Chapter The Talk
She looked up at him and said “Okay here it is. There are several reasons I’m holding back. I have been to many packs and have seen things I don’t ever want to see again.” She closed her eyes and shook her head as if trying to clear horrible mental pictures from her mind. “I have seen damage that rouges have done to both the men and women of the pack. Rape and torture that I can’t even imagine surviving and they have. I have seen the damage that hunters have done and almost decimated packs in some areas. The torture and experiments leaving men, women, even kids horribly scarred for the rest of their lives. Even the packs have problems. One of the packs Gammas I ran across used to beat and rape his mate. He would get her pregnant and beat her and when she miscarried he would beat her for losing it. She had miscarried the fourth time when I got there and he beat her almost to death. He broke my arm during training and the Alpha had to step in. He was a vicious killer and I killed him in a scuffle with the rogues. Nobody saw me do it and I have to live with the shame of killing a pack member even though he was a piece of shit”. She looked down at her shaking hands with tears running down her face.
“I can’t live with myself if I just quit everything and just settle down and have babies. I have to help the pack in any way I can to slow down or stop the violence. I can help teach them to better protect themselves and not just let the women and children stand by helplessly while their mates and family get slaughtered”. He took her in his arms, hugged her and said. “I understand, these are my people too and I would not stop you ever. I know what you are trying to accomplish and I will stand by your side and support you in any way possible.”
She cried harder knowing that she had to tell him the other reason and knew it was going to hurt him. She pulled away from him and looked down at her hands “I almost mated another man four months ago. My human side started falling for him while I was there training and I had about given up hope of finding my fated chosen mate. My wolf tried to stop me but it was almost too late and now I’m confused about my feelings because I meet you and everything changed and my feelings toward you are so strong and built so quickly I feel like my human side has to run to catch up with my wolf side.
Adam looked up at the deepening sky, it would be night soon, he sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. “How close were you to marking and mating this guy?” She sighed not willing to go into it with him and hurt him even worse but knew she owed him the truth. “Seconds, he was called away by his Alpha or we would be mated.” “Seconds?” his mind started filling with pictures of what had happened and he couldn’t deal with it right now. He got up from the table and started walking away as Kara watched him tearfully. He turned to her and said “I have to think about this, we will talk later”. He walked to the edge of the woods, disrobed and shifted. She watched his wolf disappear into the woods and broke down in gasping sobs.
