Chapter 18
Hybrid POV
"I only asked a question."
I raised my eyebrow at the question I had heard through the door as I stood outside my room and pushed the door open, finding my obnoxious sister sitting on the bench in my room as the prince sat on my bed, his legs crossed as he looked down. I looked closely and my confusion only heightened when I noticed his complexion that looked as though he had been thrown into a furnace.
"Asked what?" I asked as I walked in and left the door open, letting my sister know that she had to leave.
"I was just asking him he ever-"
"Nothing!" He yelled over her voice making her smirk and turn to me.
"Sure nothing. What did father say?" She asked me as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"Nothing." I replied and watched her roll her eyes as she stood up from the bench and walked towards the door.
"Real mature little brother." She replied as she scoffed and walked out.
"Little?" He asked with a surprised expression and turned his gaze towards me.
"By four days." I answered and watched him nod as he looked down at his clothes.
"Uhm. These are yours?" He asked to which I nodded.
And just like that, the conversation had died. None of us really knowing what to ask the other and a part of me wondered why he was even bothering to make a conversation with me.
"Thank you. For what you did." He said after a long silence, making me raise my eyebrow, not remembering what he was talking about before it dawned upon me.
"Why didn't you do anything?" I answered making him visibly tense at the question.
"What are you trying to imply!" He replied in a voice that I was definitely not expecting to come from someone who looked so delicate, clenching his teeth.
"Nothing really. It's a simple question." I answered as I spotted the tray on my table, wondering if my sister had brought it with her earlier, although I hadn't seen her with anything.
He didn't reply to my earlier question and I didn't dwell on it, gathering that it was something that he didn't want to talk about for whatever reason.
I shrugged and walked towards the table, moving aside the cloth, seeing the meal placed there. I narrowed my eyes when I saw just one portion, wondering if they were not planning on feeding their supposed 'prisoner'. I picked up the tray, walked and placed it on the bed close to him.
He raised his eyebrow and looked at the tray, moving aside the cloth before his face scrunched up in complete and utter disgust before he pushed it aside and glared at me.
"I'm a vegetarian asshole!" He said through his clenched teeth, glaring at me.
"What's that?" I asked genuinely confused by the word he used.
He looked at me and titled his head, as if he was so desperately trying to understand me, so confused at the fact that I had not the slightest clue about what he was talking about and I suddenly felt the urge to smile at his facial expression. For some reason it looked so..
Cute..
"You don't know what that is?" He asked and I shook my head in response as I pulled the tray back, gathering that he didn't want it.
"Forget it. How long do you people expect to keep me here." He asked as he looked down at his lap.
"Can't answer that." I replied as I walked and stood by the window.
"What do they plan on doing with me?" He asked making me turn around and look at him.
He didn't have a look of fear on his face, and yet the tone of his voice told me a different story and it made me wonder how long it had taken him to mask what he felt and put on a face that completely contradicted what he really felt.
"Use you. That much's obvious. Beyond that I don't know." I answered truthfully and watched as looked back at me in deep thought.
"Why would you tell me this." He asked making me repeat the question in my head.
Why was I doing this?
"I don't know. I don't see the point in lying." I replied and watched him sigh as he looked towards the window.
I moved aside somehow knowing what he wanted and watched as he got up from the bed, my clothes hanging on his frame despite his slight muscular build as he made his way towards the window. He placed his hands on the pane and looked out, gasping slightly at what he saw outside.
"I didn't think the Orc kingdom was this vast." He said as he stared at our kingdom through the window.
I understood his surprise, as everyone in every kingdom looked down upon the Orcs and all believed that they lived in tents and ate toddlers, but what they refused to believe was that they too, worked hard for everything they had and I bore witness to that.
"What did you expect to see. Tents and fires?" I asked sarcastically as I leaned against the wall and watched his eyes fill with amazement as he looked outside.
"How far does it stretch?" He asked and turned to face me, his rich blue eyes filled with wonder, like that of a child's.
"As far as your eye can see." I answered and watched his eyes widen further.
"How long did it take him to conquer that much land?" He asked and titled his head.
"A decade , though most of the land was uninhabited" I replied and watched him raise his perfect eyebrow at me.
"Yes, we lived in tents before that. Moving from land to land, trying to find our place in the world when my father had enough of it all. He wanted a place we could call home-" I trailed off when I saw his eyes widen and wondered what had surprised him when I realized my error, making me feel like I wanted to just punch myself in the gut. I had secretly hoped he hadn't heard me but when he opened his mouth and asked his next question, I knew I was going to be in so much trouble.
"Your father? Are you the king's son?"
