seems important.”

Chief: “Is that so? Thanks Louise.”

In Chief’s head: What the hell?! (Accalia’s bedroom)

In Accalia’s head: This is exactly what I needed. It's time to forget about that wolf.

Malik: “Hey, Accalia…oh, um…”

In Malik’s head: Is it hot in here?

Accalia: “GET OUT!!”

Malik: “Just hear me out, please.”

Accalia: “You have ten seconds.”

In Malik’s head: She really is angry at us.

Accalia: “I don't have all day.”

Malik: “Right. Get dressed, I'm taking you out.”

Accalia: “And why would you wanna do that?”

Malik: “Because I wanna get to know you better.”

Accalia: “You do?”

Malik: “Yes, I do. I think it would be nice to spend some time alone together.”

In Accalia’s head: Don't give in easily. He treated you like shit for days. Make him work for it.

Malik: “What do you say?”

Accalia: “Okay.”

In Accalia’s head: Damn, I’m pathetic.

Malik: “Thank you. I promise you won't regret it.”

Accalia: “Um, Malik? Do you think you can leave so I can get dressed?”

Malik’s Wolf: “I wanna stay.”

In Malik’s head: Can you please try to contain your thoughts?!

Accalia: “Uhm, Malik?”

Malik: “I'll wait for you outside.”

In Accalia’s head: What are you doing to me Malik? Why can't I say no to you? I better start getting ready. I wonder where he's taking me. (on a path in the woods)

Accalia: “I can see why you brought me here. Is this what you wanted to show me?”

Malik: “No but I do spend a lot of time out here. It's the best place to come when I need to get away and think.”

Accalia: “It's beautiful but where are we really going?”

Malik: “Come on, it's not far.”

Accalia: “We're doing what?!”

Malik: “You heard me. We're gonna be camping.”

In Accalia’s head: I'm gonna be with Malik all night? ALONE?! Come to think of it, is it really a bad thing? Definitely not. He's staring, say something you idiot.

Accalia: “Camping, hell yeah.”

In Malik’s head: She is so awkward.

Malik’s Wolf: “We're the perfect match.”

Malik: “Anyhow, fancy coming over here and settling down for the night?”

Accalia: “Sure.”

In Accalia’s head: When I peeked into the tent, I couldn't believe my eyes. Malik has always been a challenging puzzle to work out. our relationship from the very beginning has been a wild roller coaster full of emotions. However, right here in this moment, any doubt I previously had, vanished into thin air. I'm starting to think that he knows me better than I know myself. I'm a simple she wolf. I don't need expensive, flashy things to make me happy. To me, this was perfect. I could feel my cheeks becoming flushed and the tears filling my eyes. I think Malik could sense this because he instinctively wrapped his arms around my waist and embraced me as if I was his most valuable possession in the whole world.

Malik: “Please don't cry, Accalia.”

Accalia: “These are happy tears.”

Malik: “I'm guessing that means I did a good job?”

Accalia: “It's perfect, everything is perfect. I've never been happier than right now, with you.”

In Malik’s head: My stomach feels like it's in knots. Every time me and Noctis are around her, I can feel him wagging his tail and running around in circles like a lovesick puppy. I've never seen Accalia this happy before. The rays of the moon were literally beaming off of her. Like the moon goddess herself.

Malik: “Let's head inside.”

Accalia: “Okay.”

Malik: “I'm happy you like the roses.”

Accalia: “Red roses are my favorite. How did you know?”

Malik: “Let's just say that I had a feeling.”

Accalia: “Well I really appreciate it.”

In Malik’s head: Shit, I wish she would stop looking at me like that. She's making it so hard to resist her right now.

Accalia: “Why the sudden change of heart? I thought you were avoiding me.”

In Malik’s head: I knew I would have to face this question sooner or later.

Malik: “The truth is, you're right. I was avoiding you. But it's not because I don't like you. It's because I'm afraid of you.”

Accalia: “What? Why?”

Malik: “Ever since you came into my life, nothing has been simple. Everything has changed. My life was straightforward, uncomplicated and then you showed up and…I'm frustrated!! Ever since I saved you that night, it's like everything about you is slowly consuming me. You're scent, your aura, your beauty, even the sound of your voice. Me and Noctis haven't been able to sleep properly since you came. There's something about you so I avoided you because you deserve so much better than me.”

Accalia: “Shouldn't that be my decision to make?”

Malik: “Come on, Accalia. You know we're not mates.”

Accalia: “And why is that?”

Malik: “Because someone is pure as you could never be mated to someone like me.”

Accalia: “I think you of all wolves would know that I'm not pure.”

Malik: “You're not even old enough to release your full scent yet.”

Accalia: “You've been masking your scent ever since I got here. Why?”

Malik: “That's where you're wrong. I've actually unmasked my scent twice while you've been around and nothing happened.”

In Accalia’s head: Twice? Wait a second?! (flashback outside Malik’s room). There doesn't seem to be anyone around. What is that incredible smell? Like burning oak and vanilla, all wrapped into one. (at the club). If someone told me two weeks ago that this would be my new life, I would have thought they were mad. Here I am, dancing as if I don't have a care in the world. The music’s sweet melody has made my reality melt away to the point that nothing else matters. Musky and strong, like burning oak mixed with vanilla. My senses became overloaded by this intoxicating scent. Malik. (present time). Is Malik my…

Accalia: “Malik, I think you're…”

Malik: “Can we talk about this another time? I brought you here to get to know you better.”

Accalia: “Okay.”

Malik: “Go on, ask me a question.”

Accalia: “How old are you and when is your birthday?”

Malik: “I'll be turning twenty four on the 5th of july. You?”

In Accalia’s head: So he's twenty three.

Accalia: “I'm twenty, my birthday is in may.”

Malik: “That's not long. Did you have anything specific in mind you wanted to do?”

Accalia: “Not since being banished by my old pack, no.”

Malik: “What about your parents? Surely they'd wanna see you.”

Accalia: “My parents died when I was young.”

Malik: “I'm sorry, I don't know my dad either.”

In Accalia’s head: I know.

Malik: “Anyway, enough of that. Let's talk about something else.”

In Accalia’s head: Malik and I talked and laughed until the early hours of the morning. I feel more connected to him than ever before. This was easily the best night of my life.

In Malik’s head: Goodnight, Accalia. (Accalia’s dream)

Accalia: “THE HELL?! Isn't this my old bathroom?! What happened to the broken glass?!”

Unknown: “Hello, Accalia.”

Accalia: “Who are you?! And why do you look like me?!”

Unknown: “Not exactly. Let's just say that I know you very well. Now listen closely, you'll be seeing me very soon. Stay out of trouble until then. Stay vigilant and trust no one. Understand?”

Accalia: “You can't tell me all of this and expect me to follow your orders. I won't ask again. Who you are and what do you want?!”

Unknown: “Goodbye, Accalia.”
