Chapter 56
"I spotted you on the couch. I had to snap a pic. See? "In the picture of David and me, she unfastens her neck strap and hands me the camera.
I giggle again and zoom in on David's gorgeous face for laughing.
"Mom! You can't photograph me sleeping!"
A breathtaking smile squints his eyes, zooms in on me, and I gasp.
"Sorry, Mama. Print me a copy," he adds, Jessica giggling. David then raises his hand and pecks my cheek.
My hair is twisted in David's hands, and resting on his lap makes me seem fat.
"Here," I say to Jessica.
Let Susan help Jessica cook dinner. Then I'll make steaks and rolls.
Then I collect the cutting board and a kitchen knife. I clean the broccoli head and start chopping it for dinner.
I would inquire what song she's singing, but she's busy baking bread.
I'm done slicing broccoli when the oven's heat causes sweat beads to form on my temples and between my breasts.
"I'm almost done with the rolls, and the steaks are marinating," Jessica replies, brows furrowing.
"Thanks," I say as I go out of the kitchen and up the stairs.
David links me at work.
I'll shower beforehand.
When I open the bedroom door and switch on the lights, David says, "Baby," making me chuckle. I turn on the hot water, and memories of Yeri flood my mind.
When my shower is hot enough, I put my leggings, sweater, and underwear on the tiled floor.
David and I washed each other naked, the shower's immensity always impresses me.
It's time for a shower.
I race through my shower to avoid thinking about David while picturing what the pack might do for the full moon festival.
It'll be an excellent opportunity to meet new people and hear their stories.
I brush my wet blonde hair and wash my hands before leaving the room and heading to David's office.
I go down the dark hallway, past the paintings and pictures of pack members, and into the office without knocking or asking permission.
Looking at David, I see he has a pen in his hand, an ear-pencil, and papers all over his desk.
"So, what?"
"I wonder what he'll say?"
I am assisting ladies and children, and preparing food. This practice must be altered.
David slouches at his desk, his shoulders tensing.
"I'm trying to make financial modifications," he adds, rubbing his temples and looking through the papers. "Goddess, I'm afraid we'll never get out." "David-"
"But," he adds, disregarding what I say and chuckling a sinister laughter that tingles my spine, "I'm really considering seeking help from the neighboring pack."
His stubble-covered chin scraped. "I don't want to sway your opinion. After you read the diaries, tell me whether you think the vengeance should cease."
I'm pleased David didn't tell me about his and his neighboring pack's conflict since I suppose David's hatred for the Alpha next door would have swayed me. Luckily, I have the resources to decide whether the vendetta should stop or not. I cross my knees, grab a random piece of paper from the sole unoccupied desk section, and examine the page while reaching behind David's ear for the pencil.
We peruse the newspaper till Jessica says dinner is ready.
Pure gold candlesticks surround the table in the dining room, providing a magnificent setting for me, David, and the pack.
I grin as I recollect specific faces until a young woman carrying a baby smiles at me.
My path leads me, a young girl who has taken care of her younger brother Jonny since their parents died.
I give her a firm grasp before releasing go.
"Luna, it's lovely to see you," Sagi replies, squeezing my hand warmly.
I last saw Jonny a month ago, and his physique has grown, and golden hair covers his bigger head.
Jonny wiggles, yet he sleeps with a smile.
"I can't believe he'll be walking in a few months," Sagi laughs.
Walking?
So David says, "Pup. Jonny grows up quicker than a human."
When I want to connect with David, I focus only on him, but this time connecting with David was second nature.

The rest of the group waits for Sagi and me to finish talking before eating.
Sagi agrees, and I sit. As I approach David, the Alpha, he is already seated. His blue eyes sear me as I sit. Even when he nods to indicate dinner is ready, he maintains his gaze on her. Pack members rush to get their hands on the food. David doesn't grasp food or start talking or laughing.
His issue?
"What?" I hiss in annoyance. I take a spoonful of the little broccoli trees and place them on my dish. The steamed broccoli fills the room.
David chuckles and accepts the bowl. He reaches too far, caressing my hands, igniting my body. I yanked my hands out from under David's. My pack members notice my heightened longing. "I know," I tell my buddy as he proudly serves Hunter the broccoli.
"I don't know what you're talking about, honey," David responds endearingly. And he licks my knuckles, adding to his charm.
Hand back to the table. I postpone it until after dinner. Pass food until all dishes are filled. We ate Jessica's wonderful meal an hour later.
I tell Neme about full moon festival morning. We joke about presents and brunch. We had a childish attitude every full moon festival.
On full moon festival Day, a particular air fills every home. Families laugh and smile as they recollect past full moon festivales and create new memories to treasure.
I miss my parents when I think of family and full moon festival. I'll call and wish them a Merry full moon festival.
As I'm going to remind Neme of her full moon festival visit, my empty dinner plate is grabbed. My brows crease when Jessica talks to Neme. That's her usual. I look behind me and gasp again.
