Alpha's Human Luna

Chapter 28

David looks aside from his bag to focus on me. So I ask him something and he raises a complete black brow.

"Neme told me every shifted mate has a right to take on some tasks of night patrol, and she was crazy for one member of it, but she tole me that when she delivered the application, she was rejected, why?" David merely stares at me and says nothing.

"Neme, like the rest of the pack, is a wolf. So shouldn't she be allowed to join in too?"

David responds by gazing down my body, causing tingles everywhere his blue eyes stare.

"She hasn't mastered everything yet. Then Neme can start training. In my pack, we receive basic schooling and our kind's rules." David glances at me.

I snarl back. "Our wolves. Yours." He's wrong.

David shakes his head and moves toward me. He grips my cheeks and forces me to look up.

"I want you to help her on the patrol task, she has been expecting that."

"I'm sorry," David says softly. "I appreciate your point of view, but beginning patrolling task with Neme would be unjust to the other puppies who are eagerly awaiting their turn. She may start once she knows our laws. Hunter can provide her with study materials."

"But you, can go with me if you want."

I widened my eyes.

"So you treated me specially?"

"Not really, luna must learn about patrolling in advance."He smirks.

Daisy can only remain for a few days. Jessica has grabbed every opportunity to visit her.

I'm making a salad with Jessica in the kitchen. Daisy is still cutting the cherries into slices,

The front door slams as heavy footsteps tread towards.

As the Alpha enters the kitchen, his pack mates surround him, giving him a strong, confident attitude. David moves near me,.

The remainder of the pack gathers around the counter to fill their salad bowls. I fix my own bowl and take a mouthful once everyone has theirs.

David faces me and leans against the counter so close I can feel his body heat. His body builds a barricade so his pack mates and family can't see us. "You're still here for border control?" he asks My brows wrinkle. Why wouldn't I go? I ask him. A scary woods at night." David shrugs before eating his meal. "Is it difficult?" I say quietly.

David's black brows raise in enjoyment. He then approaches me.

I straighten up, slap my salad dish on the marble counter, and extend my hand to shake David's.

"Fine," I say stiffly.

David's gaze shifts from my resolve to my ready hand. He then takes my hand and shakes it hard before kissing the back of it.

Daisy remained for supper but had to leave. We all hugged and said our goodbyes. Hunter drove Daisy to the airport, Jessica sobbing in his arms.

Jessica hushed herself once the Car was gone in the woods. David comforted his mother by squeezing her tightly.

The remainder of the day passed in a haze. After saying his goodbyes, David went up to his office to continue packing.

As the sky darkens, I am increasingly anxious about tonight's patrol. But I feel apprehensive, contemplating what may happen in the woods as David and I patrol.

Then I envision murders with a knife and a bow. My spine shivers.

When David enters, I know he knows I'm worried about the patrol. But I won't say so. I simply need to grow up and stop behaving like a teen.

I run to get my coat.

The night is lovely outside. That I remind myself.

David follows me into the woods, which I've gone through many times before.

My weight snaps a few twigs when I walk on them. When I go across a snow patch, the snow crunches beneath my boot and the melting snow squishes the mud. They stretch up to the starry sky. And not a single animal can be heard. "What do you do for a patrol?" Once we cross the training grounds, I query David.

"I generally patrol and shift. Patrolling involves wandering about and listening for threats. If danger is near enough, I can smell it and alert our members by mind-link, but anybody can do it."

I go around thinking of myself on patrol, looking for danger. Of course, I can't since I'm not half-wolf like everyone else.

We enter another vast forest. One I haven't explored. We never turn or change course.

"Susan, say something."

I smack my lip, unsure how to respond. "After the car accident, I'm here for two months. And this seems to have no end!"

We fall into an uneasy quiet. I squint at David, expecting him to mock me. His lip twitches upward; I gasp and stare up at the sky.

Suddenly I Hear a wolf Growl, which makes my heart hurt and I'm feeling like I'm swirling.

I take a few steps forward, but David growls my name. My body freezes by itself. Are we under siege?

"Don't enter their domain." He snarls and his eyes blaze. I'm lost. Confounded.

"Stone pack territory is only stepped away. You're on their turf now. They know we perform border patrol."

I can't move, so I gaze up at David's irritated face.

"Do you know when they patrol?" I inquire.

David nods. "Only when they border patrol my region."

"Let's end the patrol. "I grasp his hand and respond.

Suddenly I hear someone calling my name, which startle me. The initial rumble is deep and incomprehensible. Then he kept calling my name, stronger and repentant, even like a train rumbling through over my head. I clinch and scream, "No." David turns around.

I scream and shake my head to get the voice away. The voice is so deafening that I fearfully kneel. And we both tumble in the snow. David asks what's wrong. I can't talk; I can't tell my mate that my worst dread is coming true.
