Alpha's Human Luna

Chapter 37

My trembling hand grips the knife's blade. In front of me, a scorching pit of fire awaits my hand's slicing. I can almost feel the same pack members', pals', and David's ideas striking my mind.

Just before I cut my hand, my eyes shut. Hunter snatches my knife from me, and I lift my bloodied hand to the fire. Three drops of blood fall into the blazing embers. Then I let go of my hand and look into David's. He encourages me by nodding.

Four objects will be dropped in the same fire where our blood has evaporated.

Turning my head, I see my mate holding something.

Jessica approaches David and me in a lovely dark dress, her fingers clenched. She approaches the fire and throws white specks into the cha. The sound of sizzling flames is all. Fire is consuming a handful of rice as I stare into it. "So our Luna will have an heir in the future."

Hundreds of people anticipate an heir-from me and David-and it makes my cheeks hot. Neme drops her object into the flames, and Jessica gets out of Neme's path.

"Moon Goddess guidance so you make sensible selections for our pack."

So we drop the knife that sliced our hands into the flames, mixing our blood with Hunter's. In times of adversity,

Finally, David removes a little thing from the fire. I detect his thing as a crystal before he drops it. Less than a minute of exposure to a flame will damage the crystal. It keeps beaming at me while flames flicker around it. David gazes at me, and the strange feeling gets colder. I attempt to ignore the cold.

"Strength, just when you need it."

Suddenly, unwanted thoughts pound into my head, making me shut my eyes and massage my temples. We love you, Luna. We waited too long. She's lovely.

The unstoppable bombardment of statements and questions is like thunder bombarding my head.

I felt dizzy, and my head is going to burst open.

No!

I fight to open my eyes. The pack is still there, and David watches me calmly.

When I inquire about what's wrong, he says it's the pack link. A mental connection to any of my pack mates. I have to set up a wall to keep them out.

It will be shortly.

The support from my pack members genuinely helps me.

I close my eyes, hoping for a miracle. I envision a large wall separating us. Their words shook and cracked the wall. But my hands and torso slide forward, pressing my weight into my wall.

Then quiet. Silence. My eyes flicker open as I gasp in shock. The pack members grin, but David's is the finest. I grin back.

"Like a Luna," David says quietly. "Now, let's meet everyone."

I'm resting next to David, looking up at the ceiling. The dumb, arrogant grin that makes me want to straddle his waist and kiss his soft lips makes me not look at David. I suppose I need to get a grip on myself. "I can't believe you and your mom didn't warn me." I turn to face him.

"Susan, you didn't have to know everything. Because you would have overanalyzed the entire thing, and fretted about it before, during, and after." His arm is around my waist as he approaches. "I suppose you're correct."

David chuckles loudly while tightening his grip on my waist. I sigh and look up towards the ceiling.

"You know I'm right, so you pout."

I ignore him and grab for the bedside light. The room becomes dark. Before going to bed, I turn my body and cuddle in bed. I was ignoring the big arm around my waist. You looked great in that outfit,

My eyeballs squeak. "David! Stop!"

How can I be fatigued when a phrase like that resonates in my thoughts, setting my body ablaze?

"So terrible. You know?"

My body is dragged against his toned chest and waist. My hands climb up his shoulders, rubbing the stiff shoulder muscles with strained knots.

"How did you mind-link me?" I touch his shoulders.

Isn't that how text messaging and phone calls work? Then David continues, sensing my nod. "A mind-link is similar. You may transmit anything to anybody.."

What if the wall you create prevents others from presenting you with the same thoughts?

"How did you get past my block?" I gritted my teeth, annoyed but primarily curious.

"You are my Alpha and mate, Susan."

I should've known. Silently, I adjust my body against David's. Lastly, I realize how exhausted I am.

David presented me with the pack after I pictured my block. Faces materialize before me, but I only recall a few of their names. It will take time to learn everyone's names and characteristics. But I'm up for it. In the crook of my neck, David's lips brush against the place where I'll be marked.

"Are you tired?" David was warming my freezing neck.

David jumps when I put my chilly toes beneath his bare calves. My smile elicits a weary chuckle.

"Yes, I am. I would never have suspected a day ago." After my chuckle, I yawn.

"I'll give you a gift in the morning."

I'm too exhausted to reply him. I whisper a yes and shut my eyes. David falls asleep next to me, chuckling.

The fragrant soup wafts into my chamber in the morning. I sigh when the light hits my sensitive eyelids. I grab for David. He's probably awake or sleeping.

I opened my eyes, puzzled, and David wasn't in my bed. Where is he? I assume he went to see Hunter before breakfast and training.

I push the blankets and rise, headed towards the closet. The door is wide open, and David is sulking in front of his clothing.

His blue eyes light up. "I wish you slept longer." He sighs.

David groans and opens the closet dresser's top drawer. I'd forgotten about the dresser and the door behind David's shirts. But David turns around, the drawer left open, with that sapphire ring.
