Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Vanessa immediately refused. “I can’t take them.”

William Hawk looked at her intently. “Take them, honey. What’s mine is yours too from hereon. You can spend it however

you want.”

His eyes met hers; then he glanced out of the private room.

Vanessa immediately looked in the same direction.

The main hall outside was filled with diners. There were not many people, but everyone looked elegantly refined.

Suddenly Vanessa saw a man with his hand on Tracy Yost’s waist as the two strolled into the dining room, chatting and laughing away.

Vanessa thought she was seeing things.

She took another look; it was indeed Tracy Yost.

She was still in the fashionable winter dress she had on earlier.

The man hugging her looked like William Hawk. His facial features were gentler but not the kind of gentleness that made people feel comfortable. Instead, it was a little feminine, especially when he smiled.

Coincidentally. Tracy looked over and saw William.

Meanwhile, Vanessa graciously took the cards from William and said, “Thank you, honey!”

William mentioned last night his cousin was his biggest competitor. He asked Vanessa to play the role of his wife for one year. She wondered if the man beside Tracy was his cousin.

William could not hide his smile when Vanessa called him honey. His entire body exuded gentleness as he reached out to touch her head. “It’s the least I can do, honey.”

When Tracy saw Vanessa take the cards from William, she was immediately overcome with jealousy.

Just as quickly, she pretended nothing had happened and walked toward the private room with Barron Hawk.

Ben told Vanessa, “The password is your wedding anniversary, Mrs. Hawk.”

“All right; thank you, Ben!” Vanessa replied.

She decided to keep these cards for now, thinking they might be helpful if needed later.

Vanessa put the cards away before Barron walked in with Tracy in his arms. He pouted at Vanessa with a feminine smile. and asked William, “Is she your wife for real, cousin?”

“Do you want me to show you the marriage license?” William asked in jest.

“Haha, you’re just a joker, William. It’s good that you got married; I don’t need to see your marriage license. However, does Grandpa know that you got married for no reason?” Barron pulled out a chair gentlemanly for Tracy as he spoke.

“For no reason?” William raised his brows slightly. “What are you talking about? How can a couple officially register their marriage for no reason? Of course, Grandpa knows about it! It’s a joyous occasion, not something shameful. Why is there at need to hide it?” he said matter–of–factly.

William told his grandfather, Arthur Hawk, about the registration after the blind date.

Arthur had no objection, saying it was fine as long as William was sure. Moreover, the elderly man was relieved that it was not Tracy Yost. He told William to bring Vanessa to the residence to meet him soon.

However, William’s father–in–law had kept him busy recently on top of his daily office tasks. Therefore, he did not have time to visit his grandfather at the residence.

Arthur Hawk understood the general situation and did not pressure his grandson.

Barron smiled again. “It’s so you, William; you’ve always been very fast when it comes to relationships. Love at first sight. seems to be your thing

“You know me well, bro. Have you had lunch? Do you want to join us?” William asked. “We’re almost done eating but can’t finish all the dishes.

Barron instantly lost the desire to stay for lunch.

How dare William imply that he could finish the leftovers? It left a bad taste in Barron’s mouth. He was annoyed. Barron then put on a half–smile and said, “Take your time, bro. I just came over to greet you. Oh, Vanessa, you may not

know this, but my younger cousin here prefers beautiful girls. He falls in love with beautiful girls at first sight. You should dress up more often and keep an eye on William. Don’t let those flirtatious sluts get their hands on him!”

Tracy was pleased with Barron’s nasty comment, as if she had won a round against William. She lifted her chin and looked at Vanessa frivolously.

Vanessa smiled and said to Barron gracefully, “Are you praising me, Barron? Thank you very much. Have a good lunch. Take care.

William called Barron bro; the latter must be the competitive cousin he mentioned.

Tracy’s face darkened when she saw Vanessa resolve the awkwardness with ease.

Barron held onto Tracy’s waist as they left the private room. He raised his eyebrows and said, “That woman is quite interesting. I heard that she is fluent in Ucronian.”

Barron told someone to keep a close watch on Vanessa during the banquet and confirmed later that she could communicate fluently with foreign business people.

Tracy’s face turned even darker. She snorted, “Her language skill is indeed good, but with her background, this would be the only thing she can show off

“I heard that she’s in the same major as you,” Barron said playfully.

“What?” Tracy frowned.

How could someone like Vanessa Sanchez be worthy of being in the same major as her?

“She’s also a jewelry designer,” Barron smiled and said. Then he thought of something fun and asked, “I heard that the Emerald Cup competition is the coveted award in the jewelry industry that takes place every three years.”

“Yeah, it’s considered a top–notch jewelry design competition in the country. It attracts numerous unknown and poor designers who want to make a name for themselves by winning the competition, hoping to attract the attention of top jewelry brands nationwide. Some even have delusions of gaining the favor of wealthy heirs o fund them in their careers. Ha, if only pigs could fly! It’s just a wild fantasy. Those who lived a life of discrimination since they were young regarded the competition as a lifesaver for fame and fortune. They dream of reaching the sky with just one leap.” Tracy rolled her eyes in disdain. “However, dreams are dreams, but the reality is bone–chillingly real. Many poor designers have not encountered rare gems, let alone scoring good rankings at the Emerald Cup. Do they think that jewelry design is all about nice drawings?” Tracy sneered.

She was, in fact, mocking Vanessa when she mentioned the poor and unknown designers.

Barron’s smile deepened. “Do you want to prepare a gift for Vanessa?”

Tracy lifted her chin and snorted. “She is not worthy of a gift from me.”

Then she suddenly realized what Barron meant and looked at him playfully. “What do you mean exactly, Barron Hawk?”

“Let her participate in the Emerald Cup competition. Then you can teach her a lesson and show her the difference between the rich and the poor. Grandpa and Hawk Group executives will know if they should bet on a strong team like us or William’s destitute team.”

Tracy’s anger subsided at the mention of Vanessa participating in the Emerald Cup competition. She could finally crush Vanessa ruthlessly once and for all!

She lifted her chin again and said. “I’ve already signed up. Vanessa is busy taking care of her dying father and mute brother. I’m afraid she has no time to participate in the competition.”

“Just let her participate. What’s so difficult about it?” Barron smiled confidently.

Poor people like Vanessa Sanchez were practical and would participate in the competition to gain fame and fortune. Moreover, now that she had hooked up with William Hawk, she would also want to increase her chips through the competition.

“Then I’ll leave it to you. Tracy smiled sweetly.

“Hmm, you just need to prepare for the competition and strive for a good ranking.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t let you down,” Tracy said confidently.

The last Emerald Cup was three years ago. William’s father was still alive then and was in the limelight. Tracy forwent participating in the competition to accompany William on overseas business trips instead.

However, she had to shine this year, no matter what.
