Chapter 7 — Destroy the Dragons
King Alec's POV
5 YEARS LATER
I paced around the throne room, frustration in every step, a growl emitting from my clenched lips, moving back and forth.
Failure.
Everything we had done so far was a failure. The magic around the barrier killed all those who went in just like that stupid witch Emma.
If this expedition would be proven futile then all would be lost. 2 years we had searched, ever since the dark witch revealed to us the token that could pass through the dragon barrier.
Learning of it was easy. Finding it was harder.
Weapons, and the growth of Xink, the only poison known to exists that could kill a dragon had also began throughout the years. It grew in such small amounts and produced little poison at a time, it has taken years to create a few bags. Barely enough to stop a dragon army.
I scowled at the thought, pacing.
Suddenly the door to the throne room opened, causing me to look up expectedly,
"Your Majesty" Luke, my second in command began, bowing. I frowned at this.
"If you are this tardy, I do hope you can cover it up with some good news this time, "I growled out, my fists clench in as my fangs throbbed.
Luke nodded standing up straight.
"The witch has managed to get the bangles" he began, a sly smile on his features as if expecting some sort of good job from me.
I returned it with a harsh glare "Do they work?"
He fidgeted underneath my glare his eyes trailing to the floor," Yes, my lord."
I grunted in relief. Progress! After five years, progresses! I took a seat after pacing around for hours, "Finally, we can get rid of those dragons," I muttered.
"Yes your majesty, with the bands of Arkiah, we can penetrate their barrier magic, but..." Luke trailed off. My gaze immediately snapped to him, knowing he was holding back something, "Speak!" I growled out.
He cleared his throat uncomfortably, eyes still on the stoned floor.
"There are only twenty bangles. Well...uh...nineteen," he replied quickly.
The information caused my eyebrows to hunch, before chuckling to himself. I stood up slowly noting that Luke took had taken a step back in return.
"You mean to tell me, " I began, reaching for my sword that lay against my throne," that only twenty people can go in?" I asked. I unsheathed it trailing it down along beside me, relishing in in the teeth grinding nose it left behind as it trailed on the stone floor.
"Nineteen" Luke corrected; his eyes fixed on the sword.
"I thought you said fifty," I replied coolly, my eyes lingering on him.
"There were fifty, but Abigail the great witch took one from our defenses," he replied softly swallowing his words.
"Emma's little niece" I growled out, still calm, "How can a half witch penetrate through our soldiers?"
Luke remained quiet "A novice little witch defeated my soldiers eh?" I continued looking over my shoulder and raising one eyebrow at Luke.
"It's been five years your majesty since she became the protector. She has grown stronger; I would hardly say she is a novice. She is almost as good as Emma," he began.
As you reach the final pages, remember that 000005s.org is your destination for the complete story. Share the joy of reading with others and spread the word. The next chapter is just a visit away!
I growled at his response, my eyes darkening. The witch was no protector. She might be the keeper of the source, but still, Stupid King Rodrick had put a bounty on her head, she was relieved from that title.
"Well then we just have to get rid of her. Like Emma" I huffed out, releasing an uninterested sigh.
I paused, before turning around, "Oh Luke, you disappoint me and so early in the morning. You do know how grumpy I become."
Luke gulped slowly still staring at the floor.
"I told you to bring me good news"
Luke was still silent.
"Do you know what one dragon could do to twenty men? Oh wait, 19 men thanks to your incompetence. We don't even know how many Dragons are out there or what kind. And we are running out of Time, the golden prince grows stronger every day," I paused in front of Luke who was still staring at the floor.
I lifted the sword and put it under Luke's chin raising it roughly, so Luke was now looking into his cold eyes.
"You will not waste my time anymore" he growled, slashing his shoulder.
Luke fell to the floor as the blood spelt on to the ground. He yelped in pain rolling across the floor writhing. I looked away with a sigh.
Luke paused breathing in and out as his body slowly started to heal as the pain subsided.
"Three minutes" I muttered before turning back to Luke who was slowly picking himself up.
"It took you three minutes to heal. Have you not fed?" I asked not at all pleased.
"I was busy your majesty, taking care of the kingdom and finding the bracelets with the dark witch, I forgot to feed."
"You are my second in command! I expect you to protect me but if you can't even heal properly I would be a dead man in a second."
"Forgive me my lord, My most sincere apologies your highness"
Luke replied wincing a little.
"Apologize to my dead body!" I snapped back, "you must find more of these bangles to magnify our army, only these bracelets can penetrate the dragon magic that surrounds the dark forest. We need as many of them as possible!" "Only a twenty-five have ever been made my king "
"Then you must find the rest!" I snapped.
"Yes my lord"
"Leave my presence and don't come back until you do"
"As you wish my lord" Luke replied bowing before turning away.
"Oh, and Luke.. " I called back as I faced my throne.
"My king?"
"if you do fail me, the next strike is through your heart and no amount of healing will bring you back" I grunted, "your little mate will soon follow your fate." Luke looked down at the floor, "yes my lord," he said bowing.
"leave."
And With that he walked away.
