Chapter 41
Chapter 41
After Barron Hawk and Tracy Yost left, William, Vanessa, and Danny continued their lunch.
Just then, Vanessa’s cell phone rang.
It was a text message notification.
Vanessa looked at her screen; it was from an unknown number.
However, the content was familiar.
“Vanessa, let bygones be bygones. If you think that I hurt you, I apologize sincerely. I’m sorry! Please don’t provoke Elena. I hope there won’t be any conflict between you two after Keen Darcy’s video.”
Without a doubt, it was from Jackson Foster.
Vanessa tightened her hand on her cell phone while trembling uncontrollably.
She became angry and aggrieved.
She gritted her teeth and bit her lips to hold back her tears.
Vanessa felt wronged.
Jackson had no right to make such demands of her.
She felt pain when she breathed as if a giant hand clenched her heart; the torment was unbearable.
“What’s wrong?” William Hawk noticed Vanessa’s face change and asked with concern.
His gentle voice pulled Vanessa back from the dark vortex. She took a deep breath and pursed her lips. “I’m fine.”
She warned herself silently.
“Vanessa Sanchez, are you for real? What happened three years ago is over and done with. Why do you still care about what he says? Why do you still care, huh?”
She quickly blocked the unknown number, never wanting to hear from Jackson again.
Vanessa decided to get a new phone number later and start a new life.
She did not change her number all these years, not because she wanted Jackson back. She did not want to reconcile with him; she only awaited his apology.
Now that she thought about it, it was ridiculously naive of her.
They had already broken up, so what was the point of apologizing?
Her cell phone rang again.
Vanessa’s face darkened, burning with anger.
Her anger dissipated when she saw that it was her best friend, Charlotte, calling. She exhaled and picked up the phone. ” Charlotte.”
Charlotte sounded weak on the other end of the phone, “Silly Doe, I can’t come over today. I have a slight fever. I’ll rest at home for a few days.”
“What? A fever? Did you see a doctor?” Vanessa asked with concern.
“Don’t worry. It’s just a slight fever. I have some medicine. I’ll go home so my mother can care for me for a few days.” “What’s the temperature? Did you take your temperature?” Vanessa was worried.
Charlotte smiled. “99 degrees.”
In fact, her fever was over 103, and her mouth felt extremely dry.
Charlotte initially thought she had a hangover from last night. She later realized she had a high fever after taking her temperature,
When Vanessa heard it was under 100 degrees, she felt more at ease. She reminded Charlotte, “Don’t stay in the rental house alone, you hear? Go home and let your mother care for you in case the fever goes up.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of myself. I’m going home to freeload and get my mother to cook a feast for me,” Charlotte said jokingly.
“Yes, that’s good” Vanessa was relieved.
She feared that Charlotte would insist on staying in the rental house alone.
“By the way, Silly Doe, let’s register for the Emerald Cup competition. The registration deadline is at the end of this month.”
Phapter.
Charlotte struggled to get out of bed in her winter pajamas and poured herself a glass of warm water in the simple rented house.
There was a fever patch on her head, and she looked haggard.
She was sick and did not want to worry her mother.
She thought of getting through it on her own, knowing she would be good as new again in a few days.
“I won’t be participating in the competition. You should sign up, though. I’ll cheer for you at the competition.” Vanessa’s brow furrowed as soon as she finished.
She suddenly had the urge to participate in the competition to prove herself.
Then she wondered why she had to prove herself.
She would love those who loved her regardless.
So what if she got a good ranking if no one loved her back?
“Silly Doe, a new ruling just came out today. You’ll get 10 thousand dollars for being in the top 100. 40 thousand dollars for being in the top 20, and 60 thousand dollars for being in the top 10! The prize money is even higher for the top three winners; the top winner will get 200 thousand dollars. Wow!” Charlotte was so excited she had forgotten about her sever. “Think about it, will you? You could be the top winner with your talent; 200 thousand dollars would be yours then. Your father and Danny won’t have to worry about their medical fees.”

Vanessa’s eyes lit up upon hearing the prize money. “So much prize money this year!” she gasped.,
The Emerald Cup was a coveted award in the jewelry industry. It was held once every three years with active participation.
Vanessa was unsure what level she was at, but what if she made it to the top 100?
There would be a prize of 10 thousand dollars.
Although she could not repay William’s debt, it was still money in her pocket.
“Yes, that’s the new ruling that just came out. Please take a look at it later. I’ll pack up and go home now. I’m hanging up. I’ll call you in a few days. Charlotte hung up the phone, took two sips of water, and immediately crawled back to bed.
The fever patch on her head almost fell off, but she quickly put it back on.
There was no one else. She lay alone in bed and groaned.
Vanessa immediately searched for the Emerald Cup.
As Charlotte had said, the Emerald Cup’s prize money this year was exceptionally high.
Vanessa recalled the prize money three years ago was very little. The real reward was signing up with a famous jewelry company for those who ranked in the top 100 with good ranking.
Back then, she could not change jobs because of her situation. Hence, she could not afford the time to participate in the competition and did not sign up.
However, with a bigger bonus, Vanessa wanted to try it. What if she was qualified?
She immediately thought of her current status as William Hawk’s wife. “William, will it affect you in any way if I participate in the Emerald Cup jewelry design competition?” she asked.
William smiled gently. “Of course not. You can do whatever you want, Vanessa. Marriage should be a bonus. It should be 1+1 greater than 2, not a restriction on your life.”
“Will it affect you if my results in the competition are bad?” Vanessa feared that she might not be qualified for the top 100. The media would have a field day reporting that William Hawk married an idiot.
“Don’t worry, it won’t affect me. My sister was eliminated in the first round of the last Emerald Cup competition. Grandpa. gave her a prize instead and encouraged her to continue participating this year.” William laughed and said. “Don’t feel pressured, Just do what you want to do.”
“Thank you, William!” Vanessa said gratefully.
William was about to stroke her hair when he realized he had just deshelled a prawn. He smiled gently at her instead. “No need to thank me in the future. We’re family.”
“All right, Vanessa replied..
She reminded herself not to say thank you too often. Instead, try to be good to William.
“In available later; I’ll accompany you to sign up for the Emerald Cup. We’ll go to the hospital to see Dad after that,” William suggested.
“Okay” Vanessa did not reject him anymore.
Chapter 41
Ben was a smart fellow who knew his place and kept a low profile throughout lunch. Suddenly he chimed in, “Mr. Hawk, I’m done eating. Why don’t I take Danny along to help Mrs. Hawk submit her registration? Danny and I could relax after that.”
“Mhmm.” William gave him an approving nod.
Ben became excited immediately. He realized that running errands for Vanessa was the way to go. He immediately signed. with Danny.
When Danny heard that he would help his sister sign up for the design competition, he was happy and stood up instantly. Vanessa asked Ben to help Charlotte fill out her registration form.
The last Emerald Cup was held in Linshire City.
It would be held at Lantrie City this time around.
Knowing that Charlotte wanted to participate in the competition, Vanessa decided to help her sign up first.
“Let’s go shopping and then go back to the hospital,” William Hawk said smilingly after Vanessa was done with her registration.
To William, the most significant difference between Vanessa and Tracy was the former would always think about caring for her family and friends. In contrast, the latter would only think about herself.
“I want to change my cell phone number.” Vanessa did not hide it from William.
“I’ll go with you,” he said.
