Ava- Ever Green Series Book Two

Chapter 12

Ava saw her brother holding the gun to Serena’s head suddenly made desperate. She shifted back and asked, “What are you doing?”

“I am sorry, Ava. Things like this need to come to end. I never thought it would come to this. ”Thomas said. He shifted the safety on the gun. Serena held her eyes shut waiting for the blow to come but it didn’t.

Kaleb came around the corner and said, “I will admit that I did kill your birth parents. Henry yelled that at me the night I killed him.”

Ava turned around to see Kaleb standing in the kitchen. She didn’t have to know more and shifted then attacked her dad. Ava ripped into his neck leaving it open for him to bleed out. There was blood all over the floor and leaving a nice mess.

“Thomas you want to be like Dad who I killed. I suggest thinking for a sec before firing that gun.” Ava demanded.

Thomas looked at Margo and Ava then down at Serena. He looked towards Jacob and around the scene that is unfolding around him. It was too much for him to bear and puts the gun down. Serena then rushes to Ava. Ava hugs her frightened friend who was crying. They were busy to hear more movement from behind them coming towards the kitchen.

They looked up and Lucius held a gun in his hands pointing at Jacob. He shoots him in the chest. Jacob falls to the ground. All of them scream and then scatter over the backyard towards the woods. Lucius chases after them. He closes to where Thomas was hiding and says,” I always knew you were never going to keep part of the plan. You were just always a pansy like the rest of them. I always wanted to feel alive when I killed Cassandra yesterday.”

Lucius walked away and went to look for Margo came into view. He grabbed her by the hair and drags her back towards the house. Margo screamed the whole way. The rest come out of hiding and ran towards the house. Thomas made it to the door and was shaking the handle. Of course, Lucius locked the door and all of us had to watch him torture our friend from the window.

What we saw was Margo sitting on a chair and Lucius absorbing her magic. We all saw the agony of not doing anything. Ava looked around for something to break the window on the back door. She saw a heavy brick laying on the ground and said, “Duck down” then she tossed it at the windows. It left a nice hole in the glass. Thomas got the door open and reached for the gun on the floor.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, Thomas,” Lucius instructed.

“Why should he listen to you considering everything you did?” Serena questions Lucius.

“There’s a lot you don’t know human. Like your friend over there.” Lucius said pointing at Ava, “Her adopted father killed her birth parents and your precious friend Henry.” Then looks at Thomas, “You never told your sister the plan either but you changed your demeanor on this whole diversion.”

“What plan was he talking about?” Ava questioned Thomas.

“The plan involved you becoming a hunter and betraying everyone close to you. Then I saw tonight what impact this might have on both of us. It was a hard choice to make and I never went through with my part of the plan.” Thomas admitted.

Lucius was clapping.

The both of them looked at Lucius. Nothing was said for a while. Margo was getting uncomfortable by Lucius withdrawing her magic. She scream and then bit down on his hand when he tried to cover it. Now, yelping out in pain, Margo used it to escape from him. She tapped the others to follow her.

All of them managed to get away. No one said anything for a bit. They were deep in the woods and ran so more until they reached a pay phone to make a call to Cassandra’s cousin to come to get them. They sat at the gas station until headlights pulled up.

“Hey Margo,” Selma waved and looked behind Margo to see the added bunch with her. She questioned, “ Who are your friends?”

“Selma meet Ava, Serena, and Thomas.” Margo introduced. They all waved.

“Why did you call?” Selma asked.

“We are on the run from Lucius Wentz.” Margo replied, “We need to leave Evergreen for a while. You were the only one I can trust. I will tell you everything but right is not the time.”

Ava had a feeling none of them were going to be safe since the showdown at Margo’s house. She desperately wanted everything to go back to normal. Instead, she is on the run now.
