Chapter 11:
In Accalia’s head: I think it's safe to say that me and Malik have truly gotten over our little feud. For the past few weeks, we've been spending most of our time together.
Accalia: “Can I open my eyes now?”
Malik: “You can open them.”
Accalia: “I love it!! Thank you.”
In Accalia’s head: Turns out that underneath that tough wolf exterior, is a huge softy who keeps surprising me at every opportunity he gets.
Kai: “OH MY GOD!! He's so cute, can I pet him?”
Lynn: “Sorry kid, but Benji isn't that great with strangers.”
Kai: “Nonsense, all animals love me.”
Lynn: “But…”
Kai: “Hi Benji. May I pet you? AHHHH!! SIT!! DOWN BOY!!”
Lynn: “I TRIED TO WARN YOU!! Don't you hurt him!!”
In Accalia’s head: Some people believe that everything in life ‘happens for a reason’. I would like to believe that all of the moments in my life; whether they were good or bad, have led me down this exact path. A pathway to him.
Malik: “Are you sure you can handle a horror movie, little wolf?”
Accalia: “There are a lot of things I can handle.”
In Malik’s head: She is so bold lately, I love it.
Becca: “Can I help you?”
Accalia: “Sorry about that. Two please.”
In Accalia’s head: It's crazy how similar we are. Even something as simple as going to the movies made us happy. We were never allowed to enjoy places like this at my old pack house. It really is true when people tell you to enjoy the little things. Little by little, it felt like my old life was slowly fading away. I finally felt free. I felt safe. Free to be myself and not live up to someone Elsa's high expectations of perfection. I found a genuine love with everyone here.
Rose: “I would like to make a toast too Accalia. Welcome to the Duskfall Pack.”
In Accalia’s head: I was home. It was official, I was now part of a new pack. That should've been one of my happiest moments of my life…but it wasn't. I wish I could ignore what was going on in my head but I can't. Who was that girl? Why can I hear voices? Why do I black out? I needed answers. I needed the truth. (in the library). It's pretty crowded in here. This library is huge. It feels like I have been searching around for ages. Wait…what's this? Mythology. Sounds promising. This will do. I know it seems silly. Trying to find the answers to my problems located within a book but at this point I was desperate. I've only just became a member of the Duskfall Pack. The last thing I wanted was to burden them with my drama. Besides coming they might think I'm crazy and I wouldn't blame them. Maybe, just maybe, my symptoms have been seen or documented before. Ugh, nothing yet but I have to keep trying. Hmm, ‘Human folklore on legendary creatures’. What?! (in the woods)
Accalia: “Hello?”
In Accalia’s head: I'm losing my mind. I thought coming here would make me feel better, but it doesn't. What am I gonna do?
Rose: “I had a feeling I would find you here.”
Accalia: “Hi, luna Rose. Not to sound rude but how did you know I would be here?”
Rose: “This is where I like to come when I need to clear my head. Is everything okay?”
Accalia: “I-I…”
In Accalia’s head: I can't tell her.
Accalia: “It's nothing, honestly. I guess I'm just nervous for my birthday.”
Rose’s Wolf: “She's lying.”
In Rose’s head: I know, Athena but let's not pry and scare her away. Accalia will come to us when she's ready.
Rose’s Wolf: “I hope you're right.”
Rose: “Accalia, when is your birthday?”
Accalia: “My birthday is tomorrow. Uhm, luna Rose?”
Rose: “I HAVE TO PREPARE!!”
Accalia: “I don't wanna make a huge fuss about it, luna Rose!!”
In Accalia’s head: She cracks me up. (later that night). As soon as I arrived home, I went straight to sleep. Sleeping gave me the opportunity to escape reality through my dreams. Everything was simple, easy. If only my life could be like that. (knocking). Please, no. (more knocking). Why does the world hate me?!
Accalia: “Come in!!”
In Accalia’s head: This had better been worth it. Oh my…ABS!! Yeah, definitely worth it.
Malik: “Did you forget that my face is up here, little wolf?”
In Accalia’s head: Was I that obvious?”
Accalia: “Sorry about that.”
Malik: “As much as I love your attention, I've actually come here to take you somewhere.”
Accalia: “Really? Where are we going?”
Malik: “Get changed into a bikini and you'll see. And on that note, I'll wait for you outside before you can talk your way out of it.”
In Accalia’s head: A bikini? What have you got planned, Malik?
Accalia: “I didn't know you guys owned a jacuzzi.”
Malik: “It's one of my most favorite rooms in the house.”
Accalia: “I can see why.”
In Malik’s head: She looks so good.
In Accalia’s head: He looks so good.
Malik: “So, Accalia…do you like living here?”
Malik’s Wolf: “Why must you make it so awkward?”
In Malik’s head: Oh shut up.
Accalia: “I love it here. I finally feel like I've found a home.”
In Malik’s head: She feels like she's home? As soon as those words left Accalia’s mouth, I could feel Noctis wagging his tail like crazy. Accalia’s the only wolf that could make us feel this way and because of her, I feel like I'm finally home as well.
Malik: “So I heard it's your birthday tomorrow. Are you excited?”
Accalia: “To be honest, I'm not really fussed about it. It's just another day.”
Malik: “You're wrong, it's not just another day. It'll probably be the most important day of your life. You can find your mate.”
In Accalia’s head: You're my mate.
Accalia: “Malik, why haven't you found your mate yet?”
Malik: “Because the moon goddess would never pair me up with anyone.”
Accalia: “Why would you think so little of yourself?”
Malik: “I don't think. I know.”
Accalia: “Every wolf deserves to find their mate.”
Malik: “Good thing I'm not everyone then.”
Accalia: “Since we're having this conversation. I have another question to ask you.”
Malik: “What is it?”
In Accalia’s head: What does it feel like he's gone cold all of a sudden? But I need to ask.
Accalia: “Where do you go when you disappear for hours? Malik?”
Malik: “What do you mean?”
Accalia: “Please don't be angry, I'm just worried about you. I first noticed it when we met and then it progressively got worse. Some nights you don't come home. I thought I was over exaggerating the situation until your mother confirmed my suspicions. The point I'm trying to make is if you're going through something then I want you to know that I'm here for you. You don't need to keep running away.”
Malik: “Are you finished?”
Accalia: “Yes?”
Malik: “Good. (Malik leaves)”
In Accalia’s head: What just happened?! (in the hallway)
Accalia: “Oh, hey Lakota. If you’re looking for Malik, then he's not here. I don't know where he went. Why don't you talk, Lakota? I have to find him!! MALIK?!”
In Accalia’s head: Come on Accalia, think. Where could he be? Where are you?! I feel exhausted but I have to keep going. Is that blood?!
Accalia: “MALIK?! MALIKK!! MALIK?!”
In Accalia’s head: I couldn't do anything but break down and cry. Where was he? Was he safe? Where did that fresh blood come from? I felt sick with worry. I longed for nothing more than to be held in his embrace. For him to tell me that everything was gonna be okay. My gaze was instinctively drawn to the starry night sky above. I've never seen the moon so bright and large before. The moon goddess truly was beautiful. second slater, the heavens opened up.
Malik: “Accalia?!”
Accalia: “MALIK!! I'm so relieved to see you. Malik?”
In Accalia’s head: That's when I saw them. Malik was covered in deep cuts and blood. The thought of him being in pain broke my heart. Whoever did this, I wanted to rip their throat out.
Accalia: “Who did this to you?! I thought I hadn't lost you.”
Malik: “You could never lose me.”
In Accalia's head: This moment felt surreal. I was back in the arms of the person that I cared for the most. Nothing had ever felt so good as being held by him. My muscles instantly relaxed from his touch and I let out a small sign and relief. Every smile, even every stare sent electricity coursing through my veins. How could one being consume me this much? This wolf was now in charge of my heart. He had the power to give me happiness and never experienced and at the same time…rip it away. I was at his mercy and he was at mine. The thought terrified me and yet filled me with excitement at the same time. I could've stayed in this moment with him forever. It took all my strength to break away.
Accalia: “Malik…wait. Whose blood is that?”
Malik: “From a human I just killed.”
Accalia: “You did what?!”
Malik: “See, this is why I never wanted to tell you. I knew it would change everything between us. I knew you would hate me.”
Accalia: “I could never hate you. I actually have strong feelings for you.”
Malik: “Do you wanna know how I got these cuts? The human I killed, she did this to me…she clawed and screamed as she begged for her life but I killed her anyway.”
Accalia: “Malik, look at me. I know you and I know your heart. You're not evil, you need help.”
Malik: “Stop excusing my behavior!! I've killed before…many times. I'm a monster and that's why I don't deserve a mate. That's why I don't deserve you.”
Accalia: “Malik…I know what you are.”
Malik: “How did you find out?! How long have you known?!”
Accalia: “Since this morning. I went to the library to find answers about myself and that's when I found a section about ‘human folklore on legendary creatures’. Everything peace together.”
Malik: “You know what I am and what I do? Aren't you scared?”
Accalia: “Far from it.”
In Malik’s head: Thank God.
Accalia: “I do have one request.”
Malik: “And what is that?”
Accalia: “I wanna meet your wolf. I wanna meet Noctis.”
Malik: “Accalia, I don't think right now is the…”
Malik’s Wolf: “It's okay.”
In Malik’s head: Are you sure?”
Malik’s Wolf: “Yes.”
Malik: “Okay, Accalia. But just remember, you asked for this.”
In Accalia’s head: I don't know what came over me. I reacted purely on an impulse. I guess I just wanted to see the ‘monster’ Malik claimed he was. I watched as he made his way over to an opening in the middle of the forest. He must've been nervous because he took a moment to look back at me; maybe for approval? I smile and nodded, hoping it would give him the reassurance he clearly seeked. He returned my smile and then turned back to look up at the night sky. Then…Malik shifted in a blink of an eye. I've never witnessed a wolf capable of shifting so fast. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Malik’s wolf was huge however, one feature still remains the same. Those piercing eye; like two pools of honey. The moon shined down directly on his fur, illuminating all the gray hidden beneath his rich, black coat. Noctis was no monster. He was beautiful. Those orange eyes stared intensely into mine and I knew…I knew that Noctis was my protector. according to inuit mythology…there are tails that have been passed down for centuries about a gigantic, dark wolf that stalk and devour any person foolish enough to wander alone at night. And those tales were true. Malik was an Amarok Wolf.
