Ava- Ever Green Series Book Two

Chapter 17

Two days have passed since Margo and Ava had themselves binder by a spell. The others were packing up the car to head back to Caribou, Maine. Hoping that their magic signatures are not discovered by other supernaturals. Driving the next several hours taking breaks to get gas and food. They eventually made it back by nightfall.

Selma pulled up to the driveway. She noticed something that felt off upon getting close to the door. Noticed that the door was open. Backing away, she went to the passenger glove department for her gun. Marching over to grab the flashlight, Selma went into the cabin by herself. Ava thought that was the worse mistake she could have made. Selma searched the property and came back to them that it was okay to come in.

Ava was trying to see if she could catch the scent of any intruders. She was surprised to pick up some vampires in the house. Also, made sure to tell Selma about that later. They were tired from traveling. Her wolf was pacing her head but nothing happened. Her wolf was not pushing to gain control at all. She had all of her senses but can’t shift at all. Kind of a blessing in disguise, Ava guessed.

“I guess things are going to be different now?” Serena questioned.

“Maybe they will be. We still are considered criminals to the council for killing Magnus Weller.” Ava informed Serena.

“The trackers had been here,” Ava told the others.

“What?” Selma was confused by Ava’s statement.

“Upon coming into the cabin, I smelled the scent of vampires in here or close by,” Ava told Selma.

“That could mean, they’re watching us right now. Quickly, turn off the lights” Selma instructed the others.

Following Selma's orders, the others checked everything from the windows to the doors in the basement. Everything was in order and felt safe for now. The only thing, that was not checked was the nearby woods behind the cabin. Ava looked out the window from the back deck door. She saw movement in the woods. A pale figure walked out from the tree line and sniffed the air. The person motioned for another to follow behind them.

“They’re here. I can smell them.” One tracker said.

Ava hid behind one of the couches in the living room.

The others hid in other rooms of the house. Trying to be quiet as possible. Ava listened for movement for footsteps coming up the back deck. The trackers were waiting for them to return from Bedford. Ava heard the doorknob being played with and nothing happened.

“The doors are locked, which means they’re here. Tell the council of this. Miles will want to know. Something feels off, I cannot get the scents of the witches or the werewolf. I can scent the two humans inside. They must have used a binding spell or something.” Tracker One said.

“Isn’t that illegal to use a binding spell?” Tracker Two asked.

V“Yes and No. The council only uses a binding to exile someone from society or to keep someone important and safe. I don’t know all the details. Only the council knows about this stuff.” Tracker One replied, “They use vampires in the dark about all that.”

Both trackers sped away and went elsewhere. The group came out of hiding and hoped those vampires never returned. Ava came out of hiding behind the sofa and was shocked the binding spell worked on her. She thought it wouldn’t work due to her being a werewolf. Now, she can’t shift and be deemed dormant. Secretly, it made her sad deep down but it needed to be done for safety reasons.

“Do you think we are safe here?” Serena asked.

“I don’t think so. We might have to leave for another place soon. For now, we are for the time being.” Selma reassured Serena.

It was going to be a long couple of days for them. They are going to have to go back to Ever Green and face the council soon or later. Looking at either, they all knew they couldn’t keep running from what happened either. Margo looked over at Ava. Ava knew the look on Margo’s face was fear Ava was scared too.

Two days went by, and the group prepared the house and packed up everything. The group got back into the van to head back to Ever Green. They knew they could not keep running. It was time to face the council.
