Chapter 140 –
Clay's POV
Earlier that morning
I knew we had a traitor in our midst. I suspected who it was last night. I planned to catch him before we even left our hideaway to take care of business. I was going to make sure that we lost at least one member of our group today, as he could no longer be trusted. I will be leaving him behind today. The warriors at Black Adder will kill him once they find him near the perimeter wall. That way, his blood will be on their hands, not mine.
He deserves to die for crossing me. Now, we have to speed everything else up. I gave him the incorrect time for our attack, and when he left to go on a walk, I had Henry follow him. Henry is very good at staying invisible and tracking someone. He overheard Tom telling someone exactly when we were attacking. No matter what we did to him, he wouldn't admit who he had called. He had already deleted the number he had called from his history.
A lot of good it will be knowing the time I had given Tom. Especially since I changed everything once I knew he had told them we were coming. I guess attacking during the daytime would catch them off guard, as they expected us to arrive at eight. We were outside their pack at one p.m. and inside their pack before two. We had to get creative and bought a cheap camera after realizing that Tom had betrayed us. We filmed trees at a local park and set it up to replay the footage on a loop. The cameras on the perimeter wall will never see us enter the pack. Henry and I carried Tom up the wall, which was hard. He was a dead weight as we had knocked him out. Once we reached the top, we let gravity work for us as we dropped him. His arms and legs were bound, and we all heard bones break when he hit the ground. I was glad that we had gagged him, as his cry of pain was completely muffled. We moved him away from the wall to hide him. I didn't want him to be found just yet. He was sprayed with a scent blocker, just like we were. It would fade away after a few hours, but I planned on putting him at the base of the wall when we went to leave. I wanted him found quickly after we left.
Once they found him, it would be too late. We would have already dealt with the witches and the two jerks. We headed further into the pack. We were careful and stayed in the trees above, moving in closer. I made sure to listen for patrols or anyone who might report us. We heard a group coming our way, and I recognized Jaxon and a group of men following Saoirse. They were headed our way, so I signaled my men to stop.
They were so overconfident. We listened to them talking, and I realized two things quickly. One, that jerk was mated to the witch. I guess his luck was even worse than mine was. Two, she is pregnant. Today was my lucky day. She created a house right in front of our eyes. This bitch was really powerful. We heard enough of their plan to know they were trying to trap us. I could scent both Cara and Luna inside the house.
I just needed to know where they were hiding the women. I signaled to George, who was the strongest warrior we had. Not as ruthless as Paul was, but George was a better choice. He was younger, stronger, and, most importantly, patient. He was also a pretty good tracker, so I sent him to follow the group back, hoping we would find Cara and Luna. There was no sense attacking that group right now. The men with her would end up killing us quickly. I was smarter than that.
I smiled as I realized the men would return here to wait for us. George stuck to the trees, following them back to where they had come from. We started moving in the direction George went. I told him we were heading towards him, and he gave us directions. I was not going to be this fucking close to dealing with them only to be caught now. No, that was not going to happen. When George told us they took her back to a house a quarter of a mile away, I knew we had found them.
They were not going to hide them separately. They would keep them together as a group to protect them. I was incensed once we arrived and saw that they only left one warrior guarding them. How dare they not realize that I was a threat to them? If they did, they would have had more protection in place. I was almost shaking in anger at their disrespect for me and my men. Well, they were all about to learn a lesson today. We watched as the men left to return to the fake home to wait for us.
I made my men wait for over an hour after that. We were silent and watchful. I sent Henry and Paul out to ensure we were alone. This is it. It was the moment I had waited for, and I could not believe it was finally here. I knew that Saoirse was pregnant. I hope Luna isn't. She would be less attractive to me if she were getting fat due to carrying Kevin's child. Speaking of Kevin, I didn't see him in the group earlier. I assume he is inside the house with them, left behind to keep them safe. Not even realizing there is no way for him to keep them safe from us. After waiting a little longer, we decided to move in. I sent Henry to the far side of the house to distract the warrior. When the warrior went after him, I approached him and wrestled him to the ground. I gave him a shot of wolfsbane to keep him from mindlinking anyone to warn them that we were here. We brought him to the door and knocked. Henry and I held one of his arms in our hands, holding him up. Once the door opened, we burst in. We used silencers so no one would come running to investigate.
I wouldn't allow anyone to stop me from having my moment. I have to admit that seeing the fear on Cara's face made me very happy. I can see that she has a baby bump, too. Seeing Brenna standing behind her, clearly pregnant, made my smile grow. This is perfect. I can get all three of them back just by killing their mates. I wasn't positive that I was going to kill Brenna. I could make her lose the baby. That would be enough. Jaxon would be pissed off by what happened, but he would still be thankful to have his mate by his side. It might be enough to keep him from chasing us down.
I had initially come to kill the witches and those two men. But my plans have changed. I can see that just killing the witches will have the same desired effect. The men will suffer thousands of times without their mates and children. They will only suffer once if I kill them. The choice is perfect. I have a little extra time now, so I am going to make them suffer before I kill them. This is perfect. Everything is falling into place.
George was the one who had been hit when he came through the door. He didn't want to have the bad luck of getting a curse put on him for killing a witch. I know it is just a rumor, but he was convinced that curses were real and didn't want one placed on him. However, Henry and Paul didn't have any issues with killing them. All they saw were the dollar signs of getting to keep the money from our business. I already had several jobs lined up; we were missing out on two of them to do this little side quest of mine. When you don't have any qualms about killing, there are always jobs to be found.
"Give them the shots, George," I told him. "If any of you move, Saoirse and Cara will die. After that, we will kill Brenna and Luna. So you need to think carefully here. We only came to get the witches back. No one else has to die here today unless you decide to push us. We will kill everyone inside this house if you don't obey my commands."
We needed to take the witch's powers away, so they were both getting a dose of a wolfsbane mixture. Once the shots were administered, they would be sitting dicks with no powers at all. My hinting that we knew there were children here would make the decision easier for them all. I saw the toys in the corner. I knew the fear of losing them should make everyone settle down. The mother of the children had an expression of horror on her face at the threat I just made. If that makes her rethink making another attack on my men, even better. How they behave now is precisely how I decide who will be allowed to live before we leave.
"Are you crazy, Clay? Attacking the Black Adder pack? How did you talk these men into helping you? They certainly don't know who you are. Do you honestly think you will be able to get away with it? Leave now, and I will wait ten minutes before alerting Jaxon that you are here. That is the most I can do for you," Brenna's cold tone was like a bucket of water being dumped on me.
"I'm not crazy, just fed up. I worked so hard to get the Beta position at Kamaria. Only for everything to blow up in my face. How could you be so disrespectful to me? I have known you for years, Brenna. How dare you speak to me like that?" I snapped at her.
"Clay, you killed our parents. You were the one that came up with that horrible idea. Then you talked Rex and Paxton into it, using us as bait. You started this whole thing. You knew that you were never supposed to be Beta. You act like it was ripped away from you, but we both know that is a lie. You just wanted to be Beta, and when you couldn't take it away from your older brother, you came after our father. You used your friendship with Paxton to trick him into doing everything you suggested. You are the most disgusting person that I have ever known. I suggest you leave now while you still can. I promise you will live to see what is done to each of your men before you get what you deserve," Brenna snapped back at me.
"Bitch, I don't care if you are the Luna. You can't speak to me like that," I told her as I drew my gun out. I don't want to use it. We only had two silencers. My gun would be heard if I used it, but she needs to shut her trap. I trained my gun on her stomach and smiled when I saw the fear that covered her face. This is better. I deserve to be respected. This is how it should have been the whole time.
"Clay, you have made a huge mistake coming here in your misguided attempt to seek justice for yourself. I have to ask what it is that we did to deserve being killed," Saoirse's voice rang out.
