Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Katerina:

I woke up and shook my head when I didn’t find Nikolay beside me.

I shouldn’t have expected any less anyway. It’s been a long time since he’s I’ve seen him beside me when I woke up, and frankly, at this point, I couldn’t say that I cared.

I freshened up and walked out of the room, surprised to find that the kids were already awake. They were in the living room. I could hear them talking downstairs, and for the first time in months, Nikolay was by their side.

“Mama!” Andrew, my little one, called for my name. He and Bianca were the one reason for me to stay here. I knew that I wouldn’t have been able to cope with everything if not for them.

“Hi, baby.” I said, my eyes softening as my son ran toward me.

Nikolay, who was sitting on the couch as the kids played with their puzzle, got up. He wrapped his arms around me, taking me off guard as I hugged him back after putting Andrew back.

“Is there anything that I am going to need to know?” I whispered, voicing out my confusion.

“Can’t a man be affectionate toward his wife?” He asked, and I scoffed. He smirked and kissed my temple, letting his lips linger there for a few moments before he pulled away to look me in the eye. “I thought that we could spend the day together. The kids are going to school in a bit and it’s been a while since we have.”

I eyed him suspiciously, but chose to nod, curious about what he was up to. Whatever it was, I knew that he wasn’t just aiming to go out with me. There was something about it, and frankly, I was curious about what it was.

“Sure. Do you want me to get ready? Or should we go the way that we are?” I asked, motioning to the fact that he was wearing jeans and a shirt. I was wearing a knee long dress and heels. It was mostly the way I got dressed now. Being who we are, I knew that we often had guests coming, and it was always best to be ready.

“We can go the way we are. It won’t be too far anyway.” He said, and I nodded. Our eyes met and the smile that formed on his lips was one that I haven’t seen in a long time, not toward me at least.

“Alright, we can head off after seeing to the kids leaving to their day care.” I said, looking at my daughter who walked up to me, understanding that whatever it was that me and her father were talking about was done. “I just need to check and make sure that all their things are tended to…”

“I take it that you aren’t on the best terms with your mistress?” I asked, watching as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me to his chest as we walked along the coastline.

Having changed my clothes to jeans and a t–shirt, I was glad that he told me that we were going for a walk. It would have been a little difficult to walk with heels considering the coastline.

He shook his head and scoffed, knowing that I was being serious.

Paparazzi took pictures of the two of us, and though it was good; that shut mouths up, I still didn’t like their presence,

“You had to bring her up, didn’t you?” He asked, making me laugh,

“The two of us have accepted that term a long time ago. While I know that we said no feelings were to be involved, I am neither blind nor am I deaf to the rumors that are spreading around about the two of you” I said, looking at the sea. I put on the best smile that I could muster, knowing that the two of us were being photographed. This was going to be the next new hit news.

“No, there is no problem between the two of us. But there was something that I was meaning to talk to you about. It concerns the two of us and the mistress.” He said, and I frowned. The love bite that was on his collarbone was one that I saw yesterday when he slept. It hurt me to see, but I knew the choices that I made.

“And that is?” I asked, taking a deep breath for what was to come.

“It’s been running around my mind for a very long time. I know that it isn’t something that you might want to hear, but I want you to think of it before you say anything.” He said, and I frowned in confusion.

“Nikolay, what are you talking about? By the looks of things, it seems to me that you’re planning a breakup. And if that is the case…”

“I am planning on the two of us to get back together the way that we were.” He said, stopping me. Now, if I was frowning before, my jaw dropped now.

“I’m sorry, what?” I asked, taking a step back. This time, I didn’t care about the press who were watching us. They would be wondering what we were talking about, and stories would be told; but that was the last thing that I wanted to think of.

“I miss us,” he said, and I looked down at my feet. “I want us to try being together the way that we were. I mean, before…”

“You chose to sleep with one of my friends?” I asked, gulping as I tried to voice out the words. “Or before I told you that my feelings for you were long dead?”

“Both,” he said, and I nodded.

“And I am expected to accept…”

“That is why I asked you to think about it.” He said, stopping me. I looked away from him for a second before walking toward him. He wrapped his arm around my waist, and I took a breath, knowing to calm myself down. People were watching.

“Why?” I asked, looking sideways at him. He looked down at me, and I shook my head. “Why would you suddenly want to be with me after YOU…?”

“It was a fling, Katerina. You knew that very well.” He said, and I smiled. My smile was cold and I was hurt.

But I knew not to comment.

“It died down…”

“You always knew that it would.” He said, stopping me. I nodded before taking a deep breath as we reached the car. The driver opened the door for me. It’s been a while since the two of us went out, and though I was curious about his reason, this was the last thing that I expected from him.

“As did my love for you, Nikolay.” I said, making the man frown as I entered the car. He looked at me, his eyes meeting mine as I took a deep breath. “A little too late to amend the pain that you caused. Don’t you agree?”

“Katerina…”

“Alejandro, please take us home.” I said, stopping him. “The kids should be home from their daycare

-soon…”
