Chapter 19
Ares POV
It felt like I had been here the entire year and before I knew it, I had stopped counting the sunrises and sunsets. For some reason it just felt so pointless to do that. I did however continue to observe everything around me, keeping a close eye at everyone, and that is how I knew the "Hybrid's", as he still hadn't told me his name yet, daily routine like the back of my hand. I made sure to keep my close observing as quiet as possible as I didn't want to alert anyone.
What did surprise me however, and I wasn't sure if I was surprised or infuriated, was the fact that nothing had been said regarding my parents or what they thought.
Did they even notice or care that I was abducted?
Before long, I had begun to formulate my own plan to get the hell out of this place. I was not going to sit around and wait for anyone to come and rescue me like some damn princess stuck in some damn tower.
I had been watching the Hybrid closely, carefully observing everything he did everything and that is how I had discovered the secret tunnel located at the right corner of his room that he would often use at night when he thought I was asleep. I never followed him for the sole purpose of letting him believe that I had no idea he had a tunnel that led out of the palace. A part of me had this nagging feeling that he was trying to test me and I would not give him the satisfaction of falling into his trap.
"Have you eaten?" He asked, bringing me out of the intense stare I had been giving the wall. I turned and looked at him, raising my eyebrow at him as he stood against the wall.
"Since when do you care whether I'm dead or alive?" I replied and watched him clench his jaw as he looked back at me.
I could tell he wanted to yell at me or even punch me in the face and yet he just stood there looking at me and that infuriated me more than anything. The fact that he would do anything no matter how much I yelled at him and even punched him and kicked him a few times, making me wonder just what the hell he was thinking through that head of his.
I blinked twice when I saw him throwing something at me which I had caught. I looked down at the apple in my hand and looked back at him. His facial expression still hadn't changed at all and frankly speaking, I had no idea what to say.
"The cook told me you wouldn't eat anything. I picked that up on my run this morning." He said as he sat down on the bench and looked at me.
"I don't trust anything here" I replied and looked down at the bright red fruit in my hand.
"Starving yourself won't solve anything." He replied making me bite the inside of my cheek.
"And I know you have other ways of sustaining yourself, but eat something once in a while" he added making me snap my eyes wide open and look at him as he smirked at me.
"You knew I was feeding off your energy?" I asked and watched his smirk grow wider.
"I didn't. I do now." He replied, making me want to just bang my head somewhere.
"I did suspect it however. I normally run the entire palace grounds, now imagine my surprise when I was completely spent after just two hours." He said making me look down.
I couldn't possible tell him why I was doing that for it was something that I myself was not even sure of. Since the day of my birth, I had been consuming the energy of those around me without even knowing it and I didn't even know how I did it. We had only found out what I was doing through my healer and was something that no one understood as yet. The only reason no one had picked up on it yet was because I was surrounded by numerous people at a time and would absorb just a portion of their energy combined. Not as much for them to actually feel it.
But he had been the only the person I had been in close contact since I had gotten here.
"You cannot control it can you?" He asked making me look up for a few seconds before I shook my head and lowered it, hearing him sigh.
I lifted the apple and rubbed it against the fabric of my arm before I raised to my mouth and bit into it, resisting the urge to smile at how sweet it was.
"I've spoken to my father." He said after a few moments, making me stop my chewing and look down at the delicious apple in my hand that no longer looked as appetizing as it initially did.
"And?" I asked in reply and looked at him, seeing him run a hand over his face.
Now that I looked at him, I could see how exhausted he looked and a part of me guilty at having contributed to that exhaustion despite my not being able to control it, and I could only hope that he would not need to go out into war with the state he was in because frankly speaking, I did worry about him to some degree as he was about the only one who had treated me like a person and not like some common whore.
"He wants to see you right now. Didn't say much more than that" he said making me bite the inside of my cheek and lower my apple onto his bed that I had been sitting on.
"It'll be fine. Just tell him what he needs to know and there won't be any problems" he said.
I sighed and got up, dusting myself off in the process and walked to the door. I watched as he stood up and sighed, making his way towards the door and walked in front of me. All the while he hadn't said anything and neither did I, which was really bad bad because it was in moments like these that my mind thought up the worst possibilities.
What did he want? What would he make me do? Was he going to kill me?
My thoughts were halted when he stopped in front of two huge doors with strange engraving carved into them. He stood in front of the door for a few seconds before he turned around and faced me, though I hadn't looked at him as I had been looking down the entire time. I felt him reach out and place his index finger beneath my chin, lifting my head and gazing into my eyes. His bright green ones staring into my deep blue ones.
"It's going to be okay. Just breathe and you'll be fine." I nodded and let out a sigh watching him smile and take a step back and lower his hand.
"I'll be right outside." He added and knocked on the door, hearing a voice granting permission to enter after a few seconds. I pushed the door open and walked in.
Here goes nothing..
