Chapter 141 –
Saoirse's
POV
When Cheryl opened the door, I mindlinked Robert we had a problem. There was a lot of confusion when they shot the warrior and then forced their way in there. I knew I needed to alert him first before they focused on me. We needed to join the pack sooner rather than later, as we could not alert Jaxon of what had happened. I know that they are on their way here now. We need to hold on until they get here. I had mentioned they had weapons before I cut the link.
Clay and his men were early and already inside the house. This place was a fortress, and I think Cheryl was overconfident. I wanted to warn her not to open the door, but I didn't have time to stop her. Clay is crazy, and he is fully intent on killing all of us. His words do not line up with what I can read about him. He is interested in both Cara and Luna. His intent with them was clear to me, as he didn't know how to hide his thoughts from me. He probably didn't think he needed to.Cara is frightened, and I don't blame her for being scared. Clay physically wants her, but he also wants her dead because his stupid pride was injured. While he and Brenna argued, I linked Cara. When witches speak to each other, our eyes don't glaze over like the werewolf's eyes do. There are no outward signs that we are conversing; I will use that to my advantage. 'Can you tell Brenna and Luna that Clay intends to kill all of us? They need to warn Jaxon and Kevin. We need to do what he says now to make him feel we are complying with him. We can make protective barriers. I have already withdrawn my power from the house I created. "Looks like you're on a site that's taken this content from B. Don't settle for less-get the real deal straight from the source. Head over to now for exclusive content and updates." I need as much energy as I can get. I need you to get Cheryl, Brenna, and Luna closer to
me or you. Somewhere between us is good. I will put up the bigger barrier, and you put one on you and Kevin. I told her we needed to stay calm and wait for backup. 'I don't think Clay will allow anyone to move, Mom. Also, you know as well as I do that with the door locked, no one can get in here. The safest place in the pack is now the most dangerous for us. Clay is super anxious right now. I know he is worried about what Brenna told him. He knew in his heart that they needed to get out of there, yet he hasn't tried to leave. He will have his men start shooting at the drop of a hat. We will have to do our best, but I don't know how long we can hold out against them,' Cara replied.
'Just know that I will not allow him to inject us with anything. Once his man comes over here to inject us, I am putting a barrier up. That will be your signal to protect Kevin,' I responded.
Cara is brave, and I know she will do her best. She hasn't trained as much lately, but I already knew she was strong. I was impressed when I saw what she had done to Adra's home. I knew she would be powerful. I could feel it. Since we discovered our pregnancies, I had her doing more spells. She had already mastered the projectiles and protection spells for herself and others. She was very adept at everything I had taught her. I knew we might have to deal with them ourselves before anyone could get in here to save us.
'I can help, Mom. I won't allow this jerk to hurt us. We may have to finish them off ourselves. I know it will drain us, but once they are dead, we will all be safe. It won't matter if we pass out, as my sisters will care for us. My only concern is potentially hurting our babies by using our magic. But I can't stand here and not defend the people I love,' Cara told me. I could tell that she was agitated. None of us were happy about them catching us by surprise like this.
'He is unhinged. There is no telling what he will do. When the time comes, I will protect anyone around me. We also need to keep them from going upstairs to get to the children. We can't allow them to get hurt; they are completely innocent. I wish I had learned more about this home. The only thing I knew about it was that it was a fortress. That is how Anton and Cheryl designed it: to be safe and protected on the inside. If we can disarm them, then we can attack them back. I hate saying this, but we are on our own,' I replied through the link. 'We are, but imagine how pissed off Clay is going to be when the two people he hates the most defeat him," Cara replies with a slight smile.
"Are you two communicating?" Clay is suddenly in front of Cara, wrapping his hand around her throat. He is letting his claws come out, and they are drawing blood. She had been looking over at me when she made the last comment. Now, he is frustrated and suspicious. I have to calm him down.
"No, she is just scared, like the rest of us, Clay. She was probably trying to comfort me with a smile. Don't you know that when people are linking with each other, their eyes glaze over? Did you see our eyes glaze over? Let her go. If she passes out, won't that defeat your purpose of trying to intimidate everyone? If Cara is passed out, she won't see what you have in store for us," I asked him. He released Cara, and Brenna quickly moved forward to support her before she fell to the floor. It got him to release Cara, but now he focused on me. This isn't good. "I heard your mate is that asshole gate guard that caused me so many problems when we came here to get them back. Isn't he too young for you?" Clay mocked as he walked around me. His men smirked at how he was looking me up and down.
I tried to stay calm, and I noticed that while his focus was on me, Cara's sisters and Cheryl had moved closer to her. Even Kevin had taken a few steps to get closer to her as well. I knew what she was doing, and she was going to protect the majority of people. She was trying to protect the babies. I hope she realizes that I will be fine, but I appreciate her looking out for us.
"Clay, the Moon Goddess put us together," I stated, trying to be diplomatic.
"Well, you're pregnant; this all seems pretty quick. Clearly, you don't have a problem being mated to a jerk," Clay said with a laugh. He looked over to his men and waited for them to join him in laughing.
"The Goddess gave us her blessing," I muttered, keeping my voice low.
"Well, I can't blame him for knocking you up. You are just as gorgeous as Cara is. One would think that you were her older sister instead of her mother," Clay said as he grabbed my hand to pull me into his chest and stroked his other hand through my hair. He tucked some of it behind my ear and said, "You smell so good, Saoirse, like sweet citrus to me. How about letting me have a taste? You are already pregnant. What harm could it do? That jerk doesn't have to know," he asked as he nuzzled my mark.
Is he being serious right now? "You're not my mate, Clay. So, yes, it would do a lot of harm. I don't wish to have anything to do with you," I replied icily to him. He has lost it.
We all heard his growl of anger at my words. I knew that he was about to put his hands on me. He was going to try to hurt me intentionally. 'Mom, put up the barrier now. He is not above assaulting you. He is very aggressive. He could cause you to lose the babies, Cara's panicked voice rang in my head. I took a step back away from him and put up the barrier.
I looked over at Cara, and she nodded back at me. We are all safely under the protection of a barrier now. Clay looked furious as he stepped towards me to grab me like he had Cara. His claws were extended, and he was furious. I could tell that he was planning on doing a great deal of damage to me-until he walked into the barrier. The roar that ripped from him was loud. I knew that anyone outside would have heard it, too.
He tried to use his claws to rip through the barrier before realizing it wouldn't work. He took out the gun he had shown us earlier, one he had tucked into the back of his jeans. He yelled, "I am going to kill you bitch," as he fired off several rounds at the barrier. They didn't go through, and he only got angrier.
He turned to grab Cara, with his claws sliding off her barrier. He almost fell over as he ran over to her to test it. He backed up and said, "Shoot until we hit one of them," before he started firing at my barrier. He had walked over to the other side of me; when he stopped firing, I thought he was done, but he dropped the empty magazine in his gun, slid the next one in, and started firing again. I kept my head down and focused on keeping my barrier up. It was life or death now. I was praying that he would run out of bullets soon. He wasn't coming here to start a war. He had to run out of them soon, right?
"You dirty witch. You ruined everything. I will not leave here until you and your daughter die. No matter what happens to me and my men, you two will die first," Clay said.
He was livid, and he was not thinking clearly. When he emptied his second magazine and slid the third one in, he realized it was silent in the room. His buddies were not shooting and were looking at him with anger.
"What?" Clay snapped at them. His chest was heaving, and he was pissed.
"We are not staying here, Clay. We came to do a job, but we need to leave if we can't get to them. I am not planning on dying here, Clay. Remember, we had plans. Plans that didn't include being killed in the Black Adder pack while trying to kill these witches. We failed, take the loss, and come on. We haven't been here long. I think it would be best to make our retreat," Paul replied. You could see the frustration on Clay's face. He was the self-appointed leader of the group. He hated what he perceived as disrespect. He was furious as they were not listening to him and wanted to leave. Everything was falling apart around him. Clay told them how easy this would be, and he lied to them. Until now, I guess it was easy. They have no idea how long we can hold out, and they now realize they made a big mistake. They should be worried because now it was time for us to fight back.
