Chapter 8
LORYS
What was the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the evil wolf again? The bad wolf pretended to be Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother and eventually tried to eat Little Red Riding Hood too. As the hunter passed the cottage, he heard the wolf's deep snoring and decided to sneak in. When he saw Little Red Riding Hood's coat, he knew what was going on and freed Little Red Riding Hood from the wolf's belly and placed heavy stones inside. When the wolf got up again, he fell over and succumbed to his injuries.
That was more or less the story.
Today I played the big bad wolf in my story and waited for the maids to come into the room to do their daily chores. There wasn't a hunter in the world who could save them.
The only one who came was Little Red Riding Hood, at least that's what Leonardo had called her.
I frowned when I saw her. I had already got up and was sitting in my chair as usual, my diary in my hands, which I was reading. Work could wait.
"Good morning Alpha," she said, stopping short. Good morning," I yawned and put my hand over my mouth.
"Aren't there usually two of you?" I asked her casually, watching her make up the bed.
"Actually, yes, but they need help getting ready for the ball," she replied, smoothing out the comforter.
Damn it, not again... My patience was hanging by a thread, and soon I'd be looking for her myself.
People would probably think I was crazy, but I didn't care.
You're new here, from the Blue Moon," I stated, to which she nodded, "Yes, Alpha," she replied, looking at me.
"As for you, I'm really sorry about all the circumstances, but there was no other way," I explained to her in reference to the battle, to which she just nodded.
"Was your Alpha married?" I asked her, to which she shook her head "No, Alpha - he wanted to get married, but his fiancée fled before the battle began..." she explained to me, looking down at the ground in embarrassment.
"Wasn't that his mate?" I asked her, acting surprised.
She shook her head: "No, Alpha."
Her answers were always short and sweet, and I had to pry all the questions out of her.
"What was her name and where did she come from?", I asked her as she looked at me and saw the diary in my hands.
"Bora... was her name, I'm afraid that's all I know. Alpha Gabriel always forbade us to ask," she said, looking down.
Oh Little Redcap, you're lying... Apparently you don't want to tell me who your friend is, you want to protect her.
"Do you know where she is?" I asked her, to which she shook her head again.
"No, Alpha," she said and let me run off into space again.
MARGA
I panicked inside, but I tried to stay calm. I knew what Bora had been through, and there was no way I was going to let anything happen to her again.
She had told me that she was planning to get out of here and I joined her. There was nothing that could have kept us here.
After I met Bora on the first day we arrived here in the pack, she told me that she had tried to convince the nurse who she was, but they didn't believe her.
From that day on, Bora made it clear that she didn't want to attract attention, as she wasn't sure about Gabriel either, whether he had actually died.
What do friends do best? They protect each other, even if it means I have to lie to an Alpha. I allowed myself to lie to the Alpha's face because we both had nothing left to lose.
Bora had never thought of Gabriel as her fiancé, so I wasn't entirely wrong. She wasn't his fiancée and we all knew Bora had died on the run.
Now I had to be even more careful what I called Bora, because it seemed like he was reading her diary. When I saw it in his hands, I understood why he was asking me such strange questions.
Luckily, Bora had told me it was her diary.
Well, be that as it may. I looked at the Alpha, who sighed.
He didn't say anything else as he turned his gaze to the journal and I hurried to get my work done.
"Do you need anything else, Alpha?" I asked him, to which he shook his head and I ran out of the room. Would it be obvious to go to Bora? Absolutely.
I decided to finish my work so that I could go into the room later without attracting attention.
I pondered and wondered what Bora might have written to pique the Alpha's interest.
I asked myself this question all day and finally it was dinnertime.
I was walking to the dining room when I saw Linda, but Bora was nowhere to be seen.
"Hello Linda, how are you getting on with the preparations?" I asked her kindly and helped her set the table.
"Oh dear, your friend is doing a wonderful job. It's never gone so well," she told me cheerfully and asked me to take a seat.
"I'm glad, have you seen her?" I asked her and she nodded. "Her bleeding had started... She went to wash up to put on new clothes," Linda explained to me, to which I just nodded. Before we started eating, more servants arrived.
I was sipping my soup when the alpha suddenly entered the room and looked around. I guessed who he was looking for because his gaze lingered on me while we all bowed our heads and only Linda stood up to greet him.
"Alpha, what an honor... Would you like to join us? You weren't here for lunch earlier," she said, to which he nodded and took Bora's seat.
"That's why I'm here, I didn't make it to lunch earlier. Lots of tasks are taking up my time at the moment," he explained and began to eat while he watched me eat inconspicuously.
I was really uncomfortable now and almost felt like I'd done something wrong. I could only pray that Bora would take his time with the washing up.
"How are the preparations going?" he asked Linda, who nodded. "It's a challenging task, but the ladies have it under control...". If it wasn't for Marga and her friend, we wouldn't have a theme for the event yet," said Linda, and my knees buckled.
Dear moon goddess... help me. I'm too young to die... I want to meet my mate first.
"Oh yeah, girlfriend? Who's the girlfriend?" he asked with a raised eyebrow, looking around among the servants.
"Oh, Aurora... she wasn't feeling well, she'll join us later," Linda explained with a smile as she continued to spoon up her soup.
Did Linda have a naming problem? Bora and Aurora, that was a big difference... Maybe I'll call Bora Aurora in the future until we can get out of here.
The Alpha looked at me now, but didn't say anything and continued eating.
Linda had just saved my ass, because if she had said Bora, I would have been at the mercy of the bare knife.
"I'm glad everything's all right," he finally said and when he'd finished, he gave me another appraising look, "Thanks for the flowers," he mumbled to himself and disappeared through the door again.
I blushed with embarrassment and didn't know what to say; after all, it had been Bora's idea to put them in his room.
We cleaned up when Bora still wasn't there.
"I'll go and check on her, maybe she's not feeling well..." I said to Linda, who nodded "You do that, I'll see you later, my dear", she replied and went about her business.
I ran up the stairs and made my way to our room. "Bora?" I looked around and found her lying on the bed.
"Are you okay?" I asked her and looked at her. She shook her head "Stomach ache," she croaked, lying on the bed all cramped up.
"Shall I make you a tea with vervain? It's supposed to have an antispasmodic effect," I explained to her and she nodded, "I'd love to," she whispered in pain and I made my way into the garden. I was met at the front door by a large wolf who looked at me with raised eyebrows and crossed arms "Where are you going?" he asked me.
"I need vervain for a tea," I said to him, to which he rolled his eyes "You spoil the alpha a lot," he said amusedly, to which I shook my head with a smile "This is for my girlfriend," I explained to him and he nodded and held the door open for me.
I ran into the garden and looked for verbena when I finally found it and picked it.
I ran into the kitchen with it, made hot water and took it to Bora.
I ran into her room and sat down next to her. "Here," I said to her as she sat down next to me.
"Thank you," she said and took the cup.
"We have a little problem," I whispered quietly, as if the walls had ears.
Bora looked at me, frowning.
"The Alpha asked me about Gabriel today... and about you. He wanted to know where you were when I told him I didn't know."
She widened her eyes and looked at me in shock "He did?"
I nodded hastily before she could finish her sentence.
"He was holding it when I came into the room," I whispered quietly.
"Linda accidentally called you Aurora today. I thought it wise not to call you Bora, but Aurora ... Until we're out of here." I said to her and she nodded slowly.
"Maybe..." she whispered softly and looked at me.
"I'm a dead she-wolf if he finds out..." I whispered softly, playing nervously with my fingers.
Bora shook her head "I would never betray you..." she smiled at me and held me by the shoulder.
"You're a sister to me," she replied, making me blossom inside.
"You too, Aurora," I said quietly, to which we giggled and Bora sipped her tea.
"The time is coming soon... We'll be out of here in a few days," Bora said and I nodded.
"Do you want to go back to your pack?" I asked her anxiously and she nodded.
"Yes, I do, but I need to make sure we get away from here ... I don't want to expose myself to the risk of being negotiated over my head again," she said.
That's understandable, because what happened was really sad ... I always found her sad when I went into her room. Since we've been in the Circle pack, she's blossomed a bit.
Now it was time to persevere.
