Chapter 57
David's gaze veers. It makes his blue eyes glaze over. Hunter also rises.
"What is it?"
Maybe. After two assaults, I wouldn't be surprised if a threat increased now. Hunter corrects me as David rises, pecks my cheek, and departs the dining room. "A phone call," Hunter says as he leaves.
Jessica catches my eye and smiles comfortingly. The members either ignored or used David and Hunter's mood swings.
The party heads home after a few minutes, but not before thanking Jessica for dinner. Jessica smiles and squeezes or kisses their hands.
Jessica rushes to sagi's aid as Jonny rises. sagi smiles as she hands Jonny, still sleeping, over to Jessica.
Why hasn't he been fed?
A bottle is slipped into the outside pocket of sagi's navy-blue diaper bag.
Jessica swoons over Jonny as she exits the dining room.
I drink my water and go get my plate and glass. David enters the kitchen, followed by Hunter. Their brows rise at sagi's slumber.
"Hunter." You'll need a guest room for sagi
Hunter doesn't object and softly picks up sagi. sagi, 18, is safe in Hunter's arms. sagi's heart hurts. Her parents died, so she had to grow up quickly.
My parents surely wonder how long dinner lasts, "Goodnight, Alpha," Mallory says as she rushes out of the kitchen, her eyes downcast.
"Do you always have to be the Alpha with our pack members?
"I need to talk to you, Susan," David says solemnly, as if he means business
"Rest, Neme."
As we left the kitchen, David places complete moon festival decorations on the coffee table, which made me joyful, but I reminded myself we needed to talk first. A phone call, I hope. I pirouette to face my partner.
As David approaches, I startle, his hands grabbing my hips to steady me. "Howdy? We need our bond to calm David down."
"Baby," my heart thumps, "I'm not sure how to"
"OK," I answer quietly.
He squints at my hand. "What happened in the mating hut, I told Mason, a member who lived here while my father was Alpha. "He worked late at night to find a solution."
"Well?"
"All your newborn females have the wolf gene, but not your guys."
I can't reach David's full moon festival tree, and I doubt Jessica would let me stand on her chair.
I gaze from David to the tree, pondering the logistics.
"I've got an idea," David says with a cheeky smile. "So, what?"I wonder.
"Face me, sweetie," I say.
When his hands hold my hips, I gasp and struggle to free myself from my mate's grasp. No! Screaming is futile.
My empty hand rushes to his hair as my body adapts to the height difference and David being between legs.
"No big deal."
The region is covered in a snowless night, and the kids go to bed, hoping for a full moon festival miracle to save their family.
The notebooks reveal David and n's wrath.
The way David grips my bare calves distracts me.
"Susan?"
If I ever doubted David's ability to read my thoughts, I'm reminded that our bond is so deep that he can notice a change in my mood and determine its cause quickly.
So I kneel to start wrapping the lights around the full moon festival tree, which smells like a candle store's full moon festival candle.
Time flies. "About?"

He pauses.
David goes cautiously around the tree, his hands on my calves to keep me stable as I sit on his shoulders.
The remainder of the lights is sprinkled around the couch's edge.
David lifted me off his shoulders as if I were a limp doll, but it wasn't simple.
"Sorry!"I winced as he lifted me.
"That'll teach him!" he jokes, making me grin.
Then I change.
When I first met David, he wasn't smiling, but now he's always laughing with me, even at me.
"I adore your" grin.
It excites me and makes my heart race. It's the only way I can tell David I love him.
I love him.
I can't.
No.
To wrap me in his arms and kiss me until I'm breathless and my head reels, I pout.
"I love your smile, Susan," he mumbles.
My smile fades as I recollect what happened before David lifted me.
I was thinking about the pack and their need for modifications. "Time seems to fly past, and we can't keep up."
"I promise, sweetie," he replies, caressing my back, shoulders, and neck to relax the tension.
The pack will improve by the new year, I sigh, parted lips.
Yes.

My eyes squeak shut, and I relieve my eye pain by turning over in bed and snuggling against David's warm, bare chest.
Then my man-pillow rumbles and I chuckle.
David smiles down at me, his chest on full show, as I lift my head to see what's so funny this early.
Every morning I'm astonished to see him bare.
No! No, a dark part of me says.
"So what?"
After our morning kiss, David chuckles again and strokes my tangled blonde hair on his way out. I'd purr now if I were a cat. "Funny."
I push away from his enticing body and remove the blanket to show David that I don't cuddle him every morning.
David mumbles between nipping my shoulder and neck.
He asks, a grin on his face.
The full moon festival tree was lit, and only David and I were in the packhouse. Naked, moaning, grabbing, and- Squeezing my thighs to relieve the ache, I say,
We're pals! So how have David and I remained unmarried for so long?
We're not like we're not attracted. We can't keep our hands and tongues shut while alone or even among others.
So maybe... The Moon Goddess keeps us from sex.
"Yeah," David boasts.
David observes my change in attitude and asks what's wrong.
My heart is pounding, my palms sweating, my throat dry.
"David-"
"Yes?"
