Chapter 7
LORYS
I had to admit defeat, because I fell backwards to the ground while Leonardo held the sword to my throat with a grin.
"Come on, say it..." he demanded, grinning as wide as a pie horse.
I rolled my eyes "Fine, if that's what you want to hear. You, my beta, Leonardo won this fight... but only because you're my beta," I replied, to which he laughed.
He looked towards the rose garden and held out his hand to me: "What was it that distracted you?" he asked, confused.
What distracted me? If Leonardo knew that I had developed a fucking weakness for peaches, he would laugh his ass off and rub it in my face every time. It would come to that.
"I thought I'd seen something, but I was wrong," I replied and stood up.
I had indeed seen something, and what I had seen was enchantingly beautiful. I had seen a woman sitting on a bench with a book in her hand... No, right? Peaches...
Damn, I was angry again. Surely that couldn't be? I had seen her, hadn't I? I looked into the garden again and paused. There was actually no one there and, as quickly as I had rushed, I hadn't had time to take a closer look at the person.
All I could say was that she looked attractive, her hair was tied back and fell over her shoulders, a strand hanging in her face.
She was wearing a dress like any other maid. Her full breasts were visible right up to her cleavage, probably attracting any man to look at her.
LORYS... I admonished myself and thought of the diary again. I thought about the diary again and felt like someone had punched me in the pit of the stomach. That fucking asshole.
I closed my eyes and huffed angrily while Leonardo looked at me in confusion. No wonder, what man would go insane at the thought of a stranger he didn't even know and felt like killing for.
"Lorys, I can feel something going on inside you... You know you can talk to me," he said, smiling at me.
I shook my head and sighed "It's nothing... Really," I insisted, not wanting to look like a laughing stock in front of him.
He rolled his eyes "You'll be coming to me begging for help in three days at the latest," he said with a grin, to which I shook my head.
"It's nothing I can't sort out myself," I replied, running my fingers through my sweaty hair.
I straightened up and nodded to him: "Let's not talk so much, after all, you still need to get tired so you can sleep later." I grinned playfully at him again and pointed my sword at him.
Leonardo struck the first blow, which I blocked. But my thoughts were on the peaches... and the woman.
I had to intercept this maid tomorrow, if it was the last thing I did tomorrow.
After several hours of training, we were both at the end of our tether and I wasn't going to let him win a second time.
I took off my helmet and sat down on the grass. "I'm done for the day," Leonardo groaned and sat down next to me.
I wiped the sweat from my forehead and looked at him with a grin: "We'll continue training tomorrow. Let's go inside, otherwise we'll miss dinner," I said and he shook his head with a laugh.
"I can't stand up anymore... I'm already sitting down," he laughed and looked up at the sky. Night was falling and the stars were slowly appearing in the clear night sky. A few minutes later, we managed to get up and go into the house.
Leonardo went to his room while I ran to mine, where a bathtub filled with water was already waiting for me. Two maids had prepared everything and after I had undressed, I got into the bath. I didn't mind being seen naked. It was normal for wolves to be naked.
I enjoyed the warm water on my body and moaned softly as I rested my neck on my head.
"You can go," I said to them.
They disappeared through the door and I was alone.
The scent of peaches still lingered in the room and now the rattling started again. Everything seemed so illogical, so cursed.
And now I had an image that matched the smell, the image of a beautiful woman...
I closed my eyes and enjoyed the warm water on me.
Those lips appeared to me, smiling and watching me intently... those doe eyes... and peaches for crying out loud.
I opened my eyes and looked around. Damn, I had become rock hard with thought, connecting a dead woman's diary with a living maid who had nothing to do with it.
I was clearly possessed by the devil, there was no other explanation.
After washing myself, I quickly got out of the bath, dried myself with a towel and went to the closet. I put on a pair of pants and a fresh shirt, and then I put on the royal robe that I could no longer stand. I understood that women wore dresses, but us men? I had to change that as soon as possible. All my clothes were made of expensive fabric, tailor-made.
My tailor called it fashion and made me all sorts of things.
I walked down the long corridor to the dining room, again everyone was waiting for me.
I looked at them all with raised eyebrows: "I wish you all a good appetite, from today, and I have just decided this, you will no longer wait for me if I am late, is that clear to everyone?" It wasn't a question, it was an order.
"B-but," Magnus began with a frown and looked at me in astonishment.
"But what?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"But it's been a tradition for years..." he began to contradict.
I had to smile and shook my head. "From today onwards, this tradition will also be suspended for you, Magnus," I said again and sat down.
Leonardo looked at me, frowning, then looked around: "You've heard, dig in," he said and began to eat himself.
I had to grin, because Leonardo was ready for anything. Magnus, on the other hand, looked annoyed. Magnus didn't dare say anything more and started eating too. I sighed softly and looked around as I began to eat too.
The second course was served, but I couldn't recognize the woman I had seen in the rose garden among all the women, it was almost eerie.
"Your food is getting cold," Leonardo said, looking at me. I looked at the food and sighed softly as I started to poke around in it.
"I'm really starting to worry about you," he whispered softly, looking at me with amusement. Oh yes, I was worried too and I had a feeling that Bora was probably coming to haunt me because I had let her down. Yes, that was a plausible explanation.
After dessert, we sat for a while with the other men in the large salon and drank wine.
The wine distracted me a little from everything and allowed me to calm down. Let me correct that: it calmed my thoughts, because I really wanted to continue reading the diary. I bit my lower lip and stood up.
"Where are you going?" Leonardo asked me.
"I'm tired, we have to get up early in the morning," I replied, to which he rolled his eyes.
"He's right, you've been disappearing a lot lately," James said, rolling his eyes as he sipped his wine.
"The women from the Blue Moon look pretty hot," he began and grinned at Leonardo.
He nodded slightly and bit his lower lip: "The redhead who served me dinner tonight left me speechless," Leonardo replied and grinned as well.
"Then you should have seen the blonde, she'll be writing me a poem soon," James said and laughed along with Leonardo.
"Too bad she wasn't there as a mate, she looked very pretty too..." James sighed and ran his fingers over his beard.
"I even lent her my fountain pen," he and Leonardo suddenly both laughed, while I paused and thought. The blonde... The woman I'd seen was quite dark blonde, almost brunette, but blonde. Does she write poetry? Or maybe diaries?
"Let me guess, she wanted a book from you too?" I asked, pretending to be amused. But I wasn't.
Suddenly James nodded: "Wow, you're good, she actually wanted a notebook from me," he laughed and Leonardo joined in. I just smiled, trying not to go crazy.
I remembered too well that the woman I had seen in the rose garden had been holding something similar. Okay, now James was on board and confirming other things for me.
Suddenly Leonardo chuckled, "I could bet she was the reason for your distraction, Lorys. You're so into blondes, tell me James, do you know her name?" he asked him with a grin as I rolled my eyes, "I'm into pretty women, I've never denied that, but I'm still waiting for my mate, as you know."
"She actually told me her name, but I've forgotten it.... Rora, Rory... Something with an R, something. Your Little Red Riding Hood has been calling her Princess all this time, while she insisted on not calling her that," James said with a grin.
"I've been watching her all day," he added.
Rora, Rory, but Bora? Something about R... He claimed. That couldn't be, what I wanted to hear was a clear B.
And Princess? Was she making fun of them? Question mark, question mark and question mark again, or had Little Red Riding Hood found out who she was? I remember a passage describing a maid who had hugged her. Were they friends?
"Lorys? You're lost in thought, are you really all right?" asked Leonardo.
"If you ask me again, you'll be the next one with a rolling head," I muttered angrily to myself and stood up.
"Right, I'm going to sleep now, see you tomorrow," I said as I walked out, I could hear James and Leonardo giggling.
I would catch them tomorrow, end of story. I would literally put them through the wringer.
