Alpha's Human Luna

Chapter 38

Is he going to propose? I'm not ready for it! David, seeing my terror

"Not what you think, Susan. "

"The Luna will have this ring. This ring protected them."

"Why hasn't your mother worn it since I arrived?" I gently remove the ring from David's hands.

"After my father died from the attack, my mother couldn't stand it." I glance up, finding despair in David's blue eyes.

My other hand touches the sorrowful seam between his broad brows. "I see, David." I softly hum.

David sighs and lunges for my fisted hand. With his vast fingers, he unfolds my fingers and takes up the ring. David's thumb and pointer finger are on the ring.

"Would you wear it, Susan?"

The genuine optimism in David's blue eyes and his deep rumble of a plea cause my throat to shut. He'd be devastated if I didn't accept. But I never intended to say no. I want to keep the ring for as long as I can. During breakfast, I notice the mansion is quiet. I ask Jessica after breakfast, and everyone has gone their ways. "We celebrate full moon day, but not like humans," she shrugs, making a dish.

I should start shopping for presents five days before the full moon day. But where do I acquire the money? I exit the kitchen to find Neme. Neme is folding clothes in her room.

"I want to shop, but how can I pay?" I ask.

Neme stops, and smiles, "Want to shop?" When I nod, she almost jumps up and down with joy. She snatches my garment and tosses it back into the pile. "Let me show you!"

Neme pulls me along the upstairs corridor to David's office. She opens the door and peeks inside to see who is there.

"All clear," she smiles over her shoulder.

Neme and I enter the office and lock the door. I'm not sure how Neme will get money, but I let her handle it. I stroll up to the tapestry where my whole domain hangs for everyone to see. The settlement is hidden behind the mansion and a forest. I counted as many homes as I could-87.

Maybe I can purchase lanterns and hang them from bushes. Buy life-size candy canes for the lawns. I shiver, wondering how Neme is. Neme takes a card from David's desk drawer. I widen my eyes, understanding she intends to use David's card. "Hey, Neme. I don't think-"

Neme dismisses me with a hand gesture. "Please," she hip-bumps the drawer. "It'll be OK. David and Hunter said it can be utilized in an emergency." Neme moves the card.

"Yeah, we'll see," I sigh, knowing that accepting this card might go anyway.

Neme and I go to the neutral zone, where all the stores, cafés, and restaurants are situated. The lack of wind makes the fairly lengthy hike tolerable.

Neme slipped the "emergency card" In her pocket and told me we should go shopping.

But strolling through the village reminded me that I must immediately encourage and mend my pack. The kids are undoubtedly in school, and the grownups are probably working out.

When we get in the neutral zone, Neme and I go along both sides, admiring the shop and its wares. Most shops are basic, with a limited variety. However, some shops charge exorbitant prices for their goods. Neme wonders whether we should start with a little store. I agree.

As we go inside the jewelry shop, we see a perfume bottle on the shelf.

We stroll about, ignoring employees' assistance because we're searching. Of course, Neme is drawn to the bright gold jewelry. I giggle and examine the rings, but I'm happy with the sapphire David gave me.

I go over and instantly see a pearl necklace. I'm reminded of Jessica and her jewelry. I'm sure she'll enjoy it with her clothes. The price tag gnaws at me.

I startled. He points to the pearl necklace; I shrug.

"Sorry. I merely looked. "

He smiles and crosses over to the other side. He ignores my objections and reaches down to unlock the case. He smiles and nods as he removes the necklace. "Beautiful. This garment would look stunning on you."

I nod and remark, "It's great jewelry. But not for me."

Ah, he says. "I'll offer you a discount, Luna."

"I couldn't let you do it..."

"You must. This necklace will let any buddy know how much you care about them."

I gaze at the pearls. The pearls are lovely. I groan and shrug my shoulders. I leave the jewelry shop with the pearl necklace in a gift bag.

Neme says she got Hunter a perfume set, Jessica an empty notebook to put all her recipes in, and David a bag where he can put his patrolling stuff in it.

I giggle, knowing David will both despise and adore the present. I tell Neme where David should put his present.

"No gift for me?" When I tell Neme what I got today, she pouts, as if I shattered her heart.

I'm not sure what to buy Neme, But we've been here at the pack since my birthday, and destiny has determined we won't leave.

How can I leave such nice, tolerant people I'm growing to love?

I shrug. "Nope, I haven't purchased your gift yet! !"

Neme squints her eyes and scrunches her nose, perhaps wondering what's up with me. I strive to organize my ideas.

"But maybe we'll need to return home to see our parents! Maybe I can spend a few days with my folks.

"Go."

My knees smacked the table, rattling cups. Neme rushes to halt the spills. In a flash, her gray eyes glared at me.

"I need to persuade David to allow me home."

Neme glares at me.

An elaborate whole moon town is built up, and a toy train runs down the table's edge.

"No, Neme. The pack members' decorations." I open the shop door without waiting for my best buddy.

At the rear of the shop, soft laughter can be heard from a concealed speaker playing happy music. It's the most festival atmosphere-like shop I've seen all day.
