Ava- Ever Green Series Book Two

Chapter 13

After Selma left the room, Ava and Serena both decided to go out to check out the backyard. Both didn’t want to want to talk about what happened in the house or the events of two days ago. Even if it was fresh in her mind. Her birth parents and adoptive father might be dead. Ava and Thomas might not see their mother again for some time. Ava was lost in her thoughts when Serena asked, “Do you think we could get over what happened two days ago?”

“Maybe in due time but we will have scars from the trauma for a while. Like they always say time heals wounds but not scars.” Ava said.

“I should text my parents to let them know I am okay at least,” Serena told Ava who keeps looking at her phone.

“Do you think that would be a good idea? They could be in danger next. Hoping to find our location. So, I don’t think it is a great idea.” Ava suggested.

“Oh, okay,” Serena said frowning.

Thomas comes out and asked asks the girls, “Would you guys like to go into town and check it out?”

“Sure,” both said in unison.

Thomas and the girls wanted to leave Margo and Selma to talk about what happened to Cassandra. The ride-in was far from Selma’s house. Thomas stopped into a local food mart to pick up some things that might need. The girls picked whatever else out. They paid the cashier and left. The town was eerily quiet today. It was weird. No one was out and about doing much. They decided to go back to the house.

When they returned, there was a black car sitting across the street from Selma’s house. They didn’t recognize it. Immediately, went to tell Margo and Selma, “There’s an unfamiliar car parked out of the house.”

Selma peeked through the blinds and said, “I don’t recognize the car either.”

The black car doors started opening and two men came out. The guys were dressed in all black by the looks of it. Both were heading towards the door. Selma told the rest to hide. She opened the door and asked, “What can I do for you gentlemen?”

“We have reports from the supernatural council that Margo Devereux and Ava Klein are missing. Have you seen them by any chance? They are wanted for questioning regarding the head of council's death.”

“Oh, I am sorry. I haven’t seen them.” Selma lied.

Before leaving, they scanned the room and were listening to heartbeats. They wondered if Selma had her family over by the heartbeats heard from the basement and upstairs. They left without looking around the property. Selma called to them that the coast was clear. Margo came up from the basement and asked, “Who were they?”

They were vampires in the black car with tinted windows. That just drove me away. Selma mentioned, “They were vampires from appearances. They are looking for you guys. How did they track you guys here? Why didn’t you mention killing Magnus Weller?”

“We were getting to that part but I think we need to leave town so don’t come back,” Thomas suggested coming downstairs.

“I guess we pack whatever else we need. I have a safe house up north.” Selma sighed and went to pack.

They waited until nightfall, to leave just in case other supernaturals were watching them. Speeding away from the house. Thomas kept an eye out for anything that his human eyes would allow him to see. He waved them forward and rushed towards the car. Nothing was following them yet.

They spent the next several hours driving north going to Maine to escape Pennsylvania. No one said anything until they got to the safe house. Each was hoping they were safe and not in danger. They spent the night in the cabin. They slept in the living room and showered and changed clothes. They all knew they couldn’t hide forever from the council and felt like the end was near but it was the start of something new.
