Chapter Chapter Twenty-Five
The kiss had only lasted seconds before R had turned on me. He had pulled back from our kiss and given me a strange look. My lips had parted to ask what was wrong, but he had moved too quickly. His fangs plunged into my chest. I could feel him drinking quickly as I was getting light headed.
"Reginald, no!" Dee shouted. He had rushed inside the cage. His teeth had latched onto R's shoulder and clamped down. R had pulled his fangs out of my skin long enough to howl in pain and attempt to grab Dee. The sudden release of his teeth caused me to scream out in pain.
"You bastard! You dare keep me from a meal?" R had finally got a grip on Dee and tossed him across the room as if he weighed next to nothing.
I laid on the ground next to R, still bleeding when a door had slammed opened.
"What do we have here?" Aldrich had floated through the entry way. Several Guards had flew past him, guns pointed towards us. Aldrich took a long pause to examine the room. "A blood whore got you this wound up Reginald?" He chuckled. He had noticed me lying on the floor and a smirk had landed on his grotesque face.
R scoffed. "On the contrary, I am myself again." R broke from from the ropes that confined him to the chair and stood up. He took a minute to stretch before resuming the conversation.
"I was in the middle of my feeding when they interrupted me." R pointed to Dee, who laid on the ground like a crumpled up piece of paper.
"Ahh...How unfortunate. Allow me to take this animal and give you a proper meal?" Aldrich had stepped inside the cage and grabbed me by my hair and lifted my head slightly off the floor.
He pulled the rest of my body up off the floor, only to grab me by the neck. The strength of his grip around my neck crushed my windpipe. I struggled to breathe.
"I wasn't finished with her." R growled. His face dripping with my blood.
Aldrich sighed, "I can give you much better quality?" R took a step towards us, "I can give you as many humans as you desire?" He was trying to barter, but R took another step.
Aldrich lightened the grip on my neck and took a step back. I could tell he was scared of R, but why?
R was not going to take anything that the Elder offered. He started to walk slowly towards us.
"I want that blood..." R growled. It allowed for my blood to escape from between his teeth. His eyes were dark red and muscles pulsating as he came towards us. He looked terrifying.
Aldrich had snapped his finger, alerting the Guards to attack. R flung them back as they came at him. He barely had to use any strength to do so. He kept his eyes locked on Aldrich the entire time.
"...Give her to me." R murmured as he quickly made his way through the Guards. Aldrich continued to step back, almost backing into the wall.
R finally lunged towards Aldrich. His teeth extended and ready to pierce grey flesh. Aldrich had released me just in time to sing his claws into R's sides.
Lee and Martin raced to pull me from under the two. They dragged me to the chair that they had tied R to.
I watched as R and the Elder fought each other, ripping flesh off the other.
"We need to grab Dee and get the hell out of here. Let these two battle it out." Lee placed a hand on my shoulder, pulling back my hair to inspect the wound that was still bleeding.
Martin ran back and pulled Dee to his feet. He swung Dee's arm over his shoulder and propped him up, sharing glances between the fight and us.
Lee helped me up from the chair and we met with Martin and Dee at the door. I looked back at R, his face covered in his own blood.
"...Mine" R mouthed as we locked eyes. I felt like a piece of him had to remember me, but it was too late. We had to leave him behind.
We had escaped without being seen, but we had no where to go.
"Where are we going to go?" My voice cracked as I limped down the hall. No one had an answer for me.
"The caves?" Lee suggested. "We hide out until we know it's safe."
We all shrugged, there was no other options.
We followed Lee down past all the newly built portions of the building and entered a completely new part of the island. A more outdated and run down version of the halls we had just left.
"The Island has been owned by Aldrich for centuries. This is the oldest part of the island. This is what the building looked like before he stomped it down and built right over it."
"Will R be able to find us down here?" I asked bluntly. Lee looked back at me. I took that as a no.
We continued to walk further down the dingy halls, but Lee was right. Every single turn was an exact blue print of the twists and turns above us.
"I need to take a break." I stopped at would've been the library, but the room in front of me was nothing but turned over shelves and a few water logged tables and chairs.
"Christi, we can't wait for long." Dee said as climbed over debris. He looked over at me. His face was filled with grief.
The library was filled with ankle length water in some places. The once cataloged books had turned into a soggy mush on the ground. Beautiful pictures once hung on the walls, but had left a shadow. A small part of me had hoped someone had the decency to save them from the salty air. The old library was silent except from the occasional drip from the ceiling.
"Quiet, someone's coming."
