Chapter 26
"Talk to them."
My heart fills with anticipation. "You're serious? Not shitting or tailing me?"
David smirks. "No tail, Susan."
I smirk because he's changing the subject. "So amusing! Come on!" I shine with joy.
David unlocks my bedroom door and motions for me to leave first.
I've never been inside David's bedroom. When David opens the door for me, I am stunned by his room's beauty.
A luxurious marble sits between two decors on one wall.
I go to the bookshelves and touch the ancient and new spines. No titles ring a bell, which makes me sad.
David observes me from his desk chair, waiting for me to speak. I'm speechless for want of words. I'm at a loss when I go to his desk. But David replaces me.
When David nods to his desk, my heart skips a beat. He trusts me not to flee. And I'm not sure I want to. I take up the phone and dial Dad's.
"Who?" My dad's calm voice sounds in my ears, and my eyes concentrate briefly. David leans forward and grips my shoulders. He re-sits and pulls me onto his lap. "Hello?"Dad asks again. "I told you many times that I don't want to buy insurance-"
I shakily clutch the phone and exhale shakily.
"Dad?"He pauses and then gasps.
"Susan? Do you know how much your mom misses you"He is taken aback? Dad then starts shouting mom
"It's susan, come."
"Where are you and Neme?"
My mouth opens, but I'm speechless.
Our return date is yet to be determined.
I grin. "On a foreign trip." I feign.
"It's a mysterious eastern city, quite beautiful. I'm sure you will like it."
My stomach lowers as I lie to my mother. Dad laughs, Mom stutters.
"Foreign trip?" Mom sputters, astonished.
"That's good. Why don't you call me? When are you back?"
I grip the phone, "I just left it somewhere and got a new one. Oh, the bus stars, I need to go. I adore you."
I hang up and slap the phone on David's desk. I quickly straddle David's waist and snarl at him.
David doesn't say anything, but his hands get closer. An ear-piercing scream prevents me from pressing our lips together. My eyes jerk up to David. On the verge of snarling, his blue eyes blaze orange.
I scramble away from him as he screams I know the screaming. Fearful, I rush out of David's bedroom and down the corridor, following the screaming. Neme is screaming and I have to go to her. Nemes extended her hand. I knelt down, grabbed her hand, and started pulling her up.
My arms shook, and Neme looked me in the eye, anticipating my reaction. Neme's hand slid from mine seconds later, and I saw her tumble to the grass.
I continued yelling Neme's name, imploring her to stand, and clinging to the tree trunk for dear life.
I'm panting as I enter Neme's room. My eyes search for her and discover Neme and Hunter on a bed. Hunter stares at me with troubled eyes, and I gaze down at Neme, who is sobbing on the bed, holding the blankets. I rush to the bed and kneel at Neme. "What's up !" My hands brush Neme's damp hair away. Neme'skin is too hot.
Neme groans in agony, accompanied by cloth tearing. Her bed is a wreck!
"It's impossible." He sighs.
David is at the doorway, arms folded, gaze steely. Why does he appear? I beg David to explain this turning.
David sighs and goes to the bed. He raises Neme's hand and squeezes it. "Let's take her out."

David snarls at Hunter. "Stop disregarding your mate's change.."
Neme opens her eyes, seeking anything.
"Susan, it stings." She hushes.
I attempt to soothe her by running my fingers through her hair.
Neme looks terrified at me, and I want to say or do anything to ease her suffering.
David kneels beside me, demanding Neme to look at him. She obeys, her body shaking but her gaze fixed on his.
"Okay, Neme, Hunter, and I will assist you outside. The shifting will hurt, but nothing like this will ever happen again. I swear."
Hunter swoops his mate into his arms as Neme nods. I see him tenderly cradle her. Before asking David what's next, Hunter kisses Neme's cheek.
David is unafraid. He tells her to go outdoors right now to aid Neme. David then faces me. "Find my mum; she'll help."
Hunter dashes out of the room. David starts to follow him, but I grasp his forearm and pull him back, forcing him to look at me.
