Chapter 23
"A new day stars, why don't you go for a walk with me?" Jessica offers.
I nod, wanting to go out for a break.
I put on my warm clothes and trudge through a wood. The wind is not so strong, and it's not too chilly today.
We arrive at a village that is in desperate need of repair and better living circumstances.
As we pass past the houses, I'm filled with melancholy. I can't take my eyes off.
"You know what, this is the place where my mate ends his life."
I widened my eyes, didn't expect Jessica to tell me this.
"Before the Rogues came, the conditions in the dwellings weren't as horrible."
"Was it the Rogues that assassinated your mate?"
Jessica smiles and nods. "It happened in such a short period. At the end of the day, everything seemed to be as usual. I remember falling asleep peacefully before hearing our pack members' cries for aid."
"Initially, I was trying to keep the youngsters hidden when I became aware of my pack's sadness via the bond. The moment we were able to get away from the Rogues, I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. But I was aware of when it was completed."
As we continue to walk, Jessica holds her hands and keeps her gaze forward. "He died."
"Oh, Jessica, I'm sorry."
As I ponder Jessica's comments, both of us are quiet for a moment.
"I have another daughter, She is now enrolled in school. I'm not sure whether Daisy will be able to make it to our house for the luna ceremony."
Jessica and I take a leisurely trip down the hill to the woodland that separates the community from the shops and businesses.
The businesses, as well as the food shops, have remained unchanged.
Jessica motions for me to get a shopping cart that looks similar to hers. There's also a cart! As we wheel our trolleys through the grocery store's automatic doors, a soft air kisses my frozen cheeks.
Jessica selects a little bottle of basal leaves from the spice section and inspects the back of the bottle. She adds it to her shopping basket "Excellent job,"
I remember a story many years ago.
Jessica carefully maneuvers her shopping cart along the grocery aisle, her gaze fixed on the canned goods shelf. I keep up with her shopping cart.
"Humans are naturally curious about everything, including the rivalry between the two packs. Our boulder patrol grew fascinated with keeping an eye out for a Mountain wolf whenever it crossed our property. They required assistance, so the two Alphas, two Betas, and two Lunas banded together to provide a hand."
"Humans?"
Jessica lets out a sneeze. "Humans were sometimes known to poke their noses into things that didn't need it. When humans wandered into our area, they died, letting the rest of the world know that werewolves exist." I'm deafeningly silent.
"Please accept my apologies. That was not my intention at all."
"No," I respond, my voice stuttering. "I see what you're saying."
"Susan, please understand that I do not mean that. In the past, humans have come dangerously close to revealing our species to the outside world. And, if you're found out..." Jessica clenches the grocery cart handle, her knuckles becoming white as she does so. "Things would change and not for the better,"
I nodded.
When Jessica gets home, she becomes obsessed with each and every meal she makes. There will be more visitors in the house than normal, which means that there will be more pack members to meet and interact with. "Don't be afraid of dirt, Susan,"
"Have you had a feeling?"
Jessica takes a few steps away from me, a chuckle in her voice. Jessica wants me to cut the vegetables for her. I agree since I have nothing better to do today.
"Can I give you a hand?"David comes,
"You just arrived at the right time, I got to buy some cheese." Jessica grins and left.
David lets go of my shoulder, and I ignore the chill that comes over me. David's eyes twinkle, irritating me. I suppose it is a bad day.
"During training, I felt your dissatisfaction via our relationship. Mom invited me too."
"I can't get them all out."

"I'm sorry," I mutter, hoping David's wolf senses don't pick up on.
I look at his side profile, which makes my cheeks crimson and my body heated.
David's dark hair seems to be combed or handled often. His blue eyes, framed by thick black lashes, are fixed on the pumpkin, while his slightly crooked nose lowers and pokes out. The cheekbones are something else. Kissing David is a new experience for me. I've pondered how he'd kiss me at night. Mild, severe, forgiving, or soft. I've also questioned whether David is waiting for me to initiate contact. But then I think about it and realize that I'll have to die before David gives me a blasted kiss on the lips.
David is watching me. I huff and sigh.
Soon after, I feel a huge hand crawling up my hip. I stop dabbing and carefully raise my head, anticipating the unexpected. My gray eyes meet David's blue ones, and we lock gazes until a hand squeezes my hip.
I and my body naturally move closer to David. My hands rest on his muscular chest while my head gently tilts to the side.
I close my eyes, ready for this kiss. Just as our lips are ready to meet, someone clears his throat.
I swung around. Hunter looks at David and me with a sly grin. Trying to get away from David and the two other males, my cheeks begin to burn.
David comes up to me and yells after me, but I ignore him and go up to my room. I close and secure the door to my bedroom. I take off my clothes and place them on the bathroom floor to dry. then I grab my belongings and begin to ready for my bath.
The slightly sweet flowers that I have placed in the bathroom assist me to relax. When my naked body is completely submerged in the bubble bath, I notice that my back and neck have begun to relax.
I'm having so much fun with the bubbles. As long as I stay in the tub, the bubbles disappear and the water begins to calm down.
The thumping in my chamber jolts me out of my sleep.
I get out of the shower and wrap myself up in a towel, exhaling, "Shit." I shiver as I tighten my hold on the fabric in front of me. The pounding goes on, and I smirk at myself for continuing it.
Loud grumbles, pounding, and my name being called are all things I can hear from time to time. David. He's not going to look for me like this.
With a sneer on my face, I tell David to take it easy. As I giggle, I realize that David just stomped his foot.
"Susan, the door is locked."
"I was working on something completely unrelated to you," I said.
David grunts, annoyed. I imagine David slamming the door in my face or yelling at me to go. I'm looking forward to his next move.

"So..." He takes a deep breath, cautious. "okay?"
I groan as my shoulders sag in surprise at what I've just heard.
Hunter's interruption of our kiss is unlikely to be remembered by David. Take my towel and tell David I'd just bathed before mentally deciding not to open the door for him, despite his relentless knocking on the door. Right.
As I begin to walk away from my bedroom door, David calls my name. He must have picked up on my footsteps on the wood floor. Dumb wolf is aware that I am ignoring him.
My towel falls on the floor, and I frantically pull up my underwear and hook my bra to keep it from falling. After that, I parade about my room in just my underpants, certain that no one will be accessing my space. When I glance in the bathroom mirror, I see that I haven't put on any makeup in many weeks.
No, I don't remember putting on any lipstick or blush.
The sensation of my thumb running over my lips makes me worry about how David would react to my makeup.
Be astonished, repelled, or aroused. I sigh, knowing that the likelihood of David becoming aroused by his own mate is slim to non-existent.
As soon as I turn off the bathroom light, I walk across the floor of my room. When I get to my room, I unlock the doorknob and open it with a flourish, but when I go through the door, I practically fall out of my skin because I see a sad person inside. Although David is still waiting in the corridor, he is not in any danger.
"Wait, what?" I exclaimed, "You didn't open it," and he claims that I go past him, leaving the bedroom door wide open as a result.
After a few seconds of hushed stomping, David joins me as we go down the hall and up the stairs together.
"Mad." David has said unequivocally that I sigh and ignore him. David grabs my wrist and swings me around so that I am now facing him. David has a strong grasp of the situation. "Please accept my apologies."
My ice-cold glare begins to warm. My body begins to unwind. He is a hormonal mess, a grumpy guy, and at times, completely uneducated. I wish I could simply forgive him for all of that. "David," I mumble to myself.
Saying sorry would not solve all of his problems, and you need to think it well before you behave.".
After dinner, David came to my room and sat beside me. David undressed down to his boxers as I changed into my pajamas.
I sat on David's bed with the lights muted in the room. We were able to sleep together without saying anything.
